hard work but fun and rewarding

if you can get your head into the right frame of mind this is a great job.some days are harder than others but rewarded well for hard work. some of the products are heavy but with a good second man it makes light work of them. would recommend this job if your not scared of a bit of graft. different routes make no two days the same and with an average 48 hours a week during busy periods.

Joke.

Haha where to start with this place ... You go out with some drivers that don't even eat all day because they want to get back ASAP ... They just live off water for 12 hours or have the odd chocolate bar ... Some of the drivers are great to go out with but some have disgusting attitudes towards work and yourself ... They cram your lorry to the maximum ... ! Open the back doors and something falls on you. Make you wait in the break room from 6AM then at 12PM they will call you and give you 15 deliverys ... After some time I gave that clipboard back and drove home and found another job ...

Awful place

Health & safety disaster waiting to happen. Driving regulations ignored, vehicles driven dangerously, loaded unsafely. 14 hour days no breaks, humping heavy items with no equipment. If all this sounds like fun then this is the job for you.

Stay well away

If you like to be bullied, over worked and under paid this is the perfect job for you. Long hours with no thanks. 6am start 9/10pm finish. 50/60+ hours per week. There is no training given you come in and just get put with a different driver every day. Stupid amounts of unnecessary paperwork to fill out some of it gets put in the bin it’s put in there daily pack to give the second man something to do, ringing customers at 6.30am which annoys a lot of people. You single handedly carry beds on your own so you have to be strong or get strong very quick. If you do arrive back from your run early they will make you go back out with extra deliveries. When you arrive at 6am and you wagon is not loaded, that’s not a problem they just make you load it, even tho it’s the job of the wear house. You get to handle people’s dirty old beds and mattresses covered in old bodily fluids with no PPE some people houses are covered in animal mess. You do get the odd nice customer the rest of them are horrible they spent thousands on buying a bed they think they can treat you like dirt. There is racism going on within this Dispach Centre, don’t tell anyone you will probably loose your job. Don’t trust the office with anything, make sure accidents are reported the office try and fob you off saying they don’t have time, just demand you won’t be leaving work until the accedident pack is filled out because you are screwed if you can’t work due to an injury no sick pay no compensation. When the wagon is loaded it’s not secure, drivers and drivers mates have had beds land on top of them, one lad suffered -

Pros

None

Cons

Office staff and too many accedents

Just did it for the money

I did this short stint job for 6 weeks in the summer I found the work rather boring however I was not there to gain experience. The only pro is I earned a reasonable amount of money in a short space of time.

The worst job I have ever had

Employed as a driver's mate. Typical day would involve coming in anywhere between 4:30am-6:00am and "finishing when the job was done". 12-15 hour days were common if you were out with an agency driver (who got paid hourly so wanted to stay out as long as possible). During my time there management were unhelpful, unsupportive and knowone seemed to have any idea what was going on. Some days you would wait for 3 hours (due to runs not being ready) and then have to do a full day's work. Overtime was non existent. Staff moral and attitude was always frustrating. Health and safety neglected. It took leaving this place to realise how it feels to be a valued employee.

Pros

Nothing, avoid at all costs

Cons

Long hours, poor management, poor planning, health and safety neglected

Decent

It was decent for the years at my job. However I feel it's time to move onwards after making good changes to the place and feel to try another challenge.

Pros

Good team

Cons

Not much room to progress

Long hours and heavy work

Best to look at Agency placement to get best financial reward as Agency drivers are paid by the hour whereas salaried drivers are not entitled to overtime, not unusual to do 13/15 hour days? Very enjoyable but heavy work. Enjoyed both the driving, nationwide as well as central London. Only reason for not continuing was due to demands of Kinship Care call on time.

Productive and fun place to work

A typical workday would involve the day to day running and overseeing of an experience and knowledgeable group of service advisors. It was an intense working environment with strict customer SLA's to be met.

Pros

Wonderful opportunity to learn from an experienced manager

Cons

Long hours and long commute

Great team

Great team to work with. Good hours, a lot of travelling if traffic in mornings and evenings. However made redundent due to role no longer required due to not enough work load for a team and also 2 managers

Productive

Can be a fun place to work. Can also get very face paced and pushed to a challenge. Overall not a bad company to work for, the management could be better though.

good squad to work with.

a typical day at work would involve emptying between 5 to 7 containers of customers goods. on backshift we would be loading vans and picking customer orders. i learned the importance of many warehouse procedures that i had not done before. the squads that you wok with are good the people that you work beside are friendly and the moral in it is normally high.

Pros

25% discount
