In 1936, Billy Butlin changed the face of British holidays.

His aim was to make the British seaside break accessible to all. It started on a short visit to Barry Island where Billy felt sorry for families staying in drab guest houses with nothing much to do. He wanted to create a “place of colour and happiness” where quality activities and entertainment would be provided so that families could really enjoy their time together.

So in 1936, Billy bought a plot of land in Skegness (where the resort is to this day) and set about making this dream come true.

Billy not only pioneered a whole new way for British families to enjoy a seaside break, he was also a pioneer in the world of service. He wanted families to feel really looked after and cared for while they were away, and so he built a team that set the standard for providing brilliant service to his guests. You might know them as Redcoats.

Fun place to work if you can think fast on your feet
I loved working on reception and meeting all the guests, very difficult job as you have to remain calm at all times even if people are screaming at you

Worst job I have worked at ever.
The summary says it all! This job sucked as a bartender I was working 6 days on with 1 day off. Of which could leave you with 12 days in a row. Some days out of the 12 you would only be required for 2 hours. Don’t get me started on shift changes and even if you look at the rota your shift would be 19:00 - 23:30. You would still be told to leave at 21:30 because you were not required there. In add...

Bad money
Restaurants are very busy and short staffed, not paid contracted hours as managers clock you out the minute u stop working, good one to ones and opportunities to learn different areas

It's okay
Hard work and long hours, but you work in a good team. You will be on your feet all day for minimum wage. If you are a student this is ideal for you.

Fun work place
If you're into great training, life long friends and having a great time in and out of work I would definitely think about doing a season or two here

I was asked: Why I wanted to work for Butlins? What is my proudest achievement? How have I used previous experience to help in a current situation? What was my most difficult challenge to over come and how did I do it? Why this particular job role? Interview was only 10 mins but very friendly people and they want someone who knows basics about customer service and Butlins itself.
