First step on the ladder to better opportunities

Indeed featured review

I worked for calor over 2 winter seasons , all they ask is you follow the procedures correctly. Earnings are great when it’s cold and average in the summer. You’re not guaranteed full time work because the job is reliant on the weather , hot weather = very quiet and obviously colder weather = extremely busy. What I do know is due to working with fuel they have 2 way cameras in the cab and you cannot use your own phone whilst driving and if the office call you on cab phone you will need to park up before answering or calling back, so can be a very isolated job.

Pros

Good wages

Cons

Very isolated job

Great

Its very hard work, but the pay is good.Treat you well and the management are friendly and supportive.Training is very good and plentiful. They ask if you want to work overtime and no pressure.Only gripe I have is the vehicles. You switch around alot. Would be great to have your own.

Pros

Cafe on site, free tea and coffee also PPE Is top notch and free.

Cons

Hard work you need to rest at weekends.

Marmite job, physically extremely demanding

A very demanding job physically which I enjoy, although eventually your body pays the price. Can be a 1 off load all hand balled, to 15/20 drops of various amounts of cylinders to mix of industry/stockist/domestic customers. The cylinders vary in weight from 10kg up to 85/95kg.You are expected to risk assess delivery site and refuse delivery if unsafe although evidence is expected.Big part of job is installing cylinders to domestic customers which can be difficult, and then there is the traveling community and there dogs.Wagons are all very well maintained and well equipped for job( full length side lift and tail lift) although generally Daf.Class 2 nowadays are generally swb so expect to go any where.Good t&c’s and pay is on the good side for class 2. Company is very big on h&s and in cab cameras. Biggest gripe is unpaid breaks, if you can manage it physically it’s a good but demanding job. Recently relocated from Blackpool to Preston and no one left. In general lads all help each other out, and a genarally happy place even in office

Pros

Overtime at time and half and plenty of it. Not just driving job

Cons

Demanding job physically and allways outside in weather

Stuck

Work for them for along time as not much work where I live so was stuck there, very stressful company, informing you that always someone willing to take your job, just a number, not well organised, unappreciated.

Overall a well run, supportive company to drive for and good rate of pay. No long term prospects for me offered though.

Good place to work from a drivers point of view. Mechanics and workshop on site for quick defects resolve. Staff helpful and friendly. Only criticism is that the overall site manager was not very personable.

The jobs good bad management otherwise the job itself fantastic ,training is great ,injoy working there for the 10 years that I did, the job it self really good ,although before this I was a milk tanker driver which I loved too, most of the time you are left to your own devices.

Worst job I’ve had

Essentially carrying as many explosive cylinders as you can and deliver them to a sometimes impossible time table . WHAT COULD GO WRONG ? Boss never spoke up for us once .

Pros

Ok hours

Workload

Extremely professional

Calor gas is an extremely professional working environment, that demands high standards in all applications. The company provide full training in all applications of LPG delivery, to a very high standard.

Pros

Extremely competitive rates of pay.

Cons

The job itself is temporary.

Why?

It is my own personal opinion and it will remain that way. I would suggest that you plant somebody in thi company to gain information for you. Sadly, this company no longer exists. Very sad.

Pros

Got paid

Cons

Went bust

Good place to work

A typical day would be, start work at 6am, check the Vehicle over to make sure it is roadworthy and full with fuel, water, screen wash and oil, also make sure my load is secure and strapped down. The other drivers I work with are very helpful and we all help each other out when needed. I have learnt more about the areas I cover and also a lot better with my tachograph rules. Most enjoyable part of the job is meeting new people and being out delivering and going to new places

Pros

out on the road

Good work environment

Immingham depot has a good management team and, unlike general haulage, are not constantly chasing you up. Good set of lads that work there. Only downside is it is seasonal and through an agency, but pay rate is pretty good.
