Expectations to work through lunch & outwith the day/weekends & come in at school holidays , if you dont you are told your not a good teacher. bad morale. staff in tears tears daily.

Stressful job, but relatively well paid.

Well paid but could be stressful. I worked three shifts on and two off. There was plenty of time off with five weeks holiday and ten lieu days each year.

productive

Very difficult for a driver to get their holidays. Decent environment to work. Can be very clique and don't get involved with said clique. You can be moved between the Marchbanks and Baldovie depots. Hours are very good.

Your just a number

Dundee city council is well paid and has lots of advantages to offer its staff but its hard on the staff no one is important your just a number you get in trouble for the slightest thing even outside work when off duty as you have to represent the company in the care sector its only sscos that mattert they get away with a lot like speeking to residents like rubbish scos don't matter in any way only to take the blame when the sscos have messed up which has ruined a lot of people's careers and some life's I wouldn't even recommend putting a relative in one of the care homes as its not as safe as you think

Flexible working friendly

I feel Dundee City Council is very good for flexible working. I have now worked for them for 20 years therefore that must tell its own story. Every department is different.

Would rather not comment

Would rather not comment as my views may not be of any relevance. Each department is different however I feel that working for the council can lead to a lot of opportunities

Engaging and Informative

I was given the opportunity to have a work experience placement with the council during high school (reason being of the low salary mark since it was just a placement and was not paid for experience) and I can definitely say that it was worthwhile. All the members of staff were kind and hard-working. A typical day for me was meeting up with the members of staff in the morning, have a specific task to complete for the morning, lunch, another task in a different sector and give feedback to my mentor. I was able to learn what work actually goes into setting up the city's plans and how exactly they have to be undertaken, along with understanding why certain procedures have to be done in a certain way. The management was very kind to me and helped me to understand the specifics of the council. The hardest part of the job would probably be moving sectors with every other task with some only requiring me to move to a new office while others were on the other end of town. It could sometimes feel a bit disorienting. I enjoyed being able to see the intricate workings of he public council and essentially help out with upcoming projects.

Pros

Good experience for my university course

Good workplace but problematic

Very difficult to balance your life when working for the council as some of their services are 24 hours. Management care only about your performance and not about you. However the staff you work with are helpful compassionate and down to earth.

Enjoyable place to work

Good place to work with a good atmosphere Only thing i'd mark it down on is the job security, they tend to only really hand out year extensions instead of permanent contracts

Pros

Contriburatory pension scheme

Cons

Job security

Dundee city council are good company but working your way up is difficult unless you are related or in the know

We have a team of 5 workers which I have good communication and work experience with, there are eight residents we care for with varying packages of care in place. I have to wear a few hats at work dealing with meals, care, medication, disability, learning issues and communication difficulties, hearing and sight related issues. I work as part of a team but also loan working. I enjoy and do not find I get stressed with any part of the job relating to service user care, however we have a phone system in at the moment and this can be stressful in keeping to times usually because we are in the building family and friends will stop us and ask questions which can take up times but we are expected to ignore, we also will be called to do extra duties within the building with non service users and as they do not have scanning facility's it is not registered we have attended this is a bone of contention management are aware but no remedy or answer has been given as yet. I enjoy care and working with the elderly quite comical at times.

Pros

near me

Cons

shift pattern few long weeks
