Just awful

For me i wanted this to be my forever career, I was so excited to get into the job role and learn and flourish. But it never happened. You are sold the dream on the interview, told you will be earning up to £30k a year! And it was so easy to make money. It’s not! The targets you have to hit to make money are very high ! You can work your behind off every day and not make any money. But the company will make money from you! Cold calling is involved daily, You are not an estate agent you sit in an office and just hammer the phone daily. And if you don’t get any appointments then you’re in trouble. You will hardly do viewings and they are done by a employee a on less money despite using the most fuel. The pay is awful. It’s not even minimum wage. Your commission tops it up. The job it’s self is highly stressful and they have no consideration for your health and well-being. Being told sick days are basically not allowed and your weak If you need them. Are then are told you’re not allowed to take a Lieu day so you work 10 hours a day 6 days a week. The management are so old school in their ways and think the best way to motivate people is to tell them off every morning then expect you to produce good numbers for them. Good work is not rewarded and senior members of staff will pass work off onto the juniors and expect them to know what to do. There is no training only training on how to sell and cold call. There is nothing on how to deal with solicitors, or sale progressions. You are a number not a human. I urge who is considering a role in this company to not. It’s completely ruined -

Awful

Terrible company to work for. You are literally just a number. Rediculous targets that can’t be met! They only care about figures! Poor management from head office.

One of the worst experiences of my entire life.

If you value your personal well-being and mental health you will steer clear of a workplace like this which has an unbelievable amount of 'take' and no where near enough 'give'. Selfish and irresponsible. Lazy beyond belief with a management team which couldn't run a bath let alone an agency. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. One word.. Depressing!

Awful company. Avoid like the plague.

Terrible company to work for. Promised the earth regarding pay but you never see any commission. Long hours including Saturdays and bank holidays with no time and a half for a bank holiday. Avoid working for this company. You are literally just a number. Rediculous targets that can’t be met! They only care about figures and exchanges so those higher up can get their fat bonuses!!

Fast paced - Good opportunities for progression

Opportunities for fast paced progression, working alongside great people. Good training opportunities across all levels, from trainee estate agent to management training programs and business development opportunities.

Would not recommend

Extremely low pay and everyone paid different. Senior management push you to breaking point with unrealistic targets and punish you if they are not met. no wonder the staff turnover is so high

Toxic, do not work here

Awful. Bad pay, bad environment, a terrible sense of favoritism. There's really quick turnover and no wonder! Overworked, underappreciated, and the managers I had were terrible. Lazy, or liars or just plain immature or inappropriate. My training was lackluster and the office was dingy and a mess. I did countless overtime hours when they were short of staff and then they tried to get out of paying me my overtime. I would never work or be involved with Connells ever again.

Pros

The work was interesting and challenging and I got on well with most of the staff

Cons

No appreciation or any benefits for the staff who actually deserve it

Progression

Great place to grow and make money as there us uncapped commission when it comes to selling properties. The stock is your prized possession no limits!

Awful

Do not even bother working for them. The staff turn over is enough to say don’t bother working for them. They do not care about their staff at all. The management are an embarrassment and they have no respect for anyone. Low pay and over worked. DO NOT BOTHER

Stressful and not treated with respect

Worst company I’ve ever worked for. You don’t realise how badly you are treated until you get a new job with employers who treat you with respect, something this company don’t know the meaning of. Low pay, high staff turn over, stressful, favouritism and being made to feel like an idiot on a daily basis, even when you’ve done nothing wrong. Made to feel guilty when you phone in sick, and then ignored for days when you get back. No consideration for their employee’s well-being.

By far the worst estate agency to work for especially in the South East

No training whatsoever, you're expected to go to branch day 1 with 0 sales experience and just learn on the job. Their idea of coaching is to just listen to other colleagues and hear what they're doing. The lowest possible salary offered across a ridiculous work week of week A 5 days week B 6 days Monday - Saturday so 50/60 hour weeks equalling a pay rate of about £3 an hour. You better hope you get put in a branch with lots of new homes to sell because that's all Connells can list and sell. Unless you are desperately trying to get into the estate agency world then please do yourself a favour and stay away!

