Service Manager let’s the company down
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Dunfermline, Fife - 8 September 2023
I worked at Capability Scotland for a number of years and always enjoyed my job, the customers were well cared for and there was a fantastic staff team. A new service manager arrived 3 years ago and since then lots of great staff have left and the customers don’t appear to receive the same level of care and support. The company is in contract with a local agency and this tends to be where all the funding goes. Not that the agency staff aren’t good, most of them are but they are not familiar with the customers or their routines. Permanent staff are often on with one agency staff member and are expected to do the work of 3 people. Because of the lack of staff, customers sometimes go for a few days without being able to get out the house. The service manager is extremely rude and has been known to swear at staff. If staff have any concerns then the manager is definitely not approachable and you feel as if you’ve nowhere to turn for support. I loved my job and enjoyed supporting the customers, will miss them greatly but had to leave for my own mental health. The manic shifts and shift patterns do not allow for a harmonious home life. In saying that, I had great training throughout my time in the role and achieved an SVQ. I just hope that HR start to listen to staff in regards to complaints about the service manager and that the company can hire some decent staff who will ensure the care and support of the customers.
Pros
Training and supporting customers
Cons
Shift patterns and unapproachable manager

Wtf I have no life
Support Worker/Carer (Current Employee) - Perth City Centre, Perth and Kinross - 11 July 2023
I love my job but hate my job If you love to work for rubbish management and people who always think they know better then yes it’s the place to work for you The staff is run down And we are asked to do everything for no recognition on little pay But the look on the customers faces makes your day the best ! Seeing family’s come in and appreciate what you do for their loved ones makes it all okay You can even forget the 360 horrible days for those 5 great days I have to agree the training and SVQ Qualifications are definitely a pro but if you ever want a holiday put them in a year in advance as you will might not get them Well come join in the fun cos no days are the same

Not a nice place to work, would not advise
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Perth - 28 February 2023
Worked here for a while and although I loved the people I cared for I found a high percentage of staff (Rosie bank/tummel) to be unfriendly/unwelcoming and could not care less, the basics got done nothing more nothing less and all accepted as normal. Not a nice place to work and certainly wouldn’t recommend, very sad as I feel the customers deserve far more.

Jobs at Capability Scotland
Not great
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Renfrewshire - 25 January 2023
The work itself is great, however, some staff lack serious training and skills required to do the role and management seem hard to approach. Alotnof workplace bullying and management won't take this seriously

Great training, can be rewarding
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Elderslie - 1 January 2023
Training courses for the job were great. Staff friendly and helpful. Customers are well looked after and the job is all person centred care. The job can be hard work but rewarding when you have a good working relationship with customers and their families. The shift pattern however is the hardest part of the job. Often finishing work at 10pm, home at 11pm, back up at 5:30am for your early morning shift. It really took a toll healthwise and your days off are spent sleeping before doing it all over again
Pros
Good training, friendly staff. Room for promotion
Cons
Poor shift pattern, poor work life balance

A workplace which is running down
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 4 November 2022
Capability Scotland has changed into a place where staff became unimportant and turned into the number. I can only guess that problems to find new employees and financial issues caused most of the problems. There are amazing staff members there but not appreciated enough for their hard work. Seniors are approachable and easy to speak to however the overall pressure and stress makes them often unavailable for staff.
Pros
Approachable seniors, amazing staff members
Cons
Staff members treated as the number not individuals, low pay.

Ok
Team Leader (Former Employee) - South Lanarkshire - 20 September 2022
Good place to work could be stressful when short staffed but that’s across the industry at the moment. Staff and clients make it worthwhile and jobs is as hard as you make it
Pros
Staff and clients
Cons
Short staffed

The place that could be...
Practitioner (Former Employee) - Perth - 22 August 2022
I have fond memories of my time at Upper Springlands. Residents are wonderful, and the potential for the place is enormous, though unfortunately - it gets completely wasted. Pay is some of the lowest, especially for the staff registered as practicioners responsible for both medication and assessments. Very clique on various levels. The bright side comes when dealing with service users and long-term staff. Wonderful place for those seeking to get first steps into healthcare, but the wages speaks for itself - hight staff turnover and frequent shortages are dreadful.
Pros
Residents
Cons
Wages

Perfect
Team Leader (Current Employee) - Renfrewshire - 17 June 2022
I love the job I have. No day is the same, some days can be stressful and as with all care jobs some days can be sad. The feeling that I get knowing I’m making a difference every day is all the job satisfaction I need.

Management let down the company
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Dunfermline - 31 May 2022
The actual job in itself is fantastic but management lets this company down massively. I was often made to feel not good enough by management by their patronising tone and when having a bad time with my mental health was punished instead of being supported. Shift patterns leave you with little or no personal time and it is impossible to get annual leave. Never a full team of staff so doing the work of 3 people. Avoid.

Very low pay for what you are expected to do
Annaty (Current Employee) - Perth and Kinross - 26 May 2022
Very stressful place to work and little thanks for it ,customers are lovely but Working on the floor can be very childish at times. and the wages are unacceptable especially when you have big bosses with massive wage packets. The amount of work you have to do on a daily basis is ridiculous for the pay. The company should be embarrassed.
Pros
Lovely customers
Cons
Unacceptable wages
