Shocking

Indeed featured review

Worked here for quite some time. You are never appreciated you are simply a number. Most of management team do not/cannot manage. Pay is awful considering the amount of work that's expected. Lack of training and communication. No money in the world would make me go back.

Good business to work for

Do more research than just disgruntled ex-employees voicing their frustration - two sides to every story. Also consider how old the reviews are, things change, and change quickly.Castelan have various departments and roles, so make sure any research you complete (here or elsewhere) relates to the role you're considering. A day in the life of an in-home repair technician is very different to a day in the life of a Head Office worker, and their experiences will vastly vary.Wherever you work though, it's a fast paced environment, dealing mainly in customer service. Those who have worked in customer service know the demands they can put on you, and know that 'at times' customers can be difficult. That said, those who working customer service now the satisfaction it can bring when we get it right and make a real difference.Does the business look after it's customers and it's employees... absolutely yes!! More can be done and the business welcomes constructive input from employees on how this can be achieved via an employee representative forum, which the CEO chairs. A great opportunity to influence real change in your role/ department and the business.

Pros

Good environment, good opportunities to develop, good working hours

Good people, poorly managed

The office environment is productive and relaxed, with good people doing their best. Pay is good for management graded roles, but very low for administrative ones. Poor quality management driven by top-down behaviour is a problem, with a lack of leadership shown and a sense of unequal and inconsistent treatment of different employees. Very heavy workload is an issue, with a lack of profitability making this more acute. Teamwork is excellent, supported by colleagues who really take pride in what they do.

Pros

Good office environment

Cons

Progression not based on merit

Busy,

Worked there for a while, its not the best place. Your like a number not a person,Management do not manage! Some dont even know the job your doing. Interested in figures not people. Working there you need to just put your head down do the job and leave at the end of the day. Asked for Training so hard to get.

Pros

Near train station bus links, good office hours

Cons

Not a happy place, poor morale

You don`t need to be a tradesman to work for this company

I worked for this company for 14 years. I am a fully qualified City Of Guilds upholsterer. I saw a lot of changes in this time I worked for this company. They only employed to begin with fully skilled tradesman. They now take on non skilled personnel and give them a few weeks training and then send them into peoples property to repair furniture. The customer believes they are having a fully skilled tradesman?. The area managers of the teams have no previous practical skills of the trades they are managing. They only seem to know about keeping the states of each individual technician and pressurizing them to be top. So if you have a technical problem they are unable to advise or help. I found that they encourage technicians to repair everything even if it is not covered as a manufacturing defect or on the warranties. this is to get as much revenue for the company as they can and also get there individual bonus up. One example is. If a seat cushion has settlement from years of usage. which is natural settlement from customer usage. They will direct the technician to bodge it by sticking non manufacturing parts into the seat cushion foam interior. This would be chipfoam added between the webbing and base of the seat interior. to boast the seat. This chipfoam will crumble and degrade within the year. The pressure to keep your stats up encourages technicians to repair furniture that does not require any type of repairing or is not covered under the warranties or retailer. The area mangers turn a blind eye to this and reward technicians through the bonus scheme.  -

Non

Cons

No support. They are only interested in your stats
