A great team to work for, but low pay
Skills Tutor (Former Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 9 May 2023
I enjoyed my time at cavc. The team I joined was exceptionally helpful and a great group of people to work with. We had easy access and contact with our managers, and had some level of autonomy within the role. Most of the staff witching the wider college are friendly and will do as much as they can to help each other, creating a good sense of culture. The biggest issues were that the role offered little growth. I also strongly believe that the pay, for not only my department, but the entire college seemed very low
Pros
Term time only
Cons
Little permanent contracts

Jobs at Cardiff and Vale College
collaberative environment, a lot of tasks
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) - Cardiff City Centre, Cardiff - 29 March 2023
That was my first ever job, I definitely learnt a lot. my colleagues were very friendly and the manager was approachable. the only downside is that the management is a bit unorganised. it took them about 3 days to sort out my tech equipment so I could start the job.
Pros
friendly environment
Cons
unorganised

Not enjoyable
Hospitality Assistant (Former Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 28 March 2023
This is not an enjoyable place to work. Several members of staff are very tricky to deal with throughout different departments and others are truly amazing.

Have always enjoyed working at company though senior level re-structure has added challenges and insecurities
Business Support Manager (Current Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 4 February 2023
Work is very fast paced though keeps employees on their toes - can be a little overwhelming with conflicting priorities occasionally, especially with a heavy management structure. Re-structuring is still on-going so hopefully will balance out. The majority of the workforce contains a vast amount of knowledge and expertise and team playing is essential to fitting into the culture of the organisation. Plenty of opportunity for staff development and progression.
Pros
Professional Development, insights into the life-changing operations that the company offers the community and further afield.
Cons
Conflicting priorities and a heavy management structure, limited human resource in operational business support.

Trying to turn the education of human beings into a business (of 'things' / measurable units) is impossible.
Lecturer (Former Employee) - Cardiff / Barry - 12 January 2022
Trying to turn the education of human beings into a business (of 'things' / measurable units) is impossible. This is a pity, this could be one of the best FE college in Wales, but it's not. It's just another business.
Pros
The students are great.
Cons
The staff really don't like each other; and some just should not be teachers at all.

Ok
Learning Coach Mentor (Former Employee) - Dumbells Road - 2 February 2020
Communication could be better and to ensure smooth running of tasks and delivery of education. The role needed much pastoral work and may be too much was expected far too soon

Absolutely no communication from management. Workloads are excessive and cause stress to extreme levels.
Heating & Ventilation Lecturer, Building Services (Current Employee) - Cardiff City - 9 December 2019
Do not work here!!!
Turn over of staff is incredibly high, senior managers deluded, over paid and arrogant.
Middle management out for themselves and refuse to make decisions.

It's not my fault
Technician (Former Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 11 February 2019
A company that cannot stand on its own two feet! Has gone through many restructures to try and get right staff, You need to change Mangement at the top to make this a happy place to work! A buck passing culture is the name of the game!!! Avoid if you value your health!!
Pros
Nice work mates
Cons
Management ignore you and like to past the buck

working for Cardiff and Vale college has been fun. I find the management team to be very supportive in areas of weakness. Cardiff and vale college in my opinion is indeed a very good place to work. it is a place where you feel at home and everyone makes you feel welcome.

Good place to work
BDM (Former Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 15 May 2018
Good team ethic , management a little distant and directionless. Facilities are excellent and city centre location was great..Not hugely efficient place to work and quite a disparity in wages between staffing levels
