Not the worst, not great either, high staff turnover.

Let me be honest this isn't a terrible place to work nor is it a good place, if you are office based you will have a better time than the factory workers of which I do feel sorry for. like with all jobs you have your good and your bad staff/management etc. Calders offers next to no career personal development or sets aside no budget for this, we were enrolled on a free training course where Calders declined to pay the £15 per person for the certificate which shows their attitude towards staff training/development.The management have zero trust for office staff and believe nobody will do any work unless watched, at the start of the pandemic they tried their hardest to keep office staff in the office, the statement from HR was "my husband doesn't do any work when he works from home so none of you will" As I say its not a great place but it did offer some good CV experience and the was some good people (Design team, Head of Projects etc). Oh don't forget the free parking....on a industrial estate....that all offer free parking....its one of the job perks that will be dangled in front of you at interview stage....

Pros

Free parking, Half day friday.

Cons

Very poorly managed higher up, expect more hours than you are contracted.

Hazardous dangerous environments

Could be a great place to work but it isn't. The management are mostly incompetent orders rarely leave on time and come back regularly because they are inadequately produced.Staff training and progression is rare unless your a brown nose like the supervisor is over in c2

Pros

Short working week

Cons

Too many to list

Badly managed with a poor attitude to health and safety

The guys on the shop floor are generally a hard working bunch of guys, but they are lead by poor management with no direction, with a total disregard to health and safety.

Pros

The 12 hour shift pattern is good

Cons

Lack of spare parts and information, no technical leadership

Old Equipment, Management Self Serving, Lads Great

Air quality poor with casting producing lead fumes in a factory with no factory extraction. Not really any kind of safety culture - new MD was starting to bring one in but was sacked probably for caring. Management either scared for their jobs due to incompetance or don't care enough to be bothered. Us and Them mentality is a bit ridiculous in this day and age. Good bunch of guys - adversity does that. Money poor for the conditions and potential future health issues, should probably get hazard pay. Unsure but it looks like the company are currently using the medical and disciplinary systems as a cheap back door redundancy program, one guy was given the bullet for having his eyes closed while standing up even after telling his manager he didn't feel well earlier. Could be a great place to work but isn't.

Lead works. Poor management, great floor staff

Hot, filthy, dangerous, poisonous dirty place to work (Lead works) Some new machines but a lot of old unreliable machinery too. Floor staff are all fantastic but management and health and safety are poor and always have been. Poor communication from upstairs and very inefficient in planning jobs. Worked there for many years (4 day week) but looking for change now. No future prospects and career advancement very hard unless you kiss ........

Pros

4 day week

Cons

Hot as in summer, freezing in winter with an air fed mask all day.

Interesting career move

Never worked with Lead and Timber at the same time but I found it really interesting and rewarding. Machining Lead lined door frames and doors to specific sizes with extreme accuracy.Early start (7am) but a 4:30pm finish and only a 4 day week. Good workforce , made to feel welcome by everyone.

Pros

3 or 4 day working week depending on shift pattern

Cons

6am or 6pm start depending on shift pattern

Great place to work, hard work but great people to work with.

From the first moment the Management and co-workers made you feel at home, even though Calders is quite a large company everyone is more than willing to help you settle in. The work was sometimes quite demanding but also very varied and all though most of the time really busy, the days just went so quick. The most enjoyable part of the job without doubt was and is the work mates and the Management team.

Pros

Good breaks and good shifts.

Cons

Really cannot think of any.

Busy and productive workplace

My day varies every day which is why I enjoy it so much.I get on with everyone from management to employees. I have learned to be more assertive in this position as I have gained a lot more responsibility in this role.

Pros

variety

Cons
