Not disability friendly

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
My role was office based but my disability forced me to work from home but the management refused to accommodate this and I ended up having to leave after 5 months. Very disappointed as whole service is supporting disabilities but not their staff

Pros

Dedicated team

Cons

Lack of understanding and support

Good place to work

Working with the kids were great, you got to go and support them in schools, work life balance was good too, you could easily swap a shift with other staff memeber if you needed too.

Pros

Helping the children

Money money money

Been at the school a number of years. Watched as they have cut staff by around 25%, increased fees for children attending yet refuse to increase staff pay. The school will be running on agency staff soon which will cost them in the long run. Profits over staff and student welfare. Real shame as used to be good

Bad place to work for

Appalling short staffed expect you to do the full work load and kids running away from the school and no one cares for the pupils.the head teacher lies to parents as I’ve witnessed and number of times

Not a good company. Not child focused Not much support from higher management. A very stressful environment.

Did love my job. But finding it more money oriented than children focused. This was not what I signed up for. Time spent more on paperwork and ticking boxes rather than spending time with the young people.

Pros

Sometimes

Cons

Sometimes not able to finish shifts on time due to staffing shortage

Pro's & Con's of working here

The company is always short staffed and the turnover of staff is ridiculous. They struggle to pay you correctly and the support you receive is minimum. The job itself is hard, you have to be very resilient and able to manage tough, upsetting work. Very mentally draining. Enjoyable parts too, but rarely

Okay

Overworked, pay is never right. Some mangers will support you others higher up don't care. Investigations are given out like smarties . Great to see the young children progress.

Great team, fantastic location and experienced and supportive staff

A school where the staff care about what they do and work hard to ensure that students receive a good to outstanding education. Feel proud to call myself part of the Southlands Teams. Every day is different and education staff are well supported and show excellent team work.

Some days they can be a barrel of laughs and make your whole day. Disorderly

Disorganised work overtime always staffing issues but great to see kids develop but constantly being bombarded with paperwork and under pressure management isn’t effective

Cambian

It is a rewarding job regardless if you work directly with the young people or not. Seeing them progress is amazing. Management overall are good.

Rewarding job

I feel the job is very rewarding and i feel very supported in my role, training is amazing. I feel that sometimes the job does take over your life but i am there for the children

Unfriendly and uncaring

Not a home you want to work in as they do not invest in the children on the home Lots of issues and no staff to support each other not a good place at all

Worst place to work

Management are beyond shocking. Some managers don’t even hold qualifications to manage a home which is concerning. Rates of pay are terrible and just a depressing all round place to work.

Cons

No support and left to deal with situations alone but slated if anything goes wrong

Overworked, underpaid - but normal for industry.

Friendly staff however support is not always there, breaks non existent unless you hit breaking point, training needs to be more specific to suit current clientele to be able to support appropriately and safely. Almost like a GP surgery, there's a receptionist - management blocking you and giving incorrect information to stop you from going to more senior management. Staff are not treated fairly, clear favouritism which results in unfair workloads. Optimism as well as realism and friendliness of less senior staff keep the place afloat. Senior management has made many staff struggle with work/life balance resulting in them being unhappy, consequently a lot of staff amazingly supportive staff have felt no option but to leave. High turn over of staff. Despite this, in relation to other positions I've held and stories heard, this is average in the care sector, overworked and underpaid.

Awful and dangerous

Quite possibly the most unprofessional and damaging place you could ever work. Management professionalism is non existent. Some extremely ridiculous characters within this organisation and how some people passed any kind of interview is beyond me especially managers

A great place to work. Whilst sometimes extremely busy, the team around me keeps us going.Times can be tough but we do what we do with the Children & young people best interests at the forefront of what we do

Ok

It’s an ok place to work, not the best, depends on the team you have and the management at the home. Up and down moments when working here, sometimes case of one rule for one and one for another.

Company works …

But my god do the wheels turn slowly - payroll and HR are understaffed as-well as the rest of the region, however you will always be paid what you’re owed …. Eventually- some mangers have been in post for a long time and could probably do with moving on or giving up the game

Don’t bother! Go elsewhere with a better ethos.

This company have so much to answer for. They suspended people willingly with little to no support during that time frame. They shove the young people around from pillar to post, no security for them or us as workers. The young people and carers are not valued, everyone’s a pay check. During my time we had young people staying for too long, kids in wrong placements, understaffed homes but still filling the beds all because they aren’t meeting budgets. £5-10k per kid per week is how it’s seen in a lot of homes.Had two suicide attempts and a huge decline in my mental wellbeing dealing with this company. They leave people high and dry take away livelihoods, people’s spirit. You’re expected to stay on shift even if it’s your 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th day in a row, whilst still expecting to drive and give the best 24 hour care, you then get threatened with disciplinary if you choose to go home after a week on a shift. Most of the management have the mindset “I’m the manager, I won’t be doing that’ could even include things like making their own food or cleaning their own areas they’ve been festering in all day. Fortunately for us we can leave, the young people are the ones missing out and suffering, some amazing personalities missing out on basics due to lack of care, management skills and offsted ratings.

Pros

The young people and carers.

Cons

Anyone with a management title.
