Good place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Good place to work. My suggestion would be to increase salaries especially during the cost of living crisis, and maybe offer more flexibility around coming into the office for people that have kids etc

One of the best places I’ve ever worked

Absolutely love my role within countrywide. The team is by far the best part of working here. The workload is intense but extremely rewarding. Would recommend this role to anyone.

A lovely place to work

I have been working for Countrywide since April 2022 and I absolutely love working here. The people make it an amazing place to work. We are all like a little family here. I thoroughly recommend working for this company.

Cons

Fun and productive place to work

I love my job as a property manager. Every day is different and varied this job isnt repetitive in the least every call is different and a learning curve there is a lot of support from staff and management everyone helps each other we have and enjoy a laugh and I can honestly say I feel valued in my role as a property manager with the company

Great Team

The team that I worked in was amazing. If you did your job, higher management left you alone. Fantastic training provided. At some stages, it's dog eat dog to try and get in favour with higher management.

Pros

My direct team bonding

Cons

Deceitful colleagues.

Really enjoyed my time at Countrywide

Its not the easier of jobs but its rewarding. Helping someone struggling without heating or needs locks changing can be a challenge but super rewarding and positive when you make that person's day.Good training programme and plenty of support during training. It can be competitive but I enjoyed that aspect as it drove me to work harder and smarter.

Pros

Nice office, always clean, Plenty of space in cafeteria for lunch and good facilities, Local Shops and cafes are good and offer good variety on your usual sandwiches.

Cons

Long hours but that's to be expected in a customer service role, Hour lunch can be a pro or a con.

Suffocating workplace environment. Picked on and decision making was derided.

Worked at Countrywide in Annesley, Nottinghamshire as a property manager, dealing with inbound tenant and landlord queries, liaising with estate agents and tradesmen to action repairs etc. First few weeks were OK when shadowing a colleague I was taking over from. After that you are expected to deal with everything yourself and I found that tough. My confidence took a battering when I was called out by management in front of the office for being too empathetic with an inbound call from a tenant (What I was doing well I was doing too well?) What I did not do well was met with open exasperation and was made to feel stupid. I'd like to say that was unintentional on the behalf of the manager who done this however, I seen several instances of fellow colleagues being belittled publicly. Mental health of several colleagues suffered due to the heavy workload and of the 20 people I worked with 8 have left. To be replaced by 5... There was hope when Connells acquired the Countrywide brand that conditions would improve with their experience and knowledge to filter down but this has not happened and instead they have renamed the job role and stripped the necessity to study for industry qualifications rendering you unqualified on paper to join another company in the same field. Something I probably would not do as I now work a stress free blue collar role paying five grand a year more with less hours. I miss my wonderful colleagues from there and that's the best I can say about working there. If you want poor wages and a stressful unrewarding career sign up now, I hear there is always -

Pros

The drive home.

Cons

Wages are national minimum, Workload structure is not set out and you're not assisted in organising it.

Toxic Work Environment

There is not a low enough number for the way in which I would rate Countrywide as a company. This companies toxicity begins from the top and infects all those whom are senseless enough to continue working for them. The management have no consideration for the staff and their welfare, from the heavy work load which is thrown onto them instantly to the lack of consideration for individuals mental health/health issues. Working in house at Countrywide is one of the most horrific environments I have been situated in, the atmosphere and poor attitude from the management is reflected on the staffs lack of motivation within the office. The workload to wage ratio is appalling for the amount of work which you are expected to carry out for such little money. Overall, an extremely poor company to work for. Avoid at all cost.

Pros

Leaving the company.

Cons

Everything.

Toxic environment

Toxic bullying environment. Management enjoys gossiping about others. Incredibly high staff turnover with roles not being filled once people have left. The job itself could be good, but management have let this down. Management needs intensive training on how to speak to other humans

Toxic, bullying culture

I enjoyed working at Countrywide for the first few months until I noticed some toxic behaviours. This soon turned into bullying and harassment which made my work extremely hard as I struggled to focus on my duties. Management disregard all complaints unless it concerns one of their favoured employees. Myself and my team mates had to go off sick due to mental stress caused by this toxic environment. I had a really negative experience here. The work load and expectations are high while the wages barely hit minimum. If all this wasn’t enough, the clients take great pleasure in verbally abusing you and threatening to kill you.

Pros

None

Cons

Management, workload, salary

Their reputation as a poor employer proceeds them with good reason.

Countrywide want the world and and want pay peanuts for it. Upper Management will lies and break promises. Lower management are incompetent and don’t know the laws regarding Lettings. The branch’s i was in there was a bullying of other staff members You will have to fight to get a basic on or above minimum wageab

Pros

Half price ARLA

Cons

Pay, culture, hours

Most enjoyable part

Getting to know landlords and tenants building rapport. The enjoyment of making someone’s day knowing their property is in full management with no worries.

People are great to work with, but the management are very average

The people you work with are some of the best people you ever do. I found that you were only ever put on development courses for promotion because of "who you knew" not "what you've accomplished or done". Because of this, I felt that management had one rule for one person, another for everyone else. People would in trouble, yet if someone else did the same thing, nothing would be said or done. Overall, the job is enjoyable when the teams are filled with people, however the turnaround in staff was worrying and it meant more experienced property managers like myself had to then carry the team with 3 times the work load as everyone else, and it was not distributed fairly. The head of the department at the time, I felt was fair & I felt I was listened to mostly, but I appreciate that any of the decisions she made were not her doing, but the people above her.

Mentally draining and utterly soul destroying

Management have a do as I say not as I do attitude. Staff are treated like infants and micro managed. Forget trying to get a day annual leave approved. If you are not in favour you won't get it. Poisonous, poorly paid and worst place I have ever worked. Do not work here

The worse company

This is one of the most unorganised underpaying companies, I have ever worked for the staff turn over says it's self. Stay away from countrywide/HML they have even stopped offering company cars and don't offer mileage for your own car

Working as a Property manager

The wages are not great. The job is quite thankless but you do get job satisfaction, sometimes. You have to be pretty resilient and open minded. It's like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. I love my job, but hate Marmite lol

Lovely workplace and good staff

I have worked for my current position for just under 2 years. I have worked as a property manager throughout my time at Abbotts covering a vast area from Cambridge to my current area of Cromer. My primary role at the moment is to deal with all maintenance, gas safeties and deposits in my area. During my time at Abbotts I have learnt how to balance my workload effectively as well as strong organisation skills to make sure work is done promptly and all parties are kept up to date. As a lot of my work is dealt with over the phone I have also learnt how to delicate effectively to make sure that things are done efficiently and in the best interest of the client.

Room for Improvement

Countrywide is a typical corporate. There is minimal information available for the cogs of the organisation. No progression available. Poor colleagues and a hindrance on the rest are left to continue to infect the rest. Line managers are supportive as much as they can be however cost cutting has left good employees looking elaewhere. Vacated roles are left vacant due to poor salary and poor practices. No support, no incentive, no progression, no training, poorly rewarded. Good starter role

Awful

No real progression and training is debatable..! Over worked and under paid. No structure in management and no support from managers.
