Its a privilege to see lives tranceformed
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Leicestershire - 18 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? Great job for someone who is highly motivated. Working for the carpenter's Arms is so rewarding. Helping men out of addiction. Nothing comes close to that. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Seeing what addiction does to them and families What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Fast pased, very enjoyable and run on a Christian ethos to help rebuild lives What is a typical day like for you at the company? The day is structured so it important to keep things running smoothly. Which can be a challenge its self. But it's 100% rewarding no days are the same. I highly recommend working for this company

Fun
Waitress/Bar Staff (Former Employee) - South Marston, Wiltshire - 3 August 2022
Workers are good fun, customers are most of the time, really nice and patient. The workers definitely made up for the minium wage or else there's nothing really keeping you at the job. Really good to get waitressing and bartending experience as staff and customers are really patient with you.
Pros
0 hour contract, free food occasionally
Cons
0 hour contract

Productive, fun workplace
As far as hospitality goes this is a great place to work, management are flexible with shifts and seem to care for all staff, everyone works as a team whether bar or kitchen, locals a pleasure to serve. Only left because I moved away from the area.
Pros
Flexible management/free meals
Cons
Low pay (although I appreciate this is the same for all hospitality roles)

BAR STAFF (Former Employee) - Harlington, Bedfordshire - 14 October 2019
I enjoyed working here - all of the staff were lovely and ranged in age and ability, I was able to swap or adapt shifts where necessary and was trusted enough to be put in charge of the pub at times.

Jobs at Carpenters Arms
Ok until management changed hands
Housekeeper (Former Employee) - Newbury - 29 June 2019
This place is a lovely place to work depending on who's running it and the land lords and ladies change very often. The first couple where lovely and I was happy, the only negative was i’d be sent home early a lot due to not being needed so I think its more suited for part time.
After being there three months new landlords came in and my experience wasn't very nice. They sacked a gentleman who’d been there years in they're first week. They took a instant dislike to me and didn't speak to me, made me feel very uncomfortable to the point everyone would be being spoken too while I was clearly left out. To make things worse they gave half my hours away to one of my colleagues halving my hours therefore making it financially impossible for me to stay.
Pros
Nice location, relaxed good for part time
Cons
Hit and miss if its good or horrible depending on landlords

Pros
Great hours for part time work.
Cons
Rural location.

It’s a lovely place. Unfortunately the management on a very low level. Experience issue for management and front of house.
Big company and they don’t bother about employee as much as they should, shame becouse the location of this place is out of this world.
Pros
50%off food and accommodations
Cons
Long hours and bad management

Well organised motivating place to work
A great place to work, i loved working here as the pub attracted a lot of like minded people to myself with similar interests. I've learnt a lot from working here, time management, organisation, customer service. I also learnt a lot from getting to know the regulars and discovering what they're own lives involve. From working here for 2 and a half years I have worked with lots of people, generally bar work draws in creative people, so it was nice sharing our ideas with each other and giving advice. I generally found the job easy and enjoyable. The most enjoyable part for me was feeling at the centre of a community and getting to know people from all walks of life.
Pros
free food, great regulars
Cons
hard to plan personal life around work

Fun and enjoyable work place
Waitress/Bar person (Current Employee) - Cambridge, ENG - 13 November 2014
Whilst working at the Carpenters Arms, you don't have the same work day every day. Some days you could be opening the pub which would involve the morning cleaning, serving breakfast and getting the pub ready for opening. During the day I serve customers their food and drinks, I also catch up with any cleaning that needs doing if we are quiet. If you were on a close at work, that would involve closing down the bar/restaurant and setting it up for breakfast the next day. This would involve clearing the restaurant and resetting tables, setting up for breakfast, cleaning the bar down, cash reading, and locking the pub.
Pros
Meeting and interacting with a large variety of people.
Cons
Long and unreliable hours and shift work.

Busy, fast paced environment
Landlady (Current Employee) - Fangfoss - 2 August 2014
On a typical day I liase with customers, clients and suppliers via the telephone, email or in face to face meetings. I work front of house as waitress, bar maid as well as the manager. I have between 3-10 staff at one time which I delegate duties to, motivate and monitor their progress. On a weekly basis I engage in administrative duties such as the accounts and health and safety. I have learnt an awful lot during my year at The Carpenters Arms which has taught me a lot about business, management and general customer service. I organise events, place orders and deal with customers as well as professionals such as my accountant. The hardest part about my job is managing to have a good ratio between work and my social life as I am at the pub 24/7 and the best part about my job is the satisfaction at the end of the week if the sales figures have increased and making my general customers happy. My challenge with the pub has been trying to turn it from being a relatively unknown destination to making it more of a reputable place and a success with events, food and drink.
Pros
Self Employed
Cons
Long hours & tied to the job
