Competitive

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
They run a competition.. if you sell anything tweed on a given day, you get a bonus... A bonus of nothing. There is also an online site available for no reason on one of the tills other than to waste time because the shop can't actually order you anything from it.

Pros

Bathroom breaks and a room to eat lunch

Cons

Terrible management training, Terrible support when complaining about lucid harassment from colleagues, Terrible policies and zero guidelines.

Great manager

Fantastic company to work for, feels like a big family in the Head office. Friendly faces always around for a chat. Manager offered many opportunities for progression and new courses to undertake

Working for the company

I was put into different areas of the company with no training, I have learning difficulties which they all knew about but I still had no support. I also found out that the true reason I was taken on was to just cover those that were taking holidays for those months. The reason they gave me and the head office was that I was not pulling my weight and being very difficult with staff and the public, I got a letter from head office saying that they will not take this any further as they wanted to prosecute me.

satisfying and enjoyed sorting the clothes

Enjoyed being there from day one when the shop opened, was hoping to be there to see it grow and thrive. Never bored, if there wasn't any customers I had to keep store clean and tidy, folding jumpers etc

Do not go near this company unless you want to work like an absolute dog and put up with a lot of abuse from the old miserable customers.

Horrible company to work for, you aren’t expected to have a life outside of work. Area manager is horrible at best. Very poorly paid managers, ended up on an hourly rate less than the supervisor. Shops smell musty and have mould growing throughout the stores.

True account of working at kernow mill

The people you work with are fantastic and you get really close to them . The company itselfThey really don’t care about the workers . When covid hit 5 of us had to go and straight away without anyHoliday pay or bonus or anything . Quite disgusting way of dealing with loyal and long time serving people .

Only work here if you hate yourself

No management, no training, just expected to get on with it. Told "do not contact the area manager". Ridiculous company, no overtime compensation. Ungrateful, money hungry company, treats you like a robot.

Poorly managed establishment falling to pieces

Managers are bullies to put it straight. Wondering round a shop floor, waiting for about 10 customers a day. Edinburgh woollen mill head office very poor, lots of favouritism for the managers who bully people. Name calling is looked past. You’re a favourite one day and the next everyone against you. Managers having a laugh while staff doing crate after crate of delivery late into the afternoon if not into the next day even though it had been delivered at 7am the day previously. Very low staff and poor staff retention. No wonder it has been shut down with horrendous sales and poor managers.

Pros

Occasionally get a weekend off

Cons

Bullies

Good set of colleagues, bad company values

My whole team got made redundant on the spot through a phone call during the coronavirus pandemic after we went out of our way for the company. Bad values and not a good company at all

Cons

Bad company values

not challenging enough

I loved the people I worked with at Edinburgh Woollen Mill, however I found the job very slow paced and not very challenging. A lot of the time there very little to do so I spent most of my time stood do nothing

Pros

Cons

Bad company

Pre covid the job was great, great head office support, great area manager support and most shops in area would support and help each other. On return to work after lockdown there is no support, area manager talks down to managers and staff and when you challenge and ask questions you are shot down. Shop teams in area no longer support and help each other, managers and staff are not getting the Information that is needed to help you run the store, you are left on your own and then get shouted at if it’s not right from area managers. Money is rubbish, lowest ever. My manager was getting 1p more than the supervisor.

Pros

Work hours

Cons

Bad area managers, no support, lone working. Bad pay.

Very good experience

I worked at Edinburgh woollen mills a while ago it was my second job in retail. I had a very good experience staff were nice my manager was really friendly helpful it was not overly fast paced your customer service skills did have to be of a very good standard we also had to approach customers asking if they needed any help that was the only down side I’m sure things have changed now. The environment in the shop was clean relaxed and I enjoyed working there very much I would definitely recommend

Pros

Part-time work available

Cons

I was not keen on the Uniform
