Customer Service Assistant in Canterbury

Stressful and understaffed
Dunelm used to be an enjoyable company to work for, but the past couple of years has sent it downhill. There aren't enough members of staff to cover all shifts and departments, employees are treated unequally - some get to have multiple days off and short shifts every week whilst others are expected to have one (or none!) day off whilst working 40+ hours constantly. Customers frequently give staff verbal abuse and there is no support from management. There's also a significant lack of teamwork or trust. No-one is really happy to be there, so its not a particularly enjoyable environment. Management are also unapproachable and intimidating most of the time. The only good parts of the job are the salary and 15% discount.

Job
management were not very nice. But all the colleagues were lovely, the pay was good. It can be a very stressful when the store gets really busy and sometimes they get you stay 30 minutes + when the store has closed and no extra pay.

I loved working here
It’s a big place and it’s always busy, the job is very fast paced and stressful, but it’s worth it, staff end up feeling like family, and there’s always opportunities to climb the ladder.

Don’t work here
Although the staff members were nice, the managers were horrible and would just sit or stand around most of the time doing nothing unless someone was coming to view the store which was appalling and they would usually boss the staff around and were very demeaning. If you respect yourself enough… Don’t work here!
