Machine op - Cwmbran burtons

Awful place to work, shift operations “managers” and line “leaders” don’t give you any training then expect you to run a machine that you’ve never seen in your life. they expect the current machine ops to train you off their own back which will never happen. Senior management and HR really have no idea how bad it is on the factory floor. No help or support!! Avoid unless you want to be constantly in a bad mood in and out of work

Warehouse / Stores

Ex employee worked in Warehouse last 10 years. Management good but operators not wellcoming. Some operators tried tactics to try to make my work life uncomfortable. Would not recommend.

fast paced , stressful at times

decent place if you are okay with standing in the same spot the whole day, monotomous work , pay is fair enough .the people you work with are really nice but management can be a pain

Pros

biscuit deals

Cons

too much time standing up

Good people. Bad management

Generally nice people. Made a lot of friends in the short time being there. Team leaders need to listen to their team a lot more instead of thinking they know best cause of their position, running lines top speed while having trainees on the line which ultimately causes stress. The “counselling” you get after your first/second instance is a joke. It’s not “counselling” it’s a manager asking “are you okay?” “Anything we can do to help?” I was expecting an experienced counsellor so when I realised that was the counselling session I laughed. Overall I can’t slate the place as I did enjoy working there but there are a lot to improve on

Ok. But can be better

Job is ok can be boring and repetitive at times but days do fly by. Weekly pay is a bonus and is overtime if you want to work it (however it’s slowly being removed throughout the factory)Lots of shift patterns to suit but only problem for me was that except for senior management no one really cares about the job workplace targets etc. but however people are always willing to help each other if stuck etc

Terrible

Have mental health staff on site who bassicly don't care and tell you to p***off and man up was also told there's no room for progression unless your in a click with older staff.

Unfriendly environment

If you want a job at Burtons Biscuits & are English my only advice is don't work the nightshift as nearly all staff including supervisors are foreign & don't speak great English if any! You could be stood packing alnight with a group of people who will just ignore you & talk in there language very frustrating & nothings properly explained to you & if something goes wrong you've no idea what it is as all speaking in a foreign language so you don't learn anything. After a week on the job not once have any of the supervisors asked how I'm getting on am I enjoying it etc just alot of rude people you can't understand. I'd avoid to be honest I went & got another job quickly where they all speak English & don't ignore you.

Boring

Boring work. No one spoke English. Very depressing. Stood still for hours. Could have a break but was unpaid. Everything wrong height so hurts your back leaning over all day

Avoid

Not a nice working environment.English should be the only language allowed on the line. You could be in a Team and they're all talking Polish and your on your own not having a clue what's going on.It actually feels like your working in another country it can be that bad on occasions.Only place I've worked where this is allowed.I left due to that reason.

Pros

Hours, pay

Cons

Work culture, bad management. Favouritism.

Great, stressful but meet some good people who make the job fly by. By far one of the best jobs I’ve had management need a reality check but other wise great

In life time of working ,worst Company i have ever come across

Started Dec 2021 , They cheat to get you in the door, hygiene and health and safety are the poorest I have ever came across, cross contamination is highly likely, will never buy there products ever again, very fast pace constantly and no give ... Most of the management , supervisors and team leaders lack people skills, shouting and on you case if not keeping pace , Agencies should be looking into this this place is not fit for purpose , so should their buyers.. lasted 4 days employed their totally a disgraceful practice

Pros

Will suit unhygienic and non health and safety conscious people

Cons

Not a friendly environment or stress free

Horrible Management and Way Too Hot!

Was told I'd be getting a full time position however they cancel shifts randomly by sending you a text an hour before. You are expected to do way more than what the money is worth and little benefits. The team leaders are horrible people just looking for a power trip and a too many people think they have a say in what goes on. The people in charge also have little experience on the production line and are constantly shouting at you (which makes it even harder to hear what they're saying). The factory is way too hot with no air con and rarely a fan in sight, also have been refused water at times which constantly causes me to feel faint and dizzy. The rest of the staff are usually nice but it's obvious they are fed up with how they're are treated. The work is strenuous, mind numbing and often leaving with various aches and pains. You get penalised for the silliest of things like taking your hard hat off before your overalls. The turn over here is insane and everyday you're asked to do overtime and 12 hour days. Avoid this place like the plague.

Pros

Weekends off

Cons

Everything

Official response from Burtons Biscuits

7 September 2021
Hi, thank you for leaving a review. We do have a great HR team onsite, so my recommendation would be raise anything with them directly and we as we are always looking at ways to improve our working environment. If you were employed with us directly, we would never cancel shifts, so it sounds like you worked via an agency. This agency is designed to provide a temporary workforce to us, when we have absences at short notice. My advice would be to feedback to the agency you worked for directly on how they handle the communication. If you were looking for a permanent role we have plenty of vacancies on our website should you have wished to be employed by Burtons Biscuits directly. Health & Safety is something we are very strict on as worker safety is always and will always be number 1 on our list. While removing for hat first might seem minor, it is only there to protect yourself from serious harm. Thanks, Ben Beveridge - Group Recruitment & Talent Manager

Great Place To Work

Over all the workers are friendly and inviting, it's like one big family.Lots of work to earn extra money cleaning.Different biscuit lines easier than others.Sometimes it gets boring but if things go wrong can get very stressful.I worked there for 8 months and enjoyed every bit.

Pros

Can buy cheap biscuits

Cons

Getting used to different shift pattern

Who doesn't love Biscuits

I've worked at Burtons for 3 years and during the this time the business has acquired two new bakery brands and have grown in both size, volume and profit over the last 4 years. The business is fast paced, but we are continuously winning and growing and it is a really exciting journey to be part of. We are always looking at news ways to be more efficient and their is no such thing as a bad idea working here. If you ask for help people are always willing to help, there is plenty of career progression and training for those who want it, just speak to your manager or ask one of our great HR teams. You'll learn a lot if you join the Burtons Biscuits family and if you want it, you can have a job for life working for us.

Pros

Great people, lots to learn, a leading, growing and ambitious business

Cons

Not quite a con, but the business is fast paced, we are a growing business so sometimes it feel super fast, if you like to be given lots of responsibility and kept busy this is a place you will love working
