To begin with, I must admit, I kind of fell into my role at the Co-op: a community based job that involves working with local charities and causes. However, it was the best decision I've ever made! The salary and benefits are great and everyone is so helpful and friendly! This job has allowed me to thrive and my team have helped me realise my potential. I would definitely recommend working at the Co-op!! My role allows me to do what I love, which is working with charities to make a difference in my area, and makes me feel very accomplished.

Most of the staff are good people and are good to work with. However, there are also quite a few members of staff who are deceitful and will try paint a bad picture of you to manager.

If you want to do the job of five others in 8 hours, this is the job for you. This job is OK if you want to be a CTM and stay a CTM. Any position from Team leader and up is just a con.Nothing is ever good enough for co-op. No matter how hard you work (even sometimes for free) you’re always being told that you must improve on KPIs or something else insignificant. No support from higher management (area managers and beyond). Co-op claim to care about your mental health and well-being, but they do not.
Pros
10% discount
Cons
Long unpaid hours

This may just be the store I’m working at but here goes.• management who frequently put you on 10pm finishes to then start at 6am. Not just once in a blue moon.. most weeks.• management who don’t seem to care if you have a social life or not.. frequently just being on lates only.. no mix of shifts..• management who barely train staff with their online learning as well as basic on job training.• shifts are often left one on one with a duty manager and CSA. Often left feeling very unsafe and unhappy being left alone. 2 staff members are expected to man the store.. work the stock.. face up ect as well as prevent theft. Doesn’t happen.I was happy when I first started working here but my opinion has very quickly changed.
Pros
Staff discount..
Cons
Long hours, short staffed and underpaid. Stressful

I love working at my local co-op, management are fair and staff are lovely, very flexible special if you have children, it’s lovely meeting new people, it’s a fast paced company but you learn how to deal with it. Definitely recommend working here

Well. You work a lot here and most of the time, they expect you to work half the delivery yourself whilst half the staff go out to have a cigarette. Beware if you take on some extra hours because they will then constantly ask you to do extra hours and take over someone's shift, and will complain when you turn it down. You can also be kept standing on the till all day and staff take forever to take you off for a break, or even to go to the toilet. Your preferred hours will not be taken into account, unless you are a parent. They don't care about your wellbeing and will try and force you and blackmail you into coming back to work, even during time you've booked off. Can be fun if you manage to make friends but just beware that management are pretty shoddy and only care about sales and will have a go at you if you even make 1p under your target... Also don't work here if you have any type of disability because they do not care and will pressure you with a tonne of work, regardless
Pros
Staff discount.
Cons
Management don't care. Staff don't listen and take advantage of you.

Constantly cutting labour hours. Company think running a store 1 on 1 is acceptable, then AM complains things are not done. Everyday is a struggle. Unnecessary pressure is piled onto TL and above. If you have an amazing talent of plucking time out of nowhere to get things done, then this job is for you. Managers work differently in every store, ive been lucky in my career to work with some great people. Company likes to promote how great they are with staff and community but they really are not!
Pros
20% Discount, 2% cash back, flexible working times
Cons
Poor training, poor understanding of store roles, stop gap staff

Great team, always there to help each other out. Great putting you at ease when new starters. Never pushed you to learn everything all at once. All aspects of the role was explained ample times, so you knew what you were doing, but someone was just a call away, if you needed help. Fab bunch of people to work with. X
Pros
Staff Benefits off the company.
Cons
Early starts

It could have been a lovely place to work of everything is not run politically and by favouritism by the managers. Inequality thrives in there and this is due to the managers employed.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Everything except pay

My first two years were great, given opportunities to learn, advance and grow in the job. Third year new management team, things went down hill in a big way. They showed no interest in anything that was going on, nor did they help anyone to progress(unless it benefited them). The team i worked with were great, teams leaders awesome and it was fun to work there, customers knew you and it was like one big disfunctional family.
Pros
Staff discount, pay
Cons

Co op was lovely to begin with. Until you realise they’re all related or been friends for 20+ years. They all gang up on you make you feel worthless and severely stressed. Rules for one and rules for another. Young kids loosing there tempers at work smashing the outdoor door. If you stick up for one of the customers. Your toast!! The main manager if she don’t like you the whole team won’t and will make it impossible to stay on.
Pros
Free hot water
Cons
Stressful and long hours and stay backs
