Poor management
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Brentwood, Essex - 16 April 2020
The support houses are fairly good to work in. The clients are great and seniors and staff very good. The operation manager has several members of her family working in each support so poor practice there. She is unsupportive and her idea of supervisions are asking you into a room with a Senior taking notes and intimidating you! I’ve never experienced anything like it before and Izvestia worked in care for 37 years.

Very little support, long hours, mediocre training
Support worker (Former Employee) - Ashton-Under-Lyne, Greater Manchester - 29 November 2019
I had already previously worked with people with disabilities before applying for this role, so I had a inital idea what it would be like. Very stressfull, long hours, but the main gripe was the training, very mediocre and I really didnt find id learnt anything really, and it was extremly boring. Support, wasnt great considering the role is mentally tiring.

Would never recommend anyone to work here.
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Farm lane SW6 - 20 October 2019
Staff are treated like robots, residents are left in bed all day when there are not enough staff. Nurse don’t support the care assistance, This company only cares about making money they are the worst company to work for. I wouldn’t leave my cat there.
Pros
Absolutely none
Cons
It hard work with little reward

Do not work here
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Staffordshire - 22 September 2019
A company run by idiots, great if you have a friend who is in charge then you can sit sunbathing and smoking all day with them, delegate all actual work to staff you don’t like and make it clear, lots of bullying by the person in charge and her friend. Clients bullied into having lunch out at places to suit the people in charge and their money being spent on lunch. Disgraceful!

Official response from Care UK Residential Care Services
30 September 2019Thank you for taking the time to provide you comments. It is concerning to read a reference about bullying. Care UK adopts a zero tolerance approach to bullying and harassment and it is within our best interests to resolve this for you as soon as possible. In the first instance, we encourage employees to speak with their Home Manager about how they are feeling. If this is not possible or has been unsuccessful, please do make further contact with the HR Department at the support centre and we will ensure that an investigation is carried out. We wish you well for the future, Care UK Careers

Support Worker (Former Employee) - Lostock Hall - 10 November 2018
I enjoyed working for these but felt I needed more of a challenge and a new out look for my career. I worked with adults with learning disabilities.

Not a very enjoyable place to work
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Stoke-on-Trent - 24 October 2018
Meeting the same clients who you know their needs and very easy to support.
Learnt to keep to self and do my work diligently.
Listens to gossip and divides staff.
Work culture of reporting each other and people facing disciplinary measures that end up not being true and letters of apologies written.
The hardest part of the job is to be paired with someone who spends the day looking for errors than co-supporting the client.
The most enjoyable part of the job is to fill you have done the best for the client.
Pros
Knowing the days of the month you are to work, meeting new nice people, going to recreational places and holidays with the client.
Cons
Risk being reported, sleeping in for more days than expected because someone calls in sick

overview of the company
Health support worker (Former Employee) - London - 1 December 2017
Care UK as a company is an excellent place to be, with a fine management on top. Regardless of my resignation from the company, they thought me all I knew about care. We cannot but find individual who pose very difficult, they must be checked to take life easy because they make life hard at work once in a while but typically when you work with a nice team day or night you will enjoy working for ever in care UK
Pros
Training, free meal
Cons
contracted and more hours available

horrible
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Derbyshire - 25 October 2017
never felt so belittled than I did working for this company. bad pay, I was working a lot of hours beginning at 6.30 am and then having a 6 hour break inbetween and working until 10.30pm at night. 5 to 10 minute per call which is unreasonable and ridiculous

overall not bad
Support Worker/Carer (Former Employee) - Hounslow, Greater London - 12 September 2017
I enjoyed working with service users and the members of staff. I learnt to empower service user more by assisting them in their daily activities and supporting with their needs. the employers were very encouraging and great team players. the workplace culture was slightly laid back with less motivation. the hardest part of the job was when people would not turn up for their shifts and there was more workload but few staff to do the job. there was a lack of communication with management.
Pros
free afternoon snacks and lifts from drivers.
Cons
less staff, more work, lack of communication

great job, company ok to work for
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Wolverhampton, West Midlands - 3 September 2017
I would go and assist elderly people within their own homes. I learnt a lot about the job as I hadn't done care within the community before. the management were ok to work for but didn't seem to sort problems out when needed. workplace was ok, wasn't in one workplace consistently so couldn't really comment on the workplace. the hardest part of the job was when clients passed away. the enjoyable part of the job was knowing I was helping someone.
Pros
helping people
Cons
help not always provided
