Demanding but fair pay

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Job can be demanding and busy. Some franchises expect to much of you as a driverSELF EMPLOYED so you can work as you wish but it seems this only applied to weekends as they require you to work in the week..

Bad bad and more badness

Just don’t bother if I knew how it is I would have run 10 miles in the opposite direction. Super heavy boxes 45mins in the morning to load your van with over 200boxes

Dont bother

Start at 05.00 finish at 18006 days a week for approximately £350 a week prior to deduction Mislaid a parcel, was notified 2 weeks later, no evidence shown to prove it but was stopped over £200 from wages. Absolutely terible firm to work for. Shame as the job is a good job, but run by management that have no idea what so ever on the logistics of road haulage other than what they have read in a book.

Pros

Its work

Cons

To many to list

Long hours hard work

I was a salaried driver at a satellite franchise. The franchise owner was a great boss and made a mundane repetitive job bearable. It’s hard work for not much money

Avoid working as a driver!

Long working hours, waste of time at the depot waiting for your route and searching around parcels. Unorganized stressful and low payment in comparison to the competitors. Avoid at any cost.

Just awful place to work

Worked here for a few months until I had enough of the constant moving of the goalposts. Told you are doing x amount of drops and then they pile a load of collections on all for a wage which is below minimum if you work out how long you are at work. Every morning late leaving and every night nobody to help you unload the van which can have anything between 150 to 500 parcels or bags. Its an absolute joke of a place

Pros

None

Cons

below minimum wage if you work it out

Terrible

The route I worked on was owned by a crooked family, absolutely anyone can buy a route and run it, be careful of the people you work for if working in the Dagenham depot

It was a great place to work many years ago, now they bend you over and put it in dry.

Don't bother it's city link waiting to happen. Targets are now unreasonable and should you fail a call your stood down the following day. It's all service providers now, the amount of brown envelopes changing hands between them and management must be incredible.

Welcome in busy time!

Not secure job at all, they are happy to let you work 5 or 6 days a week in busy period(xmas)and after you'll be lucky if you do couple days a week! Such selfish people!!Stay away.

Stressful and unpredictable.

I'll start with how they don't consider the fact you might not be able to use a toilet all day and for women at a certain time of the month... this isn't good. If you're given a route in the middle of no where there's no toilets or signal half the time. Also, if you're given a large van then you are likely to have some large, heavy, difficult parcels. Again, not suitable for some women. Some people have smaller vans so you'd be lucky to have one of those which means you get an easier route and smaller parcels. There is pressure to keep to time scales and it's easy to get lost and behind on time if you have a country side route. Once you become behind there's pressure and stress to catch up. You don't know your route or how many parcels you have until the morning you arrive so therefore can't plan anything after work and finish time is unpredictable. Also, on two occasions I turned up to then be sent home an hour later unpaid because there was 'no route'.

Pros

Some of the other drivers are really nice and helpful. Uniform provided.

Cons

Long days if you have a big van, Problems can arise anytime which makes your day even longer, Unpredictability of finish time.

Don't Do It

They will promise you the world when your in your interview saying you can earn £3-4000 a month. This is correct until they remove the ridiculous fees for a van, Insurance, Fee for your scanner and a management fee even the the management is shocking. Some morning I would come in as directed by management and was sent home as there was no route for me wasting both my time and money as you pay for your fuel.

Pros

None

Cons

Management treat you like dirt, No route guarantee, 4 Day week, High charges for Van/ Insurance, Management not supportive

Haha an utter joke..

Brand new vans treated with no respect at all. Often left disgusting by other drivers.. Management have no ideas with regards to planning. Often drivers were sent out on routes never trained on.

Pros

Great training by a few employees..

Cons

Long hours.. bad management..

Toxic work environment. Service providers rip off drivers and the company dont value any of their workers

Onyl care about themselves, dont care about employees, if you like long hours and urinating in bottles as you have very little time. Then this job is for you.! All the salary they provide is before tax, you have to pay your own. The company make up the rules as they go along and most of the service providers take some of your money..dont work here avoid at all costs

Pros

Customers on the road

Cons

Everything else

Cons

Constantly on the go

The turn over of staff @ DPD is unreal and now I know why. I started with 13 other people in 2019 and by 2020 there was only 4 of us left and by 2021 there was only 2 me and someone else. So how best to explain other than this, from the moment you log in on your Saturn device in the mornings you have 60 minutes to find, scan and number all your parcels then load them into your van in an order which you can understand for the day's shift ahead and if you don't you could be stood down the next day or have a warning and be told you need to hurry up as it's not acceptable (in other words no work for you the next day due to this failure) no joke...If you lease a vehicle from DPD it costs £2000 when you start your ODF upfront as a deposit just incase of damage to the vehicle, but it breaks down... well that another thing, your expected to pay more money out of your own pocket even though you already pay them well over £1000 a month already (btw that doesn't include the VAT or the fuel costs for the lease of the vehicle) your exspected to replace the vehicle as they don't provide replacement vehicles whilst your one is being repaired (which I found out after taking the lease out I wasn't told about this before hand) as it's your responsibility to make sure you can still cover your route the next or same day.The best part of the day is when your out of the depot and on the open road doing what you do best delivering parcels of all sorts of shapes and sizes and weights regardless of the state of the boxes or parcels.

Pros

Not many pros other than, being your own boss but then that doesn't always mean it's better so really no pros

Cons

Long hours, no family life, lease of a vehicle is a joke!
