fairly paid but hard job

Indeed featured review

Not bad but needs improvements. Micromanaging at dpd is the norm. Also managers confused and don’t seem to know what’s going on. The is no progression but overall can put head down

Only work if desperate for cash.

This is my experience in my depo. Other depos may not have the same issues. Poor management... Have no clue what's even going on half the time. Management have favourites which constantly slack off and have ten 5/10 minutes cigarette breaks excluding their actual break. Management even joins them and will treat you differently to favourites. I copied the behaviour of the favourites and immediately got called lazy and a bad worker. Lower Management are also on a power trip and will give you written warnings which they will force you to sign even if their reasoning is over exaggerated or unnecessary. They make their own rules up to suit themselves. One manager will tell you to do one thing and another manager will tell you another. Which ever you chose your in trouble. Have a lack of staff constantly and are always complaining about it. They bring agency people in which literally leave after a day.

Pros

I guess £10 ph to lift some boxes

Cons

Poor management

Physically demanding and stressful

worked there for two month, good money but ultimately terrible for mental health, physical stress was through the roof all day so not for me, do not work there unless you have endurance of a mule

Horrid

Just no not worth your time at all, unless you feel like pushing your body a stupendous amount when there aren’t many cages available, and especially if your smaller like me some of the boxes literally weigh half my weight and are my size but they show no regard, toilet breaks are non existent so don’t even expect one

Good place to work

I worked night before they moved to Glenfield and it was a good place to work.My manager and 2ic were very helpful most kf the time when it came to my job and cheered me up when times were really pressured. The only problem was I was homeless at the time and already worked for them on agency for about a year, was also looking for a place to live and needed a contracted job so I could look for places. I asked for my contract and filled in and application form which never got handed in.When it came to my CRB check they was trying to get me to pay for it even though it was the agencies responsibility to do so. I refused to pay and that was when they let me go.Also got a call off my agency (pertemps) getting shamed saying how much I disappointed them and let them down even though they were the company that let me down.

Pros

Lots of things to learn, and different types of different work to do. The staff is relaxed too.

Cons

Bit of a walk to smoking area and no hot food options other than vending machines

A very fast paced work environment.

A very fast paced work environment. Not bad for me because I have the strength and knowledge around jobs like this, however I won’t recommend the job for anyone who is not strong enough, easily gets emotional and has health conditions.

Ok

Managers with no skills. No flt drivers unless they actually wanted to do it. Hours kept getting cut with more work coming in so managers could get a bonus basically the place was run by kids who have been alive less than I've been working in warehouses

The team are great.

Very fast paced, can sometimes be busier than usual but that’s all part of the parcel. The employees are very friendly and got along with everyone. Build friendships with colleagues.

Pros

Burger van occasionally

Cons

Long hours

hard work if you are scared off hard work then this place is not for you see

i worked here for 4 years worked my way up the ladder started on agency after 3 months was offered a permanent job and within 3 years i was offered aa job as acting shift manager and assistant shift manager its not a bad place to work the best time to work for dpd is during Christmas peak time the hours available are crazy and you can earn up to £500.00 a week just working in the warehouse but beware that during peak time you are required to work very long hours 13 hour plus shifts but once January arrives and peak is finished your hours and pay are cut drastically can be very hard work and not much time for a social life but the benefits outway the cons the managers are ok but can sometimes be very condescending towards you as they can get very stressed by unreasonable timelines and work loads .

Productive

Dpd is a place to work over and over again. A very organised working environment. Management very proactive. Ready to staff, full of team work. Perfect place to work.

Great workforce

Working in DPD was a great experience, you’ll need to have alot of stamina and wake up very early, you will wake up around 4-5am and finish at 12pm. You’ll be handling a lot of parcels, there could be over thousands however with a good team, it’ll be done in no time.

Pros

Short hours and morning shifts

Cons

Not enough hours.

Deadlines sometimes too much

Managers only concerned with their own roles and very unapproachable, sometimes working through break time to keep the line rolling causing many disagreement between the team
Was this review helpful?

Was ok

Busy place to work, heavy lifting. Long hours. Every one is friendly and willing to help. 1 brake for the whole shift unless there’s a delayed lorry.

Treated better here than at any other Job

I started working as a warehouse operative for after school, the wages were nothing special but the work wasn't very hard so it was fair. Wasn't many benefits for me but I assume it would be different for drivers and more important roles. I was alone in the back of lorries and stuff a lot so I can't really say I loved the work culture, but whenever I did need to talk to anyone, they were always nice and helpful, from everyone to my boss to the cleaners. Would recommend if you're open to some labour.
