Brilliant time with them 6 yrs spent a lot on my training would go back tomorrow only criticism was if you have a degree your thought of as a better asset which is not always the case money was brilliant do your job and you'll get on
Not important enough if your not a superviser or have a degree
Costain was my most enjoyable time all my family have worked for costain some for most of their professional life.as a time honoured chain man to the engineer (brother)and tea boy to dad(SIte Manager) have had several years on and off sites in the Coventry site office.
Project depedant on time with no permancy
No sooner had I commenced than the Senior Director with overall responsibility for the business unit was raising the necessity for redundancies due to large losses on several projects. Within a month some staff were made redundant & others re-allocated to other Business units. There was no clear strategy to help the projects that losing money & unrealistic views on recovery of the losses & time scales to do so. Also unrealistic views & timescales put in place to investigate what was going wrong & how to address these major issues. This led to a very stressful working environment with constant meetings at different locations which involved substantial amounts of travelling, early starts & late finishes.
Salary was competitive
Long hours, lots of travelling, stress, poor senior management
I worked for costain for 6 years and found the work hard at times but wages never wrong and fair. Good communications between manager to employees. Travel all around country but get lodge if away
Agency work until full time comes up
Costain are a company with opportunities all over the country and the culture was always to train and develop their people. Staff were deployed to areas that they requested and had choice with subsistence and travel cover being easily applied for and provided once their initial project came to an end.

Great people to work with
I worked as a contractor at a location in Scotland. I found Costain to be a good employer. But would have liked to extend my time with them. I don’t think that there was enough effort in place to find me another position within the company
Reasonable rate of pay
No continuity of employment

Is Indeed your favorite place to learn about companies?
Costain are a fantastic company to work for, I spent 4 wonderful years with them. Always ready to train, educate and support you. Stay away from the highways sector, the superintendent is a very horrible man and very controlling
Excellent training program
Too many People trying to make a name for themselves
Costain is a good company to work for. The pay is good and there are some fantastic professional people working there. There is plenty of room for development but there are instances of bullying which is dealt with slowly but the bully always remains in their jobs. there are a few social climbers but overall its ok.
Every day was different and whilst I worked with a good team it could be stressful some days. My manager was amazing, very helpful, great training provided to learn how the site worked quickly and I even won an employee award being condemned as an asset to the project.
Work hard and do other people’s jobs as well as your own and never ever complain or your marked a trouble maker.
Good company good ethics on paper however does not take real notice of workers situations most of the time. Good with healthcare schemes but time off given to meet appointments not equal,
Do not always get paid correctly or on time
Not only do they treat staff appallingly, they force people to leave, people that have been there for years. The company have been through their 3rd/4th round of redundancies over the past couple of years, so I can’t see them surviving much longer. I believe the CEO left in spring 2019 too, which doesn’t say much, does it? If your face doesn’t fit, they’re simply not interested.
