Where do I start? HR doesn't know what goes on in the factory, but when they do, it gets overlooked. Most management are people who have blagged their way up, and not earned jobs through skills, decision making. If you personally want to succeed, you best be a good talker, because you won't be allowed to otherwise.Supervisors are often nasty people who don't a clue how lines run, or give you the tools to do your job, change overs etc Most team leaders are bullies who think they are gods because they earn £10 more a week than you, and enjoy many breaks. They run their lines into the ground, running them too fast, which often causes breakdowns. Maintenance is a rarity, they just botch job over and over. Or they alter the machines, so much so their warranties get invalid. You then get the blame for the downtime caused. They have a 'Continuous Improvement' team that collect data in the mornings and then basically sit in their little office all day doing literally nothing, apart from when they have to go for their breaks, In which they will walk around the factory showing off on their phones, just because they and management can use them, but workers can't.The majority of workers in the factory are lovely, though many have had enough of what they have to put up with.Weekly pay is good, even though machine operators take home less than night shift packers, who earn the most of all shifts. You will be expected to clean without the necessary equipment. You have to go into work an hour early so you can get a car park space.
Everything apart from that.
Avoid like the plague management haven't got a clue gossiping too faced backstabbing people there go to work in McDonald's or somewhere else very cold in the winter thay don't care about getting new machines in and thay are living in the past
Agency pay is good
Far too long to mention avoid
No long term job security, not very good pay, and they advertise excellent benefits, but you wouldn't see any. Some team leaders incompetent, and agency provide minimal support. They will center your shift saying there isn't enough of work, and at same time they urgently looks for new employees.
bad work and no chances to improve, not best pay, absolutely no security, agency cancelling shifts saying there isnt work
Some team leaders have very poor skills in talking to emoyees. Think refresher training would be an advantage for them. Fast paced and hot with no air con. Considering the amount of handwashing upon entering different areas the hygiene is quite poor overall. I've seen people scoop rubbish up off floor with hands and not wash afterwards. The money is great overall.
Poor treatment by team leaders, Poor communication from office staff if you have a query. Take days to reply by email
I worked for burtons in Edinburgh Twice in my life went back and had a culture shock staff I worked with spoke poor English and were very rude no help from any of the operators felt like an intruder it used to be a great place to work Very sad to see . Not Anymore
All staff other than the manager and one team leader were agency. So all line leaders were in the knowledge there job was as safe as the operatives even after 5/6 years of loyalty as I witnessed two people who had served this time be sacked over a menial dispute. Also they bare no responsibility for vulnerable staff members during the pandemic.
3 breaks/8hr shift. Usually 15 minutes so eat your food fast.
Poor communication, unrealistic targets (regarding safety of staff) etc.
Worked here for 20 years in many positions, pay and conditions have eroded over the years so now paid poor in comparison to similair jobs.Blame culture and blatant nepotism for full time workers hoping to advance to contend with, mind numbing repitive work for agency staff, terrible management ,avoid if you can.....
Poorly management!!!! I never seen s*it managers like at Burton’s.No education and experience in biscuits industry. They can’t manage people. If u aren’t from Burton’s friends or family(clique),your job is on the packing floor like a human-robo or zombie 🧟♂️.They are treating people very bad...If you aren’t put “ finger into manager a*se u are enemy. Absolutely PRISON CAMPUS..There are a lot of sad and backstabber people.Avoid this place!!
i was in charge of ordering laundry and lockers for the whole factory, all employees including ordering locker keys, cleaning equipment, sending invoices to companies to pay for stock and clothing for all the seven hundred and fifty plus staff. i would order safety equipment including shoes for all employees. i also worked in the shop supplying staff with stock for their own consumption.
overall the job was ok if you are used to fast paced production line work. plenty of over time at busy periods of the year, management were fair and pleasant, wages were average for this type of work.
Money is ok and there is plenty of overtime and opportunity to work your way up, but there is a deep bulling culture that has evolved over the last 10 years which has made it an unpleasant place to work for anyone who is not staff. If you are thick skinned you can almost enjoy it as good friendships can be made there but that is small consolation if your not the type of person who likes being told what to do.
