Be prepared for lodging away
I spent nearly 5 years working for Colas as a Freight Train driver, until I injured my back and had to take early retirement. In my time there I enjoyed driving the locomotives. The salary was fair for the type of work. Some of the shifts were long, and didn't help when you had to drive home after finishing.

Signed a legal non disclosure document on redundancy Oct 2019, so limited as to what can be opinionated. Days at work were varied and changeable and I learnt many attributes and skills to train and OTM planning and the vagaries of NROL and PPS. The hardest part was keeping up with constant change and amendments and little or no communication to be sure of final accepted plans. Workplace culture was individual.
