Depends on where you work in the hospital

Admin and reception roles are great with lovely, supportive staff. You need to be a strong character to work on the wards and not easily phased or offended.

not worth it for the wage

Don't feel supported, some good staff and nurses but the management don't care and never leave the office to help but will always blame you if things go wrong. Food is terrible too

Fun and rewarding

Fantastic place to work rewarding supporting individuals with their life’s .long days however more days off work unlike the 9-5 job great team work and management

could be fun and challenging

A fun place and diverse place to work, can be very challenging most times due to the nature of the Job, service users could be nice but also difficult to work with.

Fun and rewarding career

Although the days are long, having the extra day or 2 off in the week compared to a 9-5 job is so worth it. If you’re a people person, this job is great, whenever you don’t have allocated tasks you can spend time in the communal areas chatting away to the service users. The nurses and management are so supportive and make you feel like part of the team straight away!

Amazing Service and Team

I had the pleasure of being able to work at Beacon House for 2 months, the environment at Beacon House is amazing, the staff are so welcoming and all work together in supporting each other, they provide the best care for the service users and always ensure they are promoting the service users to live an independent life which is full of activities and things they enjoy. The management team are also really supportive and i couldn't thank either of them enough for the support they gave to me in the short time that i was there! I would happily come back and work within the service and company again and would highly recommend to friends and family to apply for any roles available especially at Beacon House.

Pros

Working with a fantastic team

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of Beacon House. Although your time at the service was brief we are delighted that you found the staff team welcoming and the management team so supportive. We will forward your feedback on to the management team at the service and wish you all the best in your future career.

Just plain awful

Toxic work culture, depressing exterior and interior, rubbish facilities for staff. Small staff room not suitable for the high volume of workers. Wards are cramped with limited work space. Anyone that is focussing on the work at hand, instead of gossiping will be looked down upon. Professionally is not rewarded.Additionally the cramped office conditions exacerbate things as they get used as social spaces and work desks are occupied as social spaces meaning work gets delayed and professionals get distracted, leading to errors.I could talk about this for days, but ultimately staff wellbeing, work culture and retention of employees leads to better patient care. That is what management fail to acknowledge and deal with.

Worst place I have ever worked

I worked here previously in 2019-2020, I have never come across a workplace that is so unprofessional. Staff are either related or dating, which makes the place very uncomfortable to work, someone said if they don’t like your face then you know about it. I can confirm this is absolutely true and I haven’t never been so uncomfortable at a job. I was glad to see the back of the place, definitely have their favourites and unfortunately, this is only if you’re family or dating. A lot of gossiping about others too. Just overall not a nice place to work and very unprofessional. Let’s hope it’s improved but from what I gather, it hasn’t.

Pros

Walking out the door at the end of the shift

Cons

Entering the place

Rewarding but could be better structured.

It’s such a Rewarding job but it’s badly managed and insufficiently paid. As a result staff retention is low and the quality of the staff coming through is low. Leading to staff burnout and reduced quality of care.

Excellent place to work. It feels like a family buisness!

I am in Cygnet Colchester. Well supported by both the management and staff, good place for patients. I have learned a whole lot about caring for patients with mental health, learning disability, acute and rehabilitation units. The staff are very friendly, and the management have a good culture oflooking after their patients with a lot of activities in place and they support their staff. The only down side is that there is no much shift for people wanting to work as bank staff.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Lack of shifts for Bank staff.

Awful place to work

Thrown straight into traumatic events with little to no support afterwards. Most senior management have attitude problems and the company seem to employ anyone meaning other staff can be put into dangerous situations. Long hours normally over your contracted but they refuse to pay the overtime.
