Really work for what you earn
Steel Worker (Current Employee) - Skinningrove, North Yorkshire - 3 July 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIf you’re looking for somewhere to advance in the industry this isn’t the place for you. You start off on agency as every one does and you could be waiting 3-5 years before you get a full time contract. Even though you’re doing the same job as everyone if you’re on agency you don’t get sick pay or access to caterpillar shares. Another thing is that you only get 30 mins break in 12 hours, yes you can go to the toilet or quickly grab a bite but only if you have the time. The work itself is very repetitive and boring, also expect to be doing the same thing over and over again for months as they don’t move people around different areas.

Poor management
Welder (Current Employee) - Stockton-on-Tees, Durham - 28 June 2022
Very poor management they aren’t from the steel industries or even a engineering. Is very hard for them to explain to exorcised welders and platers when they don’t have a clue what they are doing

Ok
Hand burner/ machine Operator/assembly operator (Former Employee) - Peterlee - 2 May 2022
Not a bad place the money is ok if your on top salary but if not it’s very basic looks good pay but it’s a 38hr week so even 14.00 a hour is not the best the lads doing 12hrs earned good money i got the feeling it was going down hill really struggling to keep staff I didn’t have problems with management but a lot of people did I was very surprised with the turn over of staff on the welding and assembly.

Great team of people fun to work there
Paint plant operative (Former Employee) - Desford - 21 April 2022
Great place to work unfortunately you can only get in there through an onsite agency and when they do take on you have to apply through there own advance page with a updated cv and there are limited to how many people they take on in any given time

Exciting and active workplace
Manufacturing Engineer – Industrial Placement (Former Employee) - Belfast - 19 April 2022
Great atmosphere within all the teams (admin + production). Large variety of tasks but can sometimes be too much. Scope for development exists. Four day work week provides a good work-life balance. Management is fairly considerate but following up on requests is recommended.
Pros
Four day work week
Cons
Difficult to close out and review tasks due to understaffing and high demand of new work.

Good company to work for
Assembly Fitter (Current Employee) - Peterlee, Durham - 7 April 2022
Good company to work for, agency work is agency work though so it is volatile at times but a core employee is very well looked after. Great benefits and pension scheme
Pros
Short weeks with good money
Cons
Agency heavy

Grind ...
Operations technician (Former Employee) - Desford, Leicestershire - 2 April 2022
Unhappy staff, bad management of staff, no advancement, repetitive work. Treat people differently, plenty of discrimination. Make you stay and stand around doing nothing. Good money.

Awful draining workplace
Operation Technician (Former Employee) - Leicester - 16 March 2022
Corrupt and sly management from top to bottom. You get promised the world and take on extra work to then be dropped. The companies only hope is a complete new team of management throughout. There is not one happy employee there
Pros
Free car parking
Cons
Not enough characters to express the cons

Enjoyed my time working here .
Fabrication Welder (Former Employee) - Larne, County Antrim - 10 March 2022
Being a contractor in Caterpillar you had zero benifits and job insecurity but there was always overtime ( irish pay rise ) . Generally employees are not thought of at all though the company would pretend you where of value. Like most companies, us and them relationships with floor workers and staff.

Do not become an engineer here if you like having fun at work.
Very dull and depressing atmosphere in the Engineering office, much better in purchasing, IT and finance. It is quite normal for engineers to be reprimanded for talking to a coworker. This is the general case though some departments are better than others. The highlight for me was meeting the factory workers and workshop staff. They were all very pleasant, kind and generally lovely to work with. Caterpillar is a large organisation with a very separated structure between product lines. Designing different products with standardised systems and components is almost impossible, forcing people to repeat jobs that needn’t be and fostering a culture of facelessness, where ignoring opportunities for collaboration is all too easy. Communication of ideas between product lines does not happen.
Pros
Stable, Easy to drift without much effort
Cons
Bad working culture, Slow to promote talent, Collaboration disincentivised

Slow burn at times, can get boring
Manufacturing Operator (Current Employee) - Desford, Leicestershire - 20 January 2022
It is really boring work if you want diversity within the day, this is not for you, it is the same task on a short takt time every 12 minuets for 9 hours if that sounds good to you then you would be perfect in this place. The people are genuinely nice and its a good working environment its just not for me personally.

Terrible

Work here for 12 months and the manager could never make their mind up on anything. Tasks and goals changed daily. Really disorganised for a multi national company

Inept management, surprised the whole place hasn't shut yet.
Fitter (Former Employee) - Larne, County Antrim - 1 January 2022
Worked there for 11 years, the only good thing was some of the people I worked with. Too many chiefs, who constantly worked against each other. It started out as a good job, but went way down hill over the years.

Great Safety Culture
Assembly and Test Specialist (Former Employee) - Larne - 20 November 2021
Safety is taken seriously at this company with a drive to succeed. As always though poor management seeking results due to failed procedures or processes can lead to the disregard of this excellent safety culture that has been procured.
Pros
Challenging work
Cons
Short breaks, unrealistic goals set my management