Pros

Guaranteed way of getting an estate agent job because they are 100% desperate for employees

Cons

No work life balance as they expect you to work 50 then 60 hour weeks, sleazy greasy upper management, expects you to hit 100%+ of your targets with no training and no support, no lunch break either yet you work 10 hours a day every day

Extremely low salary for long hours. No life.

You work 8.30 until 6 with no lunch break and at the beginning of the year they make that 8am with no additional money. The managers are incompetent and the only ones that stay a while are ones that are terrible, they do nothing at all while their staff are working themselves silly. This company operates and leads with negative reinforcement and it truly truly is a horrible place to work. You will hate your life if you take a job here. If it's your first "proper" job you might stay longer because you have no comparable of good working conditions. Oh you're expected to stay quiet while we regularly break the law. Refusing viewings for properties that haven't even had an offer at market value because they're not using in house services.

Pros

A "proper" job. People will envy you being an estate agent.

Cons

Long hours. Negative environment. Incompetent branch managers.

Connells is great if your management

If you are anything lower than Junior Branch Manager then you are probably working for minimum wage. Your Commission will take directly out of your minimum wage top up, so you have to break out of that, so for the standard Negotiator you will need to earn 500 plus a month in commission to see anything above minimum wage. (a good month will earn you maybe 300) There have been no pay rises in Connells in the last 5 years all promotions are based purely out of necessity to keep people working at Connells. You will start before 8:30 in the morning and work till at least 18:00 Connells has a target driven work day that targets too much you will always fail at something. you will have no time for anything else and you will quickly work out why staff turnover is so high you will be over targeted underpaid and not be allowed to achieve anything meaningful until you are a branch manager and you will get to be branch manager as soon as someone quits so that shouldn't be too long. The People that you actually work with are great people and you will enjoy working with them Connells has great people, just a bad attitude to employee's

Pros

Its not actually a terrible place to work, Office based and clean.

Cons

Long Hours Far too Target driven you will never get much achieved

Not good

Long hours - 8.30 - 6 everyday and working Saturdays. Expect u to work through lunch breaks even though its unpaid, you are given £40 for the month to cover car expenses and thats it - no petrol money! Can't stress how bad this is. I was using a tank of fuel every week for work equalling to around 150/200 a month on petrol and as stated above are only given 40 a month and that's mainly for car maintenance costs Very low pay especially if under 25 years old, very male dominated 'lad culture', No overtime payments, most people on a 5.5 hour contract so work 6 days a week them 5 days ulturnatly, stressful environment, unpaid sick days, minimum holiday allowance- 21 days a year and usually have to work boxing day No formal training or help given. U learn as u go Management seem to have a lot of favourites and will only help those they like (usually men) to develop or train

Pros

Leave u to get on with it

Cons

Minimum wage! Long hours, unpaid lunch, no petrol allowance, very male dominated 'lad culture', low holiday

Avoid

Title says it all. Awful place to work, low morale throughout and very poor management. You get treated like a dog, and for good reason because dog food is all you’ll be able to afford. They will rope you in with a long contract so that it’s hard and very expensive to leave. No appreciation for your efforts whatsoever. The fact that they are hiring constantly says it all really… because they are losing staff by the second!

Pros

Leaving

Cons

Everything else

Would not recommend

make sure that you are being paid correct! They use commission to cover up paying less than minimum, also they kept my final kept my final pay. They penalised me for sickness, don’t pay sick pay, caused me a lot of anxiety, led to mental health breakdown

Pros

One or two managers make the job fun

Cons

Less than minimum wage, check contract! Don’t accept 3 months commission that they offer at the start, they will reclaim if you leave before 2 years

Worst place to work

Worst place you could work, they give you false promises and treat you like dirt. Management are poor, do nothing but gossip about workers & work culture is horrible. Only good thing about the job that it’s a Monday to Friday job. They manipulate you into thinking their way and take advantage. Management also have a wondering eye on women in the work place. Turnover is terrible

Cons

Everything in that place

Appalling culture and false promises

Shambolic management from the top down. False promises but once you’re in you realise why they have such a high turnover of staff. Shocking culture!!

Pros

None!

Cons

Pointless daily, weekly, monthly meetings! Constantly chased about unrealistic targets.
