It’s ok
Care Worker (Current Employee) - Derby, Derbyshire - 22 August 2023
Shift patterns aren’t family friendly at all. Everyone is placed on a 3 week rolling rota of mornings 7-3 , lates 2-10 and nights 10pm- 7am. No give at all on this from management- Not ideal. Can be very physically demanding, with little to no support sometimes. Not much thanks from any senior management either- also no real career progression.

Good setting for work experience
Library Assistant (Former Employee) - Sandiacre, Derbyshire - 13 July 2023
Brilliant co-workers at my work experience whom allowed me to reach my potential. I was able to use the library dewey decimal system and it was interesting seeing how a library runs internally.

Jobs at Derbyshire County Council
Friendly workplace
Advanced Practitioner (Former Employee) - Matlock, Derbyshire - 12 April 2023
I worked as an advanced practitioner in Derbyshire County Council as a new recruit to work on a brand new project which requires collaboration with different colleagues. Most colleagues were friendly and supportive. The office locates in Matlock which is a lovely market town in the Peak District. The only down side I could think of is the unclear organisation structure sometimes you cannot reach out for someone you need because there is no clear directory of the other staff members' position, title and duty.

Supportive management
Social Worker (Former Employee) - Derby, Derbyshire - 7 April 2023
Social work is a challenging and stressful job. When I was in the team in Derbyshire I always felt I had complete backing from my manager. Having worked elsewhere since and not had that experience I cannot stress how important it is. It’s for this reason I’ve chosen to return to Derbyshire. The camaraderie from colleagues is also essential and something else that Derbyshire has to offer !

Excellent leadership
Finance Assistant (Former Employee) - Matlock, Derbyshire - 4 April 2023
Worked here on a temporary contract during the summer of Covid. Excellent leadership from the managers. A really calm and relaxed environment without diminishing the importance of what we were doing.

Teaching
Teacher (Current Employee) - Derbyshire - 11 March 2023
Working for DCC and being employed by a school are two different things. It’s hard to rate DCC directly against your role as a teacher as many of the ratings questions relate to the school itself and of course, every school is different.
Pros
Holidays, training, every day is different
Cons
Workload, stress, pressure

Case Assessor- fixed term :(
Assessor (Former Employee) - Derbyshire - 1 March 2023
This department needs some involvement. No proper set standards. Alot made up as they go along. No growth in the department unless you want to be a Team Leader. Fixed term contracts, no job security. Very little support if service users verbally abuse you . The department is just too busy. Its a production line . Constantly micro managed - making sure you were hitting so many applications per day . Alot of unnecessary nit picking over small things . Very hierarchy feel. Very large staff turnover...someone would walk out ..then A temp in their place within days . Just a number - not valued . Left before my fixed term contract due to depression. Other staff members doing same job lovely . I'm glad they were supportive.
Pros
Wfh but even that grew grim
Cons
Lack of hands on management. Soulless office . Grim

Stable
Teaching Assistant (Current Employee) - Chesterfield, Derbyshire - 16 February 2023
Stable job security. Great pension. Wages are well below the average for the job roles. Good sick pay and benefits. Good HR team. A lot of jobs expect extra work outside of your duties and working hours.
