Pros

Cons

The staff to service user ratio is not compatible. Imagine 1 carer supporting 20 residents the whole night.

A good company with flexible working shifts. However, the ratio of Carers to service users is not bearable. 1 night carer is required to look after 20 service users and the company is okay with that. The workload is too much

Pros

Free meals

Cons

High workload

Didn’t make it past the training

I enjoyed the training but too many staff were not following their training techniques. Very clique place, unhappy staff. They do their best to put you off working there by complaining about the company. Hardest part of the job was seeing bad practice while shadowing staff. The most enjoyable part of the job was making the residents smile

Pros

Lovely residents

Cons

Toxic environment, witnessed bad carer practice

Good place to work

It is a small family like environment however some staffs can be a bit overwhelming and dominating. Keep it absolute professional relationship to succeed in this place. All in all I like it here.

Great people terrible managers and false promises

In a day to day work it was good with the team that I was with, I was recommended by head nurse to be a team leader and when I first spoke to this with management I told them I can only do day shifts and gradually night shifts within 6/7 months due recent bervement which they was ok about it and said they will start training by next week. 1 month passed 2 months passed 3 months! And heard nothing from them, I asked and they said said it will soon but it never came

Good company to work with

When I’ve started my job at Care Uk I felt appreciated and I was so excited. After a year it’s completely changed. Changing staff all the time. Management not approachable all. Lots of group of people stabbing each other and then trying to be nice to you. Awful behaviour. Lots of paperwork and paperwork. First Care home where they don’t have any tablets or phone that life and work will be easier. Apply and see what I’m talking about

Pros

Zero

Cons

No pay breaks

Good place to work

It's good not great. As all HCA it's pretty much minimum. Has the clicks like most jobs do. Hours are long and thankless most of the time. You will not get a GEM award unless you are in the clicks. Being able to work full time over less days is great though. Also don't get sick, you will go on a disaplinary

Pros

Free Meals, amazing residents

Cons

Poor management style. Low pay. Long hours. Can't get poorly without being told off.

Awful place to work.

Awful working in environment, lack of support by management. Lack of help by management. Poor quality of pay. No work life balance. A culture of bullying by the managers to the staff. You couldn’t speak out.

Stressful with little to no support

Different care uk homes pay care staff different hourly rates. High staff turnover. A lot of agency care staff used. No support offered when mental health is effected by the job. Everyone has their own way of doing things within the company. Care staff have decisions made for them and are expected to follow them without having an opinion on the matter.

Stressful and not worth it.

started out great, first week was okay, got my shift pattern, and thats where it went wrong... They call you when it's your day off or you know you're not rota'd in, and ask why you're not at work guilt tripping you and demand you come in also threatening to take wages off you that you have earned. constantly short-staffed, you have to do 3 peoples job, whilst trying to do yours and lunch breaks don't exist. You're constantly on the go from 7:30am (shift are at 8am - 8pm) until about 8:30pm, you start early and finish late with no extra pay, no thank you, no nothing.

Pros

nothing to be honest.

Cons

long hours, missing wages, poor wages, don't pay what you're owed, lunch breaks dont exsist.

Mostly short staff they expect the world for minimum wage

At first it was good ,, management think there better than you , never step in to help are always in the office eating,,, when visitors are in ear shot out they come and interact with residents...it’s a business that’s it

Pros

None

Cons

Poor pay, they change your shift at the drop of a hat, don’t plan anything on your days off

Management don't care

My current manager doesn't care about care staff, if you want to progress and you ask about the progression courses you never recieve anything back, They don't show appreciation for good work but will pull up even the slightest negative in a second, the staff turnover rate is through the roof and nothing is being done about anything any of the staff request plus we are constantly understaffed with the common excuses of if one person can do it everyone can do it which is untrue.

Pros

Payment is on time

Cons

High staff turnover, Poor management, Understaffing, unrealistic expectations, little to no teamwork

Not a nice place to work only the lovely residents keep you going

I have worked as a care assistant for many years but this has been the worst company I have worked for. Bullying is the order of the day by the nurses and management although there are some nurses who are lovely to work with Management is not supportive at all as they will only listen to the bully’s side of the story. You work hard but no one appreciates you instead its all aboutbfault finding and blame culture.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your comments. It is concerning to read a reference about bullying. Care UK adopts a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and harassment and it is within our best interests to resolve this for you as soon as possible. In the first instance, we would encourage you to speak with your Home Manager about how you are feeling. If this is not possible or hasn’t been successful, then please do make further contact with the HR Department at the support centre and we will ensure that an investigation is carried out.Care UK Careers

Avoid at all costs

Bullying culture from management. Awful company to work for. No support. Left to struggle and no help given. If they feel threatened you'll challenge them they'll make your life there miserable. Be warned! It's not worth the stress. Ran on agency staff as all the staff leave due to stress.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, rubbish pay, nasty line managers
