Indeed featured review

Positives: Weekly pay, Some co-workers, Some residents, Paid breaks. Negative: Nobody care about how hard you work and how much value you bring in the company, you are just a number on the paper and nothing more.

Just okay

Very high staff turnover. Management needs reassessing greatly and most staff members are highly unapproachable and rude. Pros are the pay and free meals.

Autocratic and micromanaging , best avoided

I should have listened to former staff, however I gave them a try to make my own mind up.The care staff work very hard and are lovely and caring to the residents. Unfortunately there is a but, the nurses are micromanaged and it is extremely evident there is a toxic blame culture. There is no genuine interest or care in how the nurses are feeling in their job, clinical leads/ management very autocratic in their style. They are not interested in hearing any concerns that you may have., because (they don’t exist and you are exaggerating) That for me was particularly eye opening and concerning. I would be very careful if stepping over to work for this company if you have a PIN number to protect.

Official response from Colten Care

10 November 2023
Thank you for the recognition of the hard work of our care teams, and we’re sorry to hear how you feel. We work hard to ensure all our staff feel valued for the amazing care they give to our residents. We recently hosted another Colten Clinical Excellence Workshop, open to all Colten Care nurses to recognise the hard work each nurse undertakes and to support our embedded culture of continual learning and development. We had more than 1,200 years of nurse experience in the room and the feeling was hugely positive. Nurses expressed how they felt valued, listened to and recognised for the work they do, supported by the extended management teams. It is a shame you could not have been part of the day, but we wish you all the best for the future.

Care companion volunteering opportunity

Court Lodge Care Home is an amazing place to work! The supportive team and positive atmosphere make it an exceptionally rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Friendly home

A well run home and opportunity to progress. Generally there's good team work. Forward thinking in dementia care and the training was realistic and refreshing

Ok to work

Nice colleagues, free lunches, management could be more responsive, more willing to solve problems. Overall, ok to work, induction academy is good. Unfortunately, reality is different.

Productive, great team work.

Brookview is a brilliant nursing home, always learning new skills. Each day is different and the team always pulled together. The hardest part of the job was staffing levels at times.

Toxic blame culture

Hard working staff reduced to tears often. Very little transparency of expectations. Training poor, overlooked or just no time with immediate managers. Huge concerns regarding drug storage. I left due to poor management and the blame culture. Much room for improvement in all areas.

Physically demanding but good manager.

It was a physically demanding job but the manager was pro-active, good at solving problems and approachable. The company offered training program relevant to my role to ensure policies and procedures were adhered to.Most of the staff team were friendly and helpful to work alongside. My job role was faced paced and at times stressful if we were short staffed and the communication between departments wasn't great, other than that I enjoyed my time working for the company.

Pros

Free meal on duty and uniform

Cons

Long hours, physically demanding.

Productive and Fun Atmosphere

I have been working at Colten Care in their support centre, Colten House for around a year and a half. It is a great place to work with a collaborative, fun and professional environment. There are great development opportunities available through the Learning and Developing team. The office is a lovely space to work in and I always feel I have the right tools to work to the best of my ability. This is a great place to work and I always come home feeling like I’ve made a positive difference.

Pros

Lovely office space, great team, good company benefits

Cons

None!

Friendly and comfortable environment

I am very happy to be an Colton care employee. I got very flexible hours and shifts. They provided an outstanding induction to me. That makes me more knowledgeable about my work and how to care the residents and how look after my job. I was very exited to work in Colton care home after my induction.

Pros

Free lunch and stand home

Cons

Long hours

Very friendly, kind and welcoming

I haven’t actually started my job but i did this survey based off of the training i have had thus far. It is very enjoyable and very interactive which i wasn’t expecting! I was expecting to be talked to for hours however i was very wrong. The 10 of us all engaged with each other during activities and practical demonstration.

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Nothing!

Not good anymore

A beautiful place to work - right in the center of New Forest Park. The salary is very very poor- 10 pounds per hr. only. The housekeeping, and HCA staff are wonderful. They work do hard, and earn poor salary. Two more objections can be made- the nurses who are very rude, haughty and always have to have the last word. The second objection is that they employs mainly employees from one nation. Other employees don't like it at all.

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Very long hours, poor salary, rude nurses

Worse every year

I have mixed feelings about this place. More and more people complain about how they are treated by nurses, poor salary and that recently more and more people of a CERTAIN nationality are employed there. If you are of this nationality, it makes the recruitment process much easier. Unfortunately, this does not help the communication between employees... it only helps those who speak their language. Squeezing in new employees and cutting the hours of those who work here longer. You no longer have the chance to work overtime unless you are of THAT nationality. Sad

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Poor salary, no overtime
