Used to be a good employer, less so now
Inspector (Former Employee) - Dundee, Dundee City - 29 December 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedA fragmented organisation now. Too many senior managers with their own agendas. Peer support is a key asset. Hard but rewarding work. Career progression is possible but often only if your face fits.
Pros
Colleagues support is great, flexible working useful, but hard to get hours back when you work additional hours
Cons
Senior management are detached from frontline staff, appear not to understand what operational staff actually do, Also management very reactive rather than proactive.

"Things started to go downhill. Rapidly. And with no sign of stopping."
Software Developer (Former Employee) - Dundee, Dundee City - 14 July 2022
Job work-life balance: It's almost non-existent. The unrealistic deadlines demand that you work outside of your contracted hours. It's exceedingly difficult to get those hours back when the Flexi-scheme you're on caps you at 14-16 hours. Management is reluctant to switch your scheme to the “140 hours over 4 weeks” scheme, too. Job security/advancement: There is little security for a significant percentage of employees. Temporary contracts are rife, they range anywhere from three to nine months, and the organization renew them repeatedly. Some people have been on temporary contracts for years. Advancement isn't much better. There’s a shocking lack of PDPs and training opportunities. A very overused excuse for not investing in employees is that there is “no money left in the budget”. Job culture: Extremely high turnover rate. Example: 6-7 Scrum Masters / Project Managers (the titles are used interchangeably because management cannot decide if they want to be Agile or not) over three and a half years. It is very much a culture of management vs employees. Several attempts have been made by employees to raise concerns and unhappiness to management, and it leads nowhere. Management always says that they will “try to do better”, but it’s just lip service. Management: It's as if they try to do whatever it takes to be your enemy. You will not be trusted. They will often ignore your recommendations, even if you are considered an expert in the area for which you are providing that recommendation. Or worse, they will defer your recommendation to a person in the team who has little -
Pros
Pension, Annual leave, your fellow employees
Cons
Management, work-life balance, unrealistic deadlines

Stressful and disorganised
Digital Transformation Project Manager (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 1 September 2021
Management are not trained properly and regularly speak down to employees. Not a professional environment in the IT department. Nurses are doing IT jobs and have no idea what they are doing. Unrealistic targets. Wasting money on initiatives without involving key stakeholders. Communication is awful- many of the employees cannot write a simple email properly. Managers are biased and self involved. Poorly run and an embarassment

Great place to work and grow in your career
Head of Customer Service (Former Employee) - Dundee, Dundee City - 19 December 2019
The Care Inspectorate is a very professional, well organised and structured regulatory body. To work here you need to care about the work that it does.

Poor experience
Inspector (Former Employee) - Hamilton, South Lanarkshire - 8 November 2019
Organisation lacks structure. Left doesn’t know what the right is doing. Poor Induction process, gossiping culture. Recruitment process takes far too long and induction is poor

Enjoyable Work Place
Scrum Master (Former Employee) - Dundee, Dundee City - 10 October 2019
A great work/life balance where all employees enjoy putting in the time to deliver their work as a result. It's a small organisation with a big role ensuring that care services in Scotland are appropriately regulated.

Kind and helpful staff
Business Support Officer (Former Employee) - Dunfermline, Fife - 19 September 2019
The staff in the Dunfermline office were welcoming and friendly. I found the job underwhelming as I have had more demanding roles. I learned about the functions of the CI across Scotland and how they assess risk and seriousness.

Excellent client, pleasure to work with.
Digital Artist (Former Employee) - Dundee, SCT - 24 October 2013
We were payed to produce a video game for children ages 12-18. The game had to include an element of choice, stealth and character interaction. The project was ongoing from the start of 2013, however I was brought on later on for the funded part. A typical day at work would require designing new areas and characters, sending the sketches to 3D modellers and jumping on to texture painting. Towards the deadline we were working 12 hour days and I did everything from graphic design to illustration and modelling. Hard work paid off in the end and we were nominated for best student game at TIGA Game Industry Awards 2013.
Pros
Excellent experience and references
Cons
Long hours
