Not enough pay to pay your way

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
As above , you’ve got to work more or less non stop and take every job that gets sent to you even if it’s a £5 job for 5-10 mile trip but you only get paid one way so it your pocket that pays for the fuel. Having you own van helps but wear and tare is NOT included in your running costs per job

Pros

None

Cons

You MUST work ALL the hours in a day to make it worth your while

Low paid courier work

Lucky to get 50p per mile, some work at 43p per mile. Cost of fuel has gone up and yet price per mile stays the same. Can deliver all over mainland UK but for pittance.Would not recommend and will not be working for them again.End up put of pocket to deliver one parcel and they call and try make out you are doing them a favour by earning nothing.

Pros

None

Cons

Low price per mile, no guarantee of work.

Don't work for them, you won't earn anything

Worst company to work with. management are a joke. They expect you to do a job which could be a 50 miles and pay you £19 for it. If you say no, they wil get funny and won't offer you work for rest of the week.

Pros

None

Cons

Pay is shocking, don't waste you time

A really bad place to work - Drivers are being exploited!!!

I have been working for Citysprint for 6 months now, the pay is horrendous. I have no idea how anyone can feed their families with the pay. The hours aren't too bad, some long hours but it seems fair.. however the pay is so terrible, when you deduct fuel, you have literally done the job for free. The controllers in the office are horrible people, they definitely will not give you jobs if you upset them. They are rude and selfish, expect drivers to always help them out and work like a dog with no pay and they have no idea that us drivers are working hard, trying to feed our young children. This company is simply exploiting us drivers so the big people can make money.

Pros

You work on your own.

Cons

No pay and unethical people in the office.

Awful pay

I have worked with this company for over a year. Started off well enough but now I seem to struggle to make ends meat. Far too many dead miles. Avoid at all costs please. You will end up travelling the length of the country for 45p per mile with no return work. If you want to earn even a basic living do not join city sprint. After you pay for your van, tax and insurance you will have little left. They advertise £600-£700 per week average. It is less than half of that mostly

Pros

Very little

Cons

Poor poor pay

Very up and down regarding work

Started off well very busy and good money but after the pandemic went quiet then started missing days out then very low job rates and the favourites seem to be earning all the money they still advertise you can have regular routes earn between £600-£1000 a week that’s not happening now for a lot of us so be careful if leaving anywhere guaranteeing you regular work

Pros

When busy great

Cons

No work which is getting more frequent and they don’t seem to want to get you any other work

Rates of pay

are nothing like told at application stage, very little work available and when you get it, you work for less than minimum wage. No communication as to work availability

Pros

none

Cons

not much work and low pid

I've worked at worse places

I worked at Birmingham branch for a couple of years and in that time I did ok for myself, I was lucky to get on one of the regular contracts which kept me fairly busy, without it I had to scrap with others for what was available, the controller's do a fantastic job trying to keep everyone happy and trying to be fair, I was lucky getting the odd backload but to be honest ran back empty, if I was to give a figure on my earnings I would say over 2 years I earned 50k, but expenses had to come out, fuel, van costs and insurance.Would I go back?, probably would because, I've worked at worse places.

Pros

Good team in office.

Cons

If I was to be critical, probably to many drivers.

Citysprint

They will use you and take advantage of you, pay is absolutely poor, they make you drive like a donkey, sometimes they book you a shift and you relay on it but by the time your reach your pick up location they tell you the job has been cancelled and the don't pay anything, you end up wasting your time and money for nothing. When I say poor, it means really poor!

Flexible and loyalty rewarded

A job where you can earn a good salary if you are willing to work long hours. Work and life balance needs attention. Helpful team if you face problem for example if you find yourself without a vehicle due to mechanical problems. Also flexible with hours if you have childcare commitments. A good team in the office at plympton

Bunch of crooks

Dreadful company they promise the earth at the interview but you land up losing money with dead mileage all the time. They'll quote you one price for a job then pay you way under that. The only people who make any money are managements pets. You would make more flipping burgers at the local kebab shop. If you value your mental health DO NOT WORK FOR THESE SCUMBAGS. Be warned

Poor management styles

No direction from Management given. Training not structured with good people coaching and development for staff. Staff benefits mentioned but not implemented.

Appalling company.

City Sprint's business model relies on controllers getting drivers to undertake work for the lowest price possible thus pitching employees against one another. You can of course attempt to negotiate better rates than the 35p per mile which I've frequently been offered, but do so too often and you will start to see work offers drying up. As others have mentioned, much of City Sprint's contract work is very poorly paid, but in order to receive the better jobs you have to accept these. But the truth of the matter is that even these good jobs fall very short of what could be deemed acceptable. So if working for less than the national MINIMUM wage for 12hrs a day whilst paying for your own vehicle costs sounds appealing, this is definitely the job for you!

Pros

Flexibility

Cons

Pay per job / hours

Don’t rent van ! 1000£/ month + congestion + petrol....and more

Do NOT hire a van try to work at CitySprint! You won’t make the money! Was working 10-12 hours per day, there were days when I would make 60 £ , after paying for van and gas and all else, I would go home with 13£! So yeah, unless you have your own van, forget it!
