Featured review

Elysium Healthcare selected this as a representative review
I have worked here for nearly 5 months and I absolutely love working here. Staff are fab - nurses are fab - everyone gets stuck in and it's a real team effort .The only real issue here is the wage - it's just not enough for what we actually have to do on a day to day basis - the company gives us treats on some occasions, but I really think the wages could be better.

Pros

Excellent staff

Cons

Rubbish pay

Poor management and Poor Staff Dynamics

Recruitment process through Indeed quick and easy, interview okay and answered questions. Induction training okay, but sometimes lack of information including being asked to sign to say you understand policies and procedures without even being given them (tick box exercise for them).Lack of staff on the wards, agency and Bank staff try to do what is right but permanent staff just complain/moan about stuff even in front of the patients, shouting and swearing, lack professionalism and respect. Patients needs not always addressed due to poor staffing and lack of management. Blame culture and unwillingness to take responsibility when mistakes / omissions are made. Highly unprofessional staff who will happily complain but fail to follow their own procedures. Advise look elsewhere!

Pros

None

Cons

Unprofessional and extremely poor staff culture

Avoid Wellesley Hospital

Unfortunately Wellesley Hospital is one of the most toxic places I have ever worked. Very much a blame cultured environment. Management only worry about problems if CQC are visiting. Understaffed wards leave staff at risk of being attacked. You’re expected to have no breaks if short staffed, wages often wrong, lack of support for HCAs when issues occur. Expect to be treated with no respect especially from facilitating management staff. Avoid working here at all costs, this place will drain you.

Pros

Free parking

Cons

Lack of support. Bad communication. Low wage. Bad management

Frequently underpay your wages!!

I do actually enjoy the job and spending time with the patients but there is a serious problem going on with staffing. They can't seem to retain any permanent staff and staff turnover is massive. There is short staffing so you don't get your break then they cheekily don't pay you for your missed break and you have to chase them for monies owed. I'm also missing entire shift payments which I've had to chase if you have bills to pay and don't want to go to work for free I suggest looking for another employer.

Pros

Free food

Cons

Frequent underpayment of wages.

The finance department was very toxic.

Worked with some very nice people in the finance department at Borehamwood but equally some very toxic! All I can say is don’t apply for a job there at the head office unless your Friends or family of a fellow employee, your white British or a fellow native of the COF!!

Pros

Cost Towards lunch

Cons

No empathy

I love my job at Elysium

I’ve worked at Elysium for 3 years and throughly enjoy it. Everyone is friendly and supportive, and there’s a great culture of teamwork. Of course there are off days where things don’t go well and it can be long hours, but overall I love it here. I feel I’m making a real difference, am recognised for my efforts and have had so many opportunities to develop and enhance my career. I’ve grown so much as a person while I’ve been here. Management can be hit and miss, but generally they seem to care and try their best. It’s challenging, but that’s healthcare for you.

Pros

Culture, career development, the patients

Cons

Long hours, but rewarding which makes up for it

Awful place to work

The pay os awful for what you do and deal with. They stream the staff awfully. The staffing is so low it’s hard to work. They treat the HCA like they aren’t even people. Don’t work there

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

Long hours awful pay

The clinical side is stressful

If you work on the wards as an HCA or Nurse, you are under stress most of the time. Resilience is crucial. The shifts are very long. The patients can be very abusive, demanding and manipulative, and even violent at times, depending on which ward you work on. Free meals but quality not great. The hospital is constantly cutting costs, which always affects the job one way or another. You usually get support from your colleagues, and sometimes good teamwork.

Pros

Competitive salary and a location allowance, free parking and lots of overtime

Cons

Abuse from patients and cost cutting issues, divisions between departments

Loved working for Elysium

Really good company. Caring staff and managers. Only place I've ever worked where all the staff are happy to be there! Were understanding and flexible so as a working single mum, was really happy.

Pros

Free lunches, staff wellbeing

Stressful environment

Highly recommend not to work here, the staff are put on way too much, the nurses work against each other which adds stress to the residents and health cares due to lack of consistency. Confidentiality between management and staff is shocking. 1-1 time not being met, care plans not being followed, staff shortage is at an all time low and doesn’t seem to be improving despite staff recruitment. It use to have a lot of promise but has gone down hill massively over the past couple of years.

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

Poor management skills

Good to be in a clique

Working here is fine, it’s a lovely place to work once you get your feet on the ground although, if you don’t fit in you are certainly made aware of this. Everyone has a clique and if you don’t fit in you’re made to feel unwelcome and unwanted

Pros

Free lunches Free parking

Cons

Long shifts, short notice shift changes eg nights

Very poorly paid

Great place to work and is extremely rewarding but the pay is awful, could earn more stacking shelves at pound land. Understaffed most of the time, bank and agency staff make up half of the workforce and most are there just for the money. Don't always get breaks but money is still taken from pay. Permanent staff are helpful but too many cliques including management.

Pros

Free food.....if you get time to eat it!

Cons

Long hours, few or no breaks. Absolutely rubbish pay for the job and hours worked.

Avoid!

The worst place I have ever worked! It’s incredibly dangerous, due to staffing shortages and the service users’ behaviours. You can pull your alarm and no one will respond, leaving you to be attacked by the service users with no help. You only get support when you’re a new starter and after that you’re told to “just get on with it”. The management do not seem to care about the safety and mental/physical wellbeing of their staff, with issues being reported and no action being taken. You never end up getting the breaks you’re entitled to, but you automatically get them deducted from your wages. Sometimes you only get one 30 minute break in the entire shift (a result of staffing shortages). The only positive would be the other support workers, the majority of them are lovely and genuinely do care about the service users.

Pros

Free parking, good holiday allowances

Cons

No work-life balance, no support, stressful and demoralising

Underpaid and overworked, never enough staff because the hospital did not want to spend money

If you're interested in exploring mental healthcare, you'll definitely learn a lot. Good opportunity to book overtime shifts. Colleagues are amazing and you get a good sense of working in a team. They offer job vacancies internally.HOWEVERNever left on time because we were understaffed and could not finish notes on time. Felt like i was doing the job of 2-3 people at times. Often left on break late. Consistent understaffing created unsafe environment for patients and staff and affected quality of care. For example, if staff had to respond to an emergency, there would not be anyone available to take the rest of the patients for a walk or prepare the meal on time. Minimal support from management - they talk a big game about offering support but don't follow through. Only seemed to care about problems if they thought the CQC was going to come inspect. Inadequate induction training. Too many things expected of support workers with not enough time or staff to finish anything to a good standard. High-stress job. Free lunch offered is nice but not the best quality food, only cold sandwiches and unhealthy snacks so I didn't use it most the time. Had to redo trainings several times because paperwork got lost / poor communication among management. No structure or rules to manage the young people. Was required to work nights. Job did not match job description or expectations for the role.

Pros

Great team members, learn a lot, interact with patients, overtime opportunities

Cons

long hours, poor management, understaffed, overworked, poor communication

Incredibly stressful. But you’ll meet nice people.

Well you will often be understaffed. You’ll never ever get an actual break of any kind, merely smoking breaks or if you’re lucky 10 minutes to eat a plate of food. The pay is not too great considering the level behaviour you will have to work with, and occasionally the environment can be a little dangerous. Management never tend to act upon things brought up by staff, and very often your shift pattern will have you finishing at 10pm one night only to be back in at 7am the following day, which can wreck havoc on your mental health.

Pros

Staff are good people.

Cons

Shift pattern, wage, stress, understaffing
