I used to love working at my garden centre (when it was a Wyevale and subsequently bought by Dobbies). Since the Scottish firm acquired the store, the morale and management has taken a turn for the worse. Dobbies will strip your creativity and personality in return for a neutral store that looks bleak and unloved.
Also, did I mention that the management were awful? Each day that passes you become more and more demotivated. Being paid over Ā£3K less each year compared to colleges who have the same job because of oneās age, even when I do two employeeās jobs is wrong and diminishing Not only this, but the poor response & attitudes by our Head-Office is even worse; they still havenāt set up my pension and do near-to-nothing for staff enquiries! An email was sent to the employee of interest and only got a response over two months later. The store and functionality of our rotas havenāt improved since the store was acquired from Wyevale, with the customersā attitudes and loyalty wearing thin due to the slow, manic restorations that take place. Thereās nowhere for staff to relax and eat during breaks due to the staff kitchenās ceiling regularly collapsing and leaking when it rains outside. Nothing will get done soon, and to say that Dobbies treat all staff equal & fair is false and misleading. If you donāt mind fulfilling two or three employeesā jobs simultaneously everyday, while being paid Ā£370 a month less than slightly older colleagues, this is the job for you! š
Lack of staff meant you are on your own a lot of the time, so didn't always look forward to going in
Management tend to hide in the office shop floor is run by staff who know more about whats going on
Had enough so left, would never recommend to anyone.
Find somewhere else, this is an awful company who do not care about its people. I left because of the bullying culture from senior levels down. There are better jobs out there.
I dread going to work because I know I can't do anything to please the management
Dread going there, constant moaning by senior visitors and wanting things moved all the time. They really need to try working in stores. The regional managers never speak to us minions unless you are in a certain clique.
Dread it as you are always expected to do more and more with no thanks. Itās slave labour in bad conditions.
Hate it with as the managers donāt care at all about the staff. They belittle and bully all the time.
