Working at the British Heart Foundation is more than a job. It’s being part of a bigger purpose. It’s meeting the challenge to reach your full potential, so we can work together on one united vision. You’re helping us get closer to a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases.

If you’re looking to join an organisation that values and invests in people, then join the British Heart Foundation.

We pride ourselves on giving our people a working environment that is rewarding and supportive, inspiring and challenging. We are one of the UK’s largest and best known charities. Our workforce spans England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

When you join the BHF we want you to feel valued every day. You'll be empowered to develop your knowledge and skills, and encouraged to be ambitious in reaching for the next challenge.

We back the brightest minds and the biggest ambitions, and we want people who are passionate in their belief that together we can help shape a better future.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Heart and circulatory diseases are diseases of inequality. We are committed to funding life saving science for everyone, and we are committed to be an inclusive employer.

At the BHF, equality in the workplace is a part of normal life. Whatever your age, gender, religion, disability status, sexual orientation, ethnicity or family circumstances, you’ll be treated with fairness and respect. We want all our colleagues, volunteers and supporters to feel comfortable and able to bring their true selves to work.

Find out more about what we are doing by reading our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, Igniting Change and our Recruitment commitment to diversity and inclusion.

AFFINITY GROUPS

Our internal EDI group, Kaleidoscope, has representatives from across the business and works closely with colleagues who are involved in our employee network groups. Affinity groups are spaces for colleagues from underrepresented groups to feel connected, included and heard. We have groups for our black colleagues, different religions and faiths, people interested in anti-racism, working parents and guardians, the LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities and those interested in gender equality.

WORKPLACE

The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so our colleagues work in a flexible way to ensure we unlock their best work for our cause. Most office-based roles are blended across office and home-based working.

A lot of work for a volunteer
As a volunteer, you were made to work a basic retail assistant role with added warehouse and admin. The role was alright but you were expected to do a lot in a short amount of time

Overworked, underpaid
Overall retail morale is lower than the company cares to admit - employees are overworked, shops are understaffed, and pay scales are ridiculous. Shop dynamic differ depending on which store you’re in, but there is no accountability for the actions and behaviours of store managers if they are making budget.Building maintenance takes an age, often leaving stores with broken lights and toilets f...

Productive and fun work environment
Great group of ladies to work with. Very understanding and supportive. Great as a 1st job, to gain work experience and also to develop your own personal skills. Looks great on CV and University applications. Break times and tasks are completely set at your own pace, little pressure applied. You can work as often or as little as you like. Very flexible. Highly recommend!
