Indeed featured review

Management are very hit and miss, if you enforce a policy with a customer and they ask to speak to the manager, they might come over and suddenly give in to the customer, leaving you the colleague looking stupid. They can be difficult but other times they can be quite good. It can be difficult to get time off, and you will get pressured into coming into work if you are trying to call in sick. As for anything else it is a fairly standard retail job, the pay is good, they claim it's the highest paying retailer in the area however they don't give you the hours for that to make a difference in your pay, the highest contract they seem to do now is 24 hours, maybe 30 if you're very luck.

Nothing to say

If you are struggling for money ....don't come Many times you come on work and there you stay just 2/4 hours and go back at home It's so quiet....If you want to make overtime, you can't, if they want you must be there 8 hours overtime, after tax just 40 pounds...It's OK?It's up to you

Work to your strengths

Management here is good (currently) manager is helpful and listens when you need it, is always willing to figure out solutions if you suddenly need time off/ in need of extra hours etc.. team leaders etc.. are great very helpful and hands on workers, most of them dont stand around doing nothing while you work. One team leader doesn't fit this description (currently).Colleagues are down to earth and it is easy to fit in as long as you're not too sensitive. It is a happy place to work and there is always a laugh to be had on the shop floor.Salary is good nothing wrong with itHardest part of the job is probably dealing with unfriendly customers, but theres always someone there to help and back you up, and theres clear guidelines in place which you can point out to these customers. Most enjoyable part of the job is when you have a tidy store and a warehouse with space in it.Can be quite stressful during sales or holidays because of how busy the store is and how full the warehouse is.

Stressful and understaffed

Dunelm used to be an enjoyable company to work for, but the past couple of years has sent it downhill. There aren't enough members of staff to cover all shifts and departments, employees are treated unequally - some get to have multiple days off and short shifts every week whilst others are expected to have one (or none!) day off whilst working 40+ hours constantly. Customers frequently give staff verbal abuse and there is no support from management. There's also a significant lack of teamwork or trust. No-one is really happy to be there, so its not a particularly enjoyable environment. Management are also unapproachable and intimidating most of the time. The only good parts of the job are the salary and 15% discount.

Enjoyed my time there.

Good job, manager was spot on, always try to give you the hours you want, staff were all pretty good in the main. Salary isn’t the best but plenty of hours if you want them.

Pros

Good manager, good work/life balance

Cons

Salary, weekend work.

Friendly and relaxed work environment

Amazing team of people to work with and a great company to work for, sociable work hours, unfortunately not enough hours to give their staff but a great part time job for someone.

A company that I really enjoy working for

I really enjoy working for Dunelm. First off, I feel valued by my colleagues and in return I really enjoy working with them, sharing ideas and working together to continuously improve. I feel colleagues are really engaged and enjoy working for us, and there really is a great culture here. Our colleague networks are fantastic safe spaces for people to share their experience, learn how to be better allies, and educate each other.

Pros

Hybrid working, culture, benefits

Cons

London office could do with some love, to bring it more in line with Syston

If Marmite was a job

I absolutely love working for Dunelm but it isn’t for everyone. It’s very challenging and stressful but there’s so much room for advancement. Work satisfaction is high and the team are brilliant. Retail is challenging and Dunelm want to be the best and therefore the challenge is high but so are the rewards. Good pay too compared to others and job security is very high

Pros

Good pay, benefits, great management

Cons

Retail customers 🙄

Toxic, horrible place to work!

Interview went well, got told i had the job straight away they just had to sort everything out. People that work there was lovely for about a month or two but then you see all there true colours and what they’re like. Horrible place to work, get told to do so many things at once, management aren’t the best when it comes to staff bullying you. Would NOT recommend working here! Pays not great either, you’re doing the same job as everyone else but get a lot less than everyone else, even if you do more than others. My contracted hours were supposed to be 8 hours a week i was going at least 30 hours a week, so when i had my holiday’s i didn’t get paid the right amount.

Avoid unless your a cyborg

Unless your a robot and can work a million miles an hour without toilet breaks and do not question management then your gonna love working here. Your a number and can be easily replaced.

Pros

Lol, next question

Cons

Management don't care about you and get bonuses for your work, No increased pay for hitting targets, no bonuses or pay increases for long standing colleagues, no promotions, No care for your mental state, your just a number

It's a retail Job. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

You are just are number to them. This business has got more and more corporate and moving away from a close knit family business. Now the executive board is I would say criminally hemorrhaging the company's profits. We work unconventional hours, and workload has only seemed to increase overy the years with more employees leaving by the year even though it's just as or even more busy than it used to be.Colleagues are usually very friendly but there is rarely any time to communicate or customers would be offended if you have a conversation in their presence.Customer service in an understaffed overworked shop is a nightmare. Even though you see none of the benefits of having management (could do job without managers or ceo) you find customers can talk to you as if you and dunelm are equals, "I always come here and your going to give me bad service now?!" So you become an overworked under appreciated scapegoat after working here.Too many chiefs, not enough workers. It's a nightmare trying to get holidays sorted in such conditions and my manager just waits until it's close to my requested holiday time to then say it's too late, even though I submitted it 3 weeks ago...

Pros

Staff discount

Cons

Too many to list for a minimum wage job
