Exhausting job, fine workplace

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The job is okay but quite tedious. Over time you become more and more exhausted from the physical labour of some residents. Working in a team is important, but some team members believe they are above you when you are new, even when doing the same job.

Pros

Some free snacks in the mornings

Cons

The residents

Lovely place

Not too shabby... Long hours, but the income doesn’t compensates the stress. Free meal, nice management, and freedom to express yourself. My feedback says it all.

Pros

Free meal

Cons

Long hours and underpaid

Horrendous place to work.

Senior staff aren't very nice they like to remind you they are above you. To much work for the rubbish pay they are giving. Hours are to long. Breaks are to short. They just expect to much of the staff and half of them don't have a clue what they are doing.

Cons

Other staff

Very well organised

I've worked in many care homes across the country. Care UK have been the best. My manager was fantastic. Lots of benefits. I think the pay could be a little better.

Residents make it worth wild, management don’t care

Lured in with all the benefits, a couple of months down the line you are left to fend for yourself.Management don’t care, just interested in numbers, a few serious issues brought up but nothing done.Your ok if your in with management or team leaders. One rule for one, one for another. Only good thing is they are flexible with hours.Over worked expected to do more than you should. Atmosphere and tension between staff.

Pros

Hours flexible

Cons

Management. Atmosphere.

Not supportive

I have worked for CareUK for almost 3 years and every suggestion, report or complaint has not been taken seriously nor is it followed up. Management are rude and do not care about your mental or physical well-being as will keep physically aggressive residents even if they draw blood from staff, which has happened to me plenty of times. I have been told that it’s not managements problems if someone feels unwell and they will not properly allocate staff after finding out someone has called in sick but will pretend to. Staff are not part of a union and never will be so don’t expect any benefits. The work itself isn’t actually that bad and some care homes are good but it’s the management that is the issue so can’t really avoid it lol

Pros

Free lunch (even if it’s tasteless)

Cons

The management

Fun place to work lovely staff

Mills meadow is a lovely care home. It doesn’t feel like a care home more like a hotel with a lovely coffee shop. You can have a drink and your free lunch in the coffee shop. It has lovely gardens too . The staff are all very kind caring and helpful.

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

No healthcare

Good teamwork and good work environment

Good place to work and also great colleagues. Free food which is a great benefit. Very supportive manager and great colleagues who teach me and guide me throughout my shifts.

Pros

Free Lunch, flexible hours

Cons

Short break

Clicky and non stop

I didn’t feel like I was in a team. Over worked under paid. Sometimes I couldn’t even take my un paid breaks. Management made out to be one big family but it was the total opposite. Spoken down too. Very click place to work.

Pros

Free lunch if any left by time you got it.

Cons

12 hour shifts

Opportunity for development but no management support

Working in Care UK can be rewarding but also distressing. There are many opportunities for self-development. Free food all day for all staff members. There is also short staff all the time and no management support.

Well paid

Well paidTreated wellCan be cliquey, but that’s the same with anywhere you work!Get a free meal on shift which is a real uplift. Sometimes there isn’t a lot of consistency as to which section you work in.

Tiring long shifts

Can be good sometimes depending on who is working on the shift mist if the staff are good managers are different category don't listen to what you say

Good place to work

It's good not great. As all HCA it's pretty much minimum. Has the clicks like most jobs do. Hours are long and thankless most of the time. You will not get a GEM award unless you are in the clicks. Being able to work full time over less days is great though. Also don't get sick, you will go on a disaplinary

Pros

Free Meals, amazing residents

Cons

Poor management style. Low pay. Long hours. Can't get poorly without being told off.

Don’t waste your time

The place is in desperate need of a younger fresher face to take over with an open mind and new ideas. Management are very stuck in their ways, rude, have no communication skills and talk down to you because the ‘authority’ has gotten to their heads. If you wish to have management shout at you in-front of other staff and residents in an unprofessional manner when you do something wrong, this jobs for you. Management have their favourites (if you’ve been there 10+ years) and that’s not many. If you’re not a favourite, expect no respect or praise for your work. Team leaders are up to their necks in work so are unable to teach new staff the ways of working. Your first two weeks are supposedly meant to be a two week, planned out induction. It was a complete mess and no structure. They may have an outstanding CQC, however that’s only for paperwork side of things. That’s because you’re made to fill in any gaps, even if you didn’t work that day.The home is also very dated, along with the food. These residents pay so much to live there yet do not get what they deserve. Constant high staff turnover and always understaffed.

Pros

Residents are fantastic.
