Career Progression and CPD Continuing Professional Development is an integral part of every healthcare professional’s working life. This is an applied learning environment: you will attend training events that enhance your learning and development and the work you do as a Disability Assessor, making sure you are always up to date on the PIP assessment process. You will be provided with an on-going programme of CPD modules that will give you the latest knowledge and training to support your role as a Disability Assessor. There are currently 40 training modules, most of which can be completed online. Keeping up to date with the in-house programme will support your future revalidation process. What You'll Be Doing

As a Disability Assessor, you will combine compassion and insight to understand the complex and unique requirements of people with health conditions and disabilities. While this role isn’t clinical or therapeutic in nature, you will utilise your healthcare experience and clinical expertise to empathise with individuals and build a picture of their condition. As a Disability Assessor, you will: Interview people to understand their condition and how it impacts on their day-to-day lives Review and understand supporting evidence from other experts Produce and present comprehensive structured and impartial reports to the DWP and DfC. Assessments The aim of a face-to-face assessment is to gather sufficient information about how an individual’s disability affects their daily life, and to use this information to create a report for the DWP or DfC. This isn’t a full physical examination or an attempt to diagnose symptoms. As a Disability Assessor, you will combine dignity, respect and medical experience to build a picture of an individual’s health condition and the impact it has on their daily life. Reports As a Disability Assessor you might be working at an assessment centre or conducting assessments in people’s homes. You will have a schedule of assessments each week and will be expected to complete this schedule along with the associated assessment reports. You will be provided with intensive training, on-going support and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure each and every report meets the required standards.

You will: Be a fully qualified healthcare professional – we currently recruit nurses, occupational therapists, paramedics and physiotherapists Have a minimum of two years’ post-qualification experience and hold full registration with HCPC or NMC Be experienced in a customer-facing assessment role Have sound written communication skills and report-writing experience Be able to manage conversations and ask questions effectively Be confident working with computers Hold a full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle You may have some community experience, but this isn’t essential As a Disability Assessor, you will receive the training and ongoing support you need to excel in the role. What is PIP?

The Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit for people aged from 16 to 64 with long-term health conditions or disability. Replacing the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), PIP is a benefit for people with a long-term health condition or impairment, whether physical, sensory, mental, cognitive, intellectual, or any combination of these. It is paid to make a contribution to the extra costs that disabled people may face, and is intended to help them lead full, active and independent lives. We are recruiting Disability Assessors for Capita. As a Disability Assessor, you will carry out PIP assessments for Capita on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in Wales, the West Midlands and the East Midlands, and the Department for Communities (DfC) in Northern Ireland. Disability Assessors are qualified healthcare professionals who have been specially trained to carry out PIP Assessments and who have been approved by the DWP/DfC. PIP gives individuals the opportunity to have a one-to-one discussion with a healthcare professional in their own home or at an assessment centre. These visits aren’t about trying to diagnose symptoms; rather, it is an opportunity for individuals to outline the specific impact that their condition has on their daily life. Following on from this assessment, you will create a tailored report for the DWP or the DfC. Capita have worked in the healthcare sector for over 20 years using their expertise and talent to improve the quality, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of a range of services. We are proud to be working with Capita in the delivery of the Personal Independence Payment assessments. About Disability Assessment PIP Assessments are focused on how an individual’s condition impacts their daily life, rather than the health conditions themselves. This is because no two individual’s circumstances are the same and an illness may affect different people in different ways. To reflect this, our values are empathy, professionalism and dignity, and our Disability Assessors strive to deliver the best assessment process that they can. PIP in England and Wales In Wales, the West Midlands and the East Midlands, you will carry out PIP assessments for Capita on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions. PIP in Northern Ireland In Northern Ireland, you will carry out PIP assessments for Capita on behalf of the Department for Communities. PIP replaced the DLA in Northern Ireland in June 2016 and Capita are helping with the on-going transition. All new claimants and anyone coming to the end of their DLA benefits will now be applying for PIP.
