Not a very nice company to work for, they bully their staff, absolutely disgusting company
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 12 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing good about the company, they don't care for their staff or residents, all they are interested in is the money they get from the residents thay stay their, they are robbing them blind for their own personal gain! Absolutely disgusting company to work for. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Nobody cares, nobody does their jobs properly, any problems arise and they don't deal with the situation they brush it under the carpet as though nothing happened What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Horrible environment to work in, everyone is just depressed that works there, shame on the residents as they pay a lot and don't get what they pay for in any aspect of care What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful place to work management don't care of any issues staff are always left to work short as no one wants to work there

Jobs at Care UK
in EdinburghAmazing place to work
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 24 July 2023
Amazing place to work. Bloom Care provides care services for a range of needs and requirements, with both nursing care and residential homes options available. They provide care and residence for people with dementia, mental health needs, alcohol and substance detox, rehabilitation services, reintegration care, nursing care, and home care including rapid response emergency care for people who need help at home quickly.

Good place to work
Unit Manager (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 24 March 2022
Worked as a unit manager at care uk. Good company to work for and don’t have people breathing down your neck. The homes are beautiful and are catered for the elderly
Pros
Autonomy

Good care staff but communication is shocking.
Staff Nurse (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 29 December 2021
Very, VERY poor communication between staff and management. No email address unless you are a manager or administration staff which makes emailing details for ward rounds more complicated than they need to be. Induction training is woefully short and the it systems are out dated and overcomplicated.
Pros
Some care staff are genuinely interested in the wellbeing of the residents.
Cons
12 hour shifts

Hostess (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 19 October 2021
The job as a host was not too bad, infact was quite easy but the management was horrible. The General Manager had the bad habits of changing shifts often without even tell you! And lots of errors on payslips. And they really do not care. Could not be able to take it anymore so I left Not recommended at all
Pros
Easy job as a host
Cons
General manager and management in general

Unreasonable expectations, unfair payment scheme
Domestic Cleaner (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 16 September 2021
The job itself is fine, cleaning and everything was pretty simple and easy to understand. However I was constantly told I was working too slow even though I'd always manage to get everything clean with sometimes over an hour to spare, but yet it was not ever enough. They also don't pay fairly, they'll pay you a month after the month that you worked, so you'll be waiting a while to receive any decent amount of money for your work at first. And if you want that money sooner, you have to pay them and only get up to 40% of the money you rightfully earned. It is unfair that they make people wait so long for pay, and then expect you to give them money for not even half the money you rightfully earned over the month. Would not recommend working for this company.
Pros
Mostly friendly staff
Cons
Unfair treatment, long time to wait for pay

My experience at Cairdean was definitely positive. Great management, caring to the Residents, caring to the staff. The team was also lovely and the atmosphere was very nice.

Cairdean, fun place to work, lovely surroundings
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 8 June 2021
A large home with many residents and work colleagues (they work in teams). Ensure a mentor, do not depend on admin. to give any info. Nice managers.
Pros
Fantastic training opportunities.
Cons
Long hours (12 hour shifts)

The people you work with determines your experience.
Hostess (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, Corstorphine - 7 September 2020
Residents make all the difference, you will learn more about yourself and empathy and compassion levels will increase when working here. I have made life long friends while working there. Management have their favourites, little career progression unless you are a carer. Communication between the different teams are terrible. A certain nurse (J) which works on the nursing floor thinks she knows everything and makes carers (the ones that aren’t in her favourites group) feel tiny and she treats them differently. A lot, a LOT of staff refuse to work with her. HIGH staff turnover due to new home manager, the home went downhill after she joined.
Pros
Friendly atmosphere between staff on the floor, great work life balance and culture between employees.
Cons
A new home manager made staff leave quicker than I have ever seen, no encouragement, did not introduce herself or learn names, no basic empathy and ran the home like a dictator and probably still does.

Good care home
Domestic Assistant (Current Employee) - Edinburgh - 11 March 2020
Depends what staff are on with you. Some staff and managers are more hands on than others. Our residents are all nice and friendly. We as staff are here for our residents friends and family as well as our residents

Poor, staff only a number
care assistant (Former Employee) - Edinburgh - 21 September 2019
Staff made to feel inadequate by the nursing staff. If your not part of the clique you are unheard and your opinion does not matter. Home runs on a lot of agency. Some staff are fantastic but again not heard as dont run with the cliques. Rota continuously being changed and your not informed. Unable to retain staff. Constantly harassed by endless group messages asking to cover shifts. Avoid.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your comments. Our aim is to ensure that residents living in our homes lead happy, fulfilled lives and this means that the central recruitment team is focused 100 per cent on ensuring that we recruit the right people with the right skills to care for residents. To ensure that we are providing the best care, we do audit a number of areas of our work to look at how we can do even better and this has contributed to us improving the ratings we have been given by the CQC to one of the best among our peers. Whilst we continue to be committed to reducing agency usage within our homes, we recognise that there is always room for improvement and we appreciate your honest feedback. We wish you well for the future, Care UK Careers
Avoid at all costs
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 27 January 2019
I was a care assistant at a care home in Edinburgh worst place I've ever worked in my life. I could give an endless list of why working for this company is shocking and appalling but was treated like dirt and you get dumped on avoid at all costs.Do not work here. Unless you like being bullied, forgotten about and treated like dirt, given duties that hostesses do not want to do anymore that is not in your job description and get assigned to kitchen or housekeeping duties because staff walk out all the time. Constantly harrased by txt message for staff to cover shifts. No support from management they never seem to be in the office, your concerns are ignored. Avoid with with your life.!!
Pros
Not working there anymore
Cons
Everything is wrong with this place
