My Experience!

Featured review

Capita selected this as a representative review
My journey with capita started as a face to face assessor, coming from a stressful clinical role I wanted something more manageable in terms of work life balance, and the added bonus of weekends off! Like every job, it takes a little while to get used to, and of course it can be stressful, but for me I felt the training and support we received helped in terms of settling in and gaining confidence, as it was a massive job change for me! Now 3+ years down the line, I am working within a different role which I really enjoy, what I will say is there are lots of job opportunities within Capita, so its a great starting point if you have set goals in mind! I enjoy working within a team, the balance of working from home and the flexibility too! The Managers have been really supportive and understanding, more so with the challenges faced working from home full time due to COVID - if you need a change, I would recommend - it worked for me! :)

Pros

weekends and bank holidays off!!

Cons

for me, a complete change in terms of previous job - so it does take a little while to get used to!

Steady employment

A good to place to work to learn new skills and build your portfolio. Great people and okay leadership. Higher up, it feels like the higher picture isn’t seen and if it is, there’s no investment.

Nice place to workPay on timeFriendly environment

It is a nice place to start to work on Finance and other roles, the company is fair. They pay on time and the colleagues are helpful and friendly. Typical Monday to Friday job.

Pros

Possibility of hybrid work in the future.

Cons

You don't have too much Overtime, just in some occasions.

Stressful and undervalued

Awful company to work for. Add more and more tasks to roles with no recompense, under the guise of and 'any other business', until your role becomes 2 roles into one. Managers are full of corporate spiel and say all the right things but actioning them is a completely different story. They all your opinion but never actually listen, mashing decisions on output that they have no experience in.

Pros

None

Cons

Over worked and under paid

Good luck figuring out any clear information from anybody

Commission structure is ridiculous considering how much money you make the company (o2) per day. You also get docked an enormous amount if you don’t offer unlimited data packages, accessories and additional lines to every customer, including elderly people who don’t use even 1gb of data, live alone and have called to save money on their bill, since they’re living off a pension. You work past your scheduled hours and don’t get paid for it unless you request it. Nobody communicates properly and guidelines are misunderstood from team to team, with no written documentation for clarification. Pay is slightly above minimum wage but they expect more than slightly above minimum effort. Pay people based on the amount of energy you would like them to expend at work and maybe the employee turnover wouldn’t be off the charts.

Soul destroying

I did 14 years I did actually enjoy the job when it was ventura but when capita took over it went downhill fast. No matter what you did it was never good enough. If you hit your target it was never enough cos they wanted more. It absolutely broke my mental health also getting shouted at most of the day from customers is devastating when all you want to do it help.

Highly stressful unrealistic targets

The DA role requires much more time than is allocated. To achieve targets you need to work very long hours and weekends and even then it is a struggle. Very few people manage to do the job within normal working hours and there is a very high turnover

Only worth it if you really need work.

I worked here for a few years, any progression attempts were always backpedaled, only really safe if you stay on the phone. You are treated like a number rather than a person & it does feel like they will employ anyone.

Good place to start

Really good company to start with, gain experience and then move on. Not a lot of opportunities to advance but you can pick up a lot of skills and use them elsewhere. Good team mates and management is decent

Avoid avoid avoid

At the begining of the job, during the 6 month probation period, the training is good and it appears to be a great job, providing a fab work/life balance. The clinical trainers are all lovely and very positive about the role in general and make it sound easy and very possible to pass probation. However, 3 months in the training is over and you are in the deep end trying to actually do the job with (non clinical) managers constantly breathing unrealistic targets down your neck, piling on the pressure and criticising if you aren't reaching expectations and being told you are expected to reach 100% targets ongoing, IF YOU PASS PROBATION in order to stay in employment with them (which is very stressful to say the least). Writing 2-3 lengthy reports, doing numerous initial reviews, managing a never ending que of cases, making numerous chaser calls and requesting evidence daily feels like an endless and impossible task. Working OVER FULL TIME HOURS for a PART TIME WAGE means that the salary averages at around minimum wage and is also a must if you are to achieve anywhere near expected targets. The physical and mental health toll that this job takes on you is simply not worth it! Avoid

Pros

Think twice before applying

The training is paid and quite enjoyable, the trainer's really make you feel like it's going to be easy, but fast forward 3 months when you start taking 3 calls and writing 3 x 5000+ word reports per day, all of which are marked, each marker having a different opinion on what's right or wrong that's when you realise it's not easy. You are pushed to meet submission targets that are very unrealistic, your managers who ussually don't have any clinical experience expect you have all your work submitted within 24 hours. It 34k salary doesn't apply until you get approved and you are doing 60+ hours per week so really minimum wage for the hours you put in. You do get lots of support from the wider team, but I still found it all very subjective to your manager or who marked your reports to how well you progressed. Very glad to have quit this job, now doing agency nursing 30hrs per week for double the pay and loving it!

Morale was low by the time I left

I felt that most people stayed in the job because of the fear of the unknown, the pay wasn't great but it was ok as I still had a job. However, by the time Capita took over our work, we lost many of the benefits we'd had when SERCO were in charge anyone who worked there and still do, know what I am talking about.

Good stepping stone

The job could be amazing but many factors stop it in its tracks. Good stepping stone to progress into the emergency services as you are working with convicts.
