Hard work, management could be better and short staffed

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Almost always short staffed which then makes working even harder, the job is rewarding and getting to know the residents and families is so lovely but the job role and the expectations of the whole company are hard to meet

Professional and Person Centred

I had the pleasure to work in the Business Development and Contract Management Team for a temporary cover . I would recommend 100% working at Care UK as the Company has a solid background and the Residential and Care Services present High Standard.

Pros

Person Centred Environment, good wage, career progression opportunities

Cons

limited flexibility in terms of working patterns

Terrible

Low levels of staff retention seen about 20 carer's come and go since the start of the pandemic. Care staff treated like slaves by home manager and bossed around by other care workers make them cry. Kitchen staff treated like dogs some cant even have a break all day

Pros

Some carers really care

Cons

Slavery is better

Approach with caution

You will never be told when you are doing well, but you will be singled out if you make a mistake. Other team members are lovely, but the entire management team have no regard for staffs mental well being

Poor management

Won't recommend this company. I first started working for the company, when the company was changing software. The supervisor was mean selfish and nasty.

Care UK - I could kind no better definition of a Oxymoron

You would be better of being employed by an agency than directly by Care UK. Culture of bullying, no benefits in working direct, minimum company pension contribution, no sick pay, more chiefs than indians, no loyalty Avoid at all costs.

If you’re happy plodding along ...

I worked within the finance department. The atmosphere in the team was usually ok for the majority and there wasn’t any major issues. I went for training with the view that the company would like me to progress however when the opportunity arose for me to progress this wasn’t the case. My line manager (and the manager above him) wanted me to progress however the team for me to progress into was not so willing. If you’re looking for a role to plod along in then it will suit you however if you want to progress I wouldn’t bother. There are opportunities elsewhere that would be better suited (and for more competitive pay) Parking in the main office is a nightmare on most occasions. If you manage to get a space then you’re likely to be blocked in, if you need to get your car out it can sometimes take 15-20 mins to move everyone - that’s if everyone is around - on many occasions people leave the office and don’t tell reception nor do they leave their keys with anyone to move their car for them. The ladies on reception are lovely in helping you try to get cars moved and pointing you in the right direction of who to talk to.

Pros

Some friendly staff

Cons

Parking, overtime without being paid, no career progression

Good Company

Working on 2 -2 ratio with clients. Meeting care needs as required. Management were good, no real complaints. Workplace was nice, adapted well for the clients. Hardest part of the job was communication barriers. Most enjoyable part was doing activities that the clients enjoyed.

Not the best place to work

I have mixed reviews on Care UK as they made me redundant as part of streamlining the division ready for sale. The culture there was negative a lot of the time and lower paid employees were not treated very well at all.

Good place to work but staff are very busy with residents

Fun place to be around residents are happy to see your face snd are willing to have a chat as they don't get to see family or there loved one due to the illness that they may have like dementia or mental Heath condition and it very challenging but rewarding as well

Pros

Free lunch and your aloud to attend to day out to support your colleagues snd the residents

Uncaring company to work for

Worked as a support member of staff in administration. The senior administrator was rude, unkind and a bully. The senior management knew about this person's behaviour and did very little about it. In Careuk support staff are not valued as they are considered to be easily replaceable, therefore there is nothing in place to make you want to stay. Health care benefits and bonuses are only available to the senior staff. In this department, training was supposed to be given by the senior administrator but she was in her words ' too busy' to train anyone and 'could not cope with doing the job and training'. Yet there were lots of capacity in the department! The most enjoyable part of the job was when the senior was off, the rest of the team worked well together and was very supportive. People were scared to say if they had capacity during their day, for fear of losing their jobs. Very poor management at the lower levels.

Pros

None

Cons

Totally unsupportive company, with an atmosphere of fear

Busy admin role in an open plan office environment. Updating spreadsheets, typing, answering calls and dealing with enquiries in a timely manner

I can make updating excel spread sheets and recording data for monthly presentation to the Executive Team enjoyable! Providing administrative support to the Director of Governance and a team of 30 remote team members on a daily basis is a piece of cake, as is maintaining a Risk Rating Profile, compiling a Monthly Manager's Report, attending Health & Safety Meetings to take, type and distribute minutes to attendees. The preparation of associated documentation for meetings and coordinating training/induction presentations is something I undertake occasionally whilst updating and uploading policy documents and supporting information to intranet and maintaining the Quality and Governance area of the internal website is relatively new to me but I enjoy developing new skills. Booking accommodation, conference venues, meeting rooms and travel for the senior team members can be challenging but I rise to them with ease, both via an electronic central booking system and by telephone/email. I enjoy my job as a lone worker on occasion but prefer being a valued team member, enjoying a good relationship with my team and other colleagues throughout the company. I have recently developed my excel capabilities to intermediate level with some knowledge of more advanced spread sheets. The part of my day I least enjoy is the travel to and from work since moving house, hence my search for something more local to Shotley, Suffolk. I love nothing better than typing up policies and preparing and formatting lengthy presentation documents.

Pros

Great working relationship with my line manager

Cons

The journey to and from work since moving house.

Fascinating work place

Friendly environment with good work ethics. Hard work, but rewarding - gained experience in dealing with telephone interviews. Minor issues with logging onto site, but good experience nonetheless.

Pros

Valuable experience

Cons

Long travel distance
