High workload, but can be rewarding
Accuracy Checking Technician (Current Employee) - Colchester - 23 August 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedStressful job, patients are the worst part, if you get a good team you can have a fun worklife. Difficult for trainees as your expected to pick up the slack from a more qualified team member who has left, but overall not a bad place to work
Pros

Brilliant.
Pharmacy Assistant/Dispenser (Former Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 20 September 2023
Day Lewis Plc is a fantastic company to work for. Working with a small team every day you really feel the family-like values Day Lewis Plc wants. Working in a pharmacy can be stressful during busy periods however Store 242 had a team-player approach. No man left behind and someone by your side to offer support. You are valued as a person and rewarded for great work - not something you find many companies offering.

I don't want to work anywhere else
Relief Pharmacist (Current Employee) - Norfolk - 10 September 2023
If there is a better company to work for, I am not aware of that. Common sense wins out as far as management is concerned on how they run things. Generally no serious toxicity and colleagues are reasonable people. I'm staying right where I am.

Horrific place to work avoid
Pharmacy Technician (Former Employee) - Eastbourne, East Sussex - 31 July 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing comes to mind would avoid this company at all cost What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Lack of communication with managers to staff, no call backs no follow ups nothing just left with no answers to any questions 24/7 Poor pay What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Toxic, unless you are a buddy to the manager or she picks you as her favourite you will not get anywhere. Staff who work hard are punished while the staff who do nothing are thought the most of. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful, left alone to do all the work while others chat about having tea and biscuits while your left serving customers and sorting prescriptions

Very busy workplace
Pharmacist (Current Employee) - Ellesmere Port, Cheshire - 9 July 2023
One of the best companies I have worked for so far. The store is very busy but the staffing levels are good. The colleagues are well trained, really hardworking and productive. There is plenty of support from the management and even though there are performance targets, the approach is very humane and we are always trying to find ways to make things achievable.

Understaffed and underpaid
Pharmacy Dispenser (Former Employee) - Newbury, Berkshire - 5 July 2023
Although the team I worked with were great the frequent absence of superior management - regional and area managers during difficult/peak times made communication and resolution of growing problems impossible. Many branches struggled with being severely understaffed yet targets were made clear to increase flow of customers. Despite it being a “family business” myself and many of the colleagues I worked with felt sentiment this never translated to the bottom. The Christmas bonus was nice but I think everyone would’ve appreciated being paid a more decent wage for the other 90% of the year. Progression was offered but was incredibly difficult to facilitate training or even ask for help given the hectic and understaffed nature of the stores. Myself and the majority of the team I worked with have since left which is unfortunately a result of this. Differences in pay for staff with the same level of experience in the same role was evident, they told staff members to keep salaries private and clearly this was why. Colleague were encouraged in interviews to request a raise if they felt this was acceptable of their efforts but when it was simply to request equal pay to their colleagues it was apparently too much to ask. It was a shame to leave but given all of the above its not really a surprise so many have.
Pros
Christmas bonus
Cons
Understaffed and under appreciated

Bad pay, false “no blame culture”
Trainee Pharmacy Dispenser (Former Employee) - Rye, East Sussex - 4 July 2023
Practically minimum wage but think they are doing you a favour by giving you a couple of pence more. Sadly not a great environment to work in! Dispensers are blamed even beyond the final check! You may get holiday you may not
Pros
Few pence over minimum wage
Cons
Salty environment

Best community pharmacy I’ve worked for
Accuracy Checking Technician (Current Employee) - Poole, Dorset - 28 June 2023
Any community pharmacy can have its good and bad days but Day Lewis reward their staff for their hard work with a yearly bonus which is always extremely good (depending on how well your pharmacy has performed). They have also introduced an enhanced maternity package which is great for a family run business. I worked for Boots before and it is a massive difference in every way so would definitely recommend the jump if you are coming from there!

Jobs at Day Lewis Pharmacy
Toxic environment
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) - Ipswich, Suffolk - 5 June 2023
Toxic environment, selfish colleagues, no team work environment, always on the edge, robotic system of work. No rights as an employee. No time to eat a sandwich peacefully in 15 minutes of break. if anyone would respect themselves won't work there, as its worthless.
Pros
non
Cons
long hours, little break, unhelpful colleagues

Job was great, the public were not
Medical Counter Assistant (Former Employee) - Harwich - 3 May 2023
Says it all in the title, I loved the job but the public were self entitled. My manager worked really well with me. But the people above them weren't good. No encouragement from above. And basic pay no matter the loyalty you've given to them.
Pros
Learning opportunities
Cons
Senior management couldn't care less

Fun workplace
Pharmacy Assistant (NHS) (Former Employee) - London - 29 April 2023
It was lovely working there and everyone was so lovely and welcoming. I enjoyed helping all the customers and being able to talk to so many different people. You do get those customers that are rude and can be quite nasty but the nice ones override the bad.
Pros
Friends and great atmosphere
Cons
Have to stand all day

Part of a family
Trainee Technician (Former Employee) - Merstham, Surrey - 29 March 2023
I have worked for Day Lewis now for 8 years. I have had the opportunity to progress up in my job from shop assistant to a fully qualified technician (currently on course), with full support. I was able to work and train on the job. The company really help with a work/life ratio especially when my children were little. I felt that I have been seen as an individual. The owners of the company play a big hands on roll in the business and offer all their staff full support in all areas. They are a large progressing company with the personal approach of a small company that take care of their staff. I looked forward to going to work everyday and it has been a pleasure working for them.
Pros
Pension and opportunities for continued learning

Target Driven
Pharmacy Technician (Current Employee) - Cornwall - 26 March 2023
Focused more on targets then on staff well being. Advertise that they are a family oriented company when they are just a family run company. Not great

Good company
Pharmacy Assistant (Former Employee) - Southampton - 22 March 2023
Day Lewis are a good company to work for. Company is treated like one big family, but pay could be improved for longer serving colleagues. New starters can negotiate higher pay to what someone working there 5+ years already gets which is a bit unfair.
Pros
Management
Cons
Salary

Hardwork
Very busy branch and constantly understaffed, don't think it's any different to other branches as people are realising community pharmacy is underpaid with no reward so all the good staff and technicians are leaving for other roles out of community
Pros
Worked with some good people before they all left
Cons
Never enough staff and underpaid for responsibility

Started off great, ruined after lockdown
Dispensing Assistant (Former Employee) - Ipswich - 4 March 2023
There is a distinct lack of care from middle management. Serious concerns have been raised and swept under the carpet. No staff care. Staff are pushed to breaking point. Constant abuse from customers. Workload unmanageable for the number of staff.
Pros
Discount
Cons
Everything else.
