Pressured to pick up shifts, poor standards

Clicky, under staffed at all times, always more agency than contracted staff on shift, no support, always pressured to do more hours, standards of personal hygiene very poor, all management care about is that paperwork is all up to date, they don’t care about the residents and their needs

Pros

Lovely residents

Cons

Pressure, no support, DON’T work at Ferndown Manor, leaving soon

Poor at keeping people happy

Care UK should be just called UK as they give you too much work and if you don't do all the work they get at you. You never can get it all done as they dont have a full set of staff. Housekeeping are good people and work hard and they need more as they don't get to do the job right. I also heard that they run out of hand towels, toilet rolls and toilet paper. How are they going to clean a building if they are not getting new cloths and how do they put hand towels and toilet paper or toilet rolls if they run out. It hard work and for the money I will now be more happy I have gone to somewhere better.

bullying culture

working for care UK has really opened up my eyes as to how these care homes are run behind the scenes. Bad attitudes from management, they say they are approachable which is untrue- they constantly roll their eyes if approached. shortage of staff because management cant treat staff with basic respect. I worry about the residents safety as staff are always overworked but nobody considers this. I would never recommend working here ! The majority of staff members are unprofessional Things learnt would be how to figure out how to understand management whilst they are shouting at members of staff ...in front of family members. The best bit about the job is the residents and seeing them smile.

Horrible, horrible place to work

I don't know where to start. Manager appalling in every way, self centred and uncaring at every level. You will never get a shift swop even when it is an emergency. The management have no idea what they are doing and what goes on as they never leave the office. I was so unhappy working there I had to leave after only a few months. This home needs closing down.

Is Indeed your favorite place to learn about companies?

A fun and rewarding place to work

I enjoyed working for Care UK and have been there from October 2010 to April 2015. Unfortunately they closed the branch in April 2015. We had a opportunity to improve our skills and progress upwards. The training was up to date and very fulfilling when carrying out our duties within the community.

Pros

flexible hours

Cons

can be tiring

Challenging

The company was very good at providing flexibility in hours, The staff were friendly and approachable. It was a nice company to work for, and there was room for progression and getting the right qualifications.

Not Good

'Very, very' poor management sadly. The environment is lovely - perfectly built for the client group - but this is not everything nor does it reflect the standard of care that is delivered. BUT the management really let the home down. The staff are not respected, valued or treated fairly. Humiliated in front of others. This bad treatment has led sadly to an exceptionally high turnover of staff which in turn unsettles the team. High numbers of new recruits arrive continuously to replace the ones that can't take it anymore. This makes it hard for the team to adjust and for the clients to know the staff as they constantly change. If only careuk would take notice of this high turnover and act to improve the situation. In could be a lovely place for staff and clients. I can only hope.

Pros

Free parking, Free meals

Cons

Low wages, poor management

could improve on stafffing

they based the levels off staff on the number of residents in the home but i disagree with this. the level of care the residents need should decide the staff levels. some residents need a higher level of care than others

Work from home

Care for family member 24/7, Until I put day time carers so I can work during the day and care for my dad during the night. It gives me flexibility. Normal week would consist of house duties including washing/dry cleaning. Appointments needing attending to, medical or otherwise. Dealing with all correspondences and paperwork, finances and other paperwork. Managing and organising day to day life activity. Going swimming, park, social clubs and other recreational activities for stimulation. This part I enjoy the most as it is beneficial spiritually, physically and mentally.

Pros

Being there for my dad

Cons

Long hours a lot of work. No real rest

I love the clients I see but care uk is in desperate need of work to the office. Not great at the moment because the teams keep changing. Hopefully it will improve.

Ok

I worked in the evening as a domicilliary carer working with different clients in their various homes so my typical days ranges from preparing evening meals, could be sandwiches and tea, assisting to get ready for bed and ensuring security of the house. I did not learn much because it was a part time job and some times I provided services just for 15 minutes and I was able to cope with the different moods of my clients. I worked with pleasant colleagues whilst working as a double up. The hardest part of the job was going from one client to another especially in the winter time I enjoyed putting smiles on my clients and befriending them and making life more comfortable for them

Pros

None

Cons

Ttrekking in winter from one client to another

Flexible work place

Within this role i cared for the elder again, providing the highest standard of care i possibly could. Helping my patients with their cooking, cleaning, washing and bathing. I find caring very enjoyable and rewarding. Even though Care UK were reasonable with my hours, the hardest part of this job was the long hours i had to work, as i used to work early in the morning to late at night.

Ok

The most enjoyable part of the job is when you get to someones house and his or she's in such a mess and you are there to sort them out, good feeling when you leave them happy and content. The hardest think ever is when you loose somebody and you find out months after,so you miss the chance to pay there respect and there funeral, that's down to the bad management in the office, you always like some co-workers more than others.Everyday day you learn something new.A typical day at work, very buzy wizing around the places you have to visit, good feeling the end of the day.
