Simple work but bad management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Work was simple enough to understand but the company hire everyone as temps, and promotions are seconded. The staff are nice enough, but you get the odd idiot. Some managers are too strict in terms of personal issues and wellbeing

Pros

Good location

Cons

School-like culture, Bad contracts

Friendly, good training

I stayed in the same department for 11 years as people friendly and good working conditions and times. I was trained in Excel and Word. Nice spacious comfortable offices. Restaurant on site along with break out areas.

really great place that im going to miss

loved this office, wonderful people and wonderful support for those looking to progress. hardest part of the job was often the sheer volume of work but we always managed to pull through. the most enjoyable was the team and how we all helped each other. the managers were amazing and very helpful and always pushed you to do better in your self. a typical day would be running the morning reports and allocations making sure that other teams had the work they needed, then upper management would be sent the reports when they were finished. then i would go about my daily tasks making sure all the information inputted was accurate and correct. whilst doing this i would monitor the mailboxes under my ownership and make sure they were dealt with in a timely manner. learnt alot at this place, new systems like SQL and SAP and also that i'm pretty good at training people and that i should believe in my skill sets more

Productive

I am the first point of contact when data errors and a member of the team responsible for managing database administrative tasks including backups, monitoring and scheduled tasking. Monitoring data quality by running reports and insuring errors are identified by extracting and producing accurate reports from database using SQL scripts

Productive & Keeping Busy

Typical day at work is to get in early, and start on my work that is allocated by my managers, I prioritise what need's to be completed by the end of the day and what can be completed after. Once all work is completed I'll ask if anything else needs to be done, as I like to keep busy. Also though out the day I answer calls, dealing with general queries, complaints and transferring calls as needed. I've learnt a new system working at EDF Energy - SAP, I've also learnt how to deal in different situations how to deal with problems. The management is very assertive, and clear of how they like to run things. My co-workers I've made very close relationship with, we all have a laugh, and occasionally go out and let off some steam. I wouldn't say I fine anything to challenging were I work, as I've managed to pick it up, but if I had to, I think it would be the deep investigation that we have to do, were we have to contact outside suppliers, and getting hold of them or a reply is rather challenging. However, the most enjoyable part of my job, is my colleagues, they lighten the mood of the day.

Pressured enviroment

My job is to analyze and identify any imbalances within customers' electricity consumption. I then have to fix any errors that have been spotted as well as deal with telephone call queries. The hardest part about my current job is the workload. Over the past few months reports that bring in the data have been changed in the terms of how they are run and our work load is double, sometimes triple the amount and the team as a whole are under a lot of stress ad pressure to get the work done as we have daily targets!! But we always manage to pull through as a team! The thing I enjoy most at work are my colleagues. Everyone is so kind and helpful.

Pros

Good team work, Supportive colleagues

Cons

Dis-organised, One half hour break throughout the whole days work, Different rules across the teams.

Progression

For those willing to put in the hard work required EDF Energy offers a great number of avenues to progress in, all while supplying a safe and positive working environment.

Very robotic

Trying so hard to create a professional atmosphere that trust is compromised. No mobile phone culture, only generic desk phones, half an hour lunch and an email system to sign in and out of work, feels like big brother is watching you. I had previous office experience in banking and the atmosphere was more professional but relaxed, such restrictions were not installed and there was more trust over your ability to get the work done.

Pros

leave half an hour early on friday. could choose to start at 8am or 9am

Cons

short lunch

nice place to work

typical days work would be input data onto the computer from paperwork and give suppliers information that was required. was also fun working with co workers as we was in a team of 14 and we all became good friends.
