A Company with ups and downs
Senior Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Falmouth, Cornwall - 1 September 2023
Cornwall Care was a company that had caring staff and some very good qualities, some management higher up did not share the same caring nature, but Cornwall Care have now been taken over by Sanctuary Care, too soon to say what it's like working for them, but will write a review in the future once I know.

Trevern care home is a great place to work, great managers that always listen to you, and if you need any help with anything they are more than happy too. Great atmosphere

Staff Nurse (Former Employee) - Cornwall - 18 April 2023
Money is poor. Staff treat you poorly. Managers are weak. You never feel welcome HCAs think they run the place and don’t speak to you with respect. Staff always outside smoking. Would never work for them again

Lacked organisation
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Drump road Redruth - 15 March 2023
Not very well run at time of working there. Lack of staff and training with certain residents. Long shifts patterns. Generally good staff and seniors Good to have seniors on to support team members and responsibility for the medication.
Pros
Certain food
Cons
Some shifts long hours and short staffed

Decent workplace
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - St. Austell, Cornwall - 2 March 2023
Staff, seniors, and management are brilliant and communicative. A parent company has taken over so I can't really say what it is like to work there currently.

Productive staff
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Camborne - 31 January 2023
Overall good colleagues but management were more engrossed with gossiping when having to call in sick due to mental health and having a doctors note was told to "man up"

Fantastic staff
Carer (Former Employee) - Cornwall - 26 December 2022
Fantastic team of care staff, domestics, kitchen, caretaker, management and activities. All there for the residents. Although hard at times its a job that is so rewarding.

Hard and Rewarding
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Launceston - 24 October 2022
There's an awful amount of pressure at times. Work/Life balance is difficult for working parents with young children. Pay is low and breaks are unpaid. Often short-staffed which increases pressure and workload. Slow to no progression. Underlying blame culture among all levels of staff. Some refuse to be accountable for their actions. This can create tension and a toxic atmosphere. There are of course some wonderful, helpful, honest and hardworking staff on the floor who will guarantee you a great shift. Among the senior staff and nurses, most are approachable with concerns and are willing to help out on the floor when possible. A small selection hide away in their office whenever meds are done and will speak to you in a condescending manner, they mostly won't hear your concerns or be deemed approachable. When short-staffed, you will likely be contacted on your days off and annual leave (I have experienced this and have been contacted on days off, annual leave and when sick with covid). OT rates not guaranteed when working extra shifts. No Xmas bonuses for care staff, just wine or chocolate. The rewarding part of the job is working with the residents, decent enough training and a great team.

The people and clients and wonderful
Support Worker (Former Employee) - St. Austell - 22 October 2022
It’s been a good stepping stone but communication between upper management and frontline staff often can leave a lot to be desired, a lot of internal change seems to be constantly occurring which can in turn be unnerving.

Hard work can be rewarding
Care Assistant (Current Employee) - St Ives - 7 October 2022
If you work in care you have to be good at your job and want to care for people and work hard care is not easy and is not the place for the lazy or uncaring that is a given.
Pros
Pick shifts flexibility
Cons
It's care care is hard work if you do it right

Friendly, rewarding but stressful fast paced workplace
Area Care Manager (Former Employee) - St. Austell - 22 September 2022
Loved working here for many years (2012-2018) so rewarding, and pay was the best in the area (at the time) . Community work was planned as best as possible keeping travel time down where possible. Promotion was great and everyone was given a fair opportunity. I enjoyed my promotion as manager for many years but towards the end of my time here above management are so lovely but became very clicky and unsupportive to you if you wasn't in the 'click' made me self doubt myself and i struggled mentally with the amount of work I was expected to do with budget cuts. I had alot of paperwork to complete but still had alot of community work to cover plus on call. My work life balance became none existence and felt guilty finishing work on time as had so much to do still so found my self doing my work at home of an evening unpaid. The company was a great place to work and had alot of opportunity and development training if you would like this. There is plenty of overtime for community staff, and flexi shifts for covering sickness and short staff shifts across all of Cornwall (Community and home shifts) Having not worked here for serval years the management has changed and I hope more budget has been giving to support staff better
Pros
Friendly staff, rewarding job role
Cons
Long hours

Undervalued and underpaid
Care Co-ordinator (Former Employee) - Liskeard - 2 August 2022
The care staff at cornwall care are all apleasure to work with. They put their all into the care they deliver but this is grossly over looked but senior management. They expect too much for very little return. Pay is poor and staff retention is at an all time low. The company has a lot of potential but has a poor reputation as an employer.

Unprofessional attitude from poorly trained management filters down across all tiers..
Peripatetic Chef (Current Employee) - Cornwall - 27 June 2022
Constant pressure is placed upon the carers and there' s no evidence of staff motivation or appreciation. Miserable atmosphere across many homes... needs to change...

Depressing place to work
Customer Relations Administrator (Former Employee) - Camborne - 1 June 2022
I did not have a good experience working there. The management was poor and I felt very unsupported and under valued. I moved on after working here for just a few months.

Undervalued and underpaid
Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Cornwall - 1 April 2022
You could move heaven and earth for Cornwall care and you wouldn't get anything in return. As a HCA in a home I find the environment is very toxic, some of the staff act like it's a playground and residents do not get the care they deserve and pay for. For a job that is so important we get paid the bare minimum and at this point it's not even worth the money anymore.

Poor Communication in a toxic environment
Support Office (Current Employee) - Truro - 6 March 2022
Sad to say that Cornwall Care really does not care. There are so many issues within this ‘charity’ that it is difficult to know where to begin. Some members in the support office are nasty, unprofessional and rude. You are not listened to and anything negative said will be your ‘goodbye and don’t come back’ ticket out. Safety concerns ignored, HR clueless and rude and communication within the organisation is non existent. A dictatorship may be a better way to explain how it is to work for Cornwall Care… Directions and decisions coming from those who have barely stepped foot in the care homes and therefore, have no idea. This has been clear through decisions that have been made and retracted. I have not spoken to one member of staff who is actually happy within Cornwall Care but are too nervous to speak up in fear of losing their job. The only reason staff stay is because they actually do care about their residents and love the job itself. A real shame.

Awful Care Company
Community Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Wadebridge - 20 February 2022
This is my own personal 100% honest review after working for this awful care company, sadly and unfortunately it’s a very toxic company that clearly does not care about their carers. Health and safety is definitely not taken seriously and you are not lead by example. The culture is a million miles away from a caring compassionate company. Business orientated. The work life balance is awful they pressure you to take extra shifts, overworked, under paid and pay is often wrong. High turn over of staff, pay does not reflect the responsibilities that you have on your shoulders or for the wear and tear on your own car, the millage at 35p is laughable. To sum this company up its very toxic, if you are expecting a caring and compassionate company forget it. All concerns raised were brushed under the carpet.
Pros
Lovely people in the community
Cons
To many to mention
