Really enjoyed my time with the Cab Office. Exposed to new technology, stayed for over 3 years as a contractor. Sadly IR35 ruined it for many making it financially difficult to remain.

Working with the biggest challenges

At the Cabinet Office you get to see the whole of government working and collaborate across department to improve outcomes for everyday citizens across the UK, on the most important issues of the day. Your work forms part of the headlines you see every day.Budgets are tight and perks are good but economical as you’d imagine for public sector.

Energetic and competitive

The unit I worked in was the Prime Minister's Implementation Unit, this was very competitive and a fast paced unit. Most people don't stay for longer than 2 years due to the level of intensity and because they used the unit as a stepping stone for higher positions in other departments.

Interesting and varied work

Good career progression, good benefits, average CS pay. Flexible working, high turnover of staff. Steep and quick learning curve and those can pivot on to current priorities will fit well.

Great way to advance career

Great place to work, training available to advance in your career. The work culture is welcoming. Easy to move around with jobs. Located centrally. Sometimes your DGs are not accomodating.

Rapid pace, challenging and diverse environment.

Very interesting environment with lots of challenge. Complex Transactions has been created to advise other government departments and therefore operates on a similar basis to the big 4 Consultancies.

Cabinet office

This was an excellent establishment to work for, and very exciting. Fast paced. Good team players. I really can’t say much more due to the location of this establishment.

Interesting and varied workplace

Cabinet Office is an interesting place to work with opportunities far and wide in varied aspects of Govt work. Good benefits but salary could be increased to reflect cost of living in London.

Productive and youthful workplace

Lacked work to give me due to the time of year I was doing a placement (summer). Management were really nice and friendly, they have a flexible working policy too which is really helpful.

Focused on VFM to the Public Purse

A really great place to work. Very keen to provide leadership & development training, wellbeing is important as well as improving the BHD scores through the annual Peoples Survey.

Could do with improving.

could not imagine how poorly organised the place was. Lots of politics and poor effiency.

Nice people to work with.

Poor effiency

Awful experience

- Insufficient support for instances of bullying and harassment. Especially if the person concerned is your Line Manager. - Full of favourtism. Leaders promote who they want. - Constant changes to the structure of Unit. Changes swept under the carpet when they don't work out. - High turnover - have seen many people leave after a few months - Lack of diversity and few BAME staff. - Very hierarchical. - Poor IT systems. - Deadwood senior civil servants who think they are experts in everything because of a long stint in the civil service. - Waste of public money.

Centre of government - looks good on CV

Far too many - see description!

Backward and insular

Great place if you had patronage, terrible for diversity. The BAME ceiling was very low and often condoned by underhanded sabotage. Bullying mindset firmly entrenched.

Kudos of working at centre of government

Poor working practices and a prime example of wasting public money through busy-ness

Great oppertunities

Administrative based role, consisting of answering calls and responding to emails whilst ensuring that all admin duties and processing has been kept up to date. Fun place to work with many different people from all walks of life and plenty of opportunities to progress and develop yourself.
