Great coworkers and cool locations, but underpaid and overworked

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Everyone you work with is nice and enthusiastic, however we are constantly understaffed, and underpaid for the amount of work we do, especially considering you end up doing 3 jobs in 1 basically, being waiter, bartender and kitchen staff

Hi there - thanks for leaving your review. Your comment about being underpaid is concerning. if you wish, please contact me directly to discuss this confidentially. Thanks Mike (Recruitment Manager) mike.newman@everymangroup.com

Awful

Good team, horrible management. 0hr contract. Cancel shifts on the day. Yet expect you to drop everything and come help when they’re short staffed. Always short staffed yet will cancel your shifts. Customers are so arrogant too

Hi there - thanks for leaving your review - great to read positive comments! Al the best, Mike (Recruitment Manager)

Supportive environment to work in

Working in any hospitality brand is hard, but it helps when you are proud of the product. Guests do have high expectations as they're paying more tickets and sometimes it's hard to meet their expectations when it's busy, but the team is great and work hard to do there best. My managers are great and very supportive and have helped me develop and with issues outside of work aswell.Hours change a lot, and this is hard when you've bills to pay. Okay if you're part time or a student

Pros

Free tickets, food and drink while you are working

Cons

Busy environment

Thanks for leaving your review - it's great to read about the supportive environment you have in your venue. We know the availability of hours can be tough and we're constantly working on how we can lessen the impact of the quiet release periods. Thanks, Mike - Recruitment Manager

Nice benefits. But still typical hospitality.

It's a friendly company on the front. But very little attention paid to my complaints about the way things were being run. It's a fun product to offer, so customers were generally really amazed by it, which helped staff experience too. Classic hospitality though, late nights, haphazard shifts with late changes. Never enough hours on offer. Think they recruited too many people.

Pros

Free tickets whenever and 50% off food and drink.

Cons

Haphazard shift patterns

Great Teams, consistently understaffed

The discounts are great, and the work hours are pretty flexible. It's difficult to get enough hours to actually live off of, but depending on where you are it's possible to pick up more hours at other venues. Loved the teams I've worked with, and have made some good friends here. That said, the pay isn't great for the amount of work required and there's huge staffing problems across all venues which means that even though the work is straightforward, you are constantly overworked and underpaid.

Thanks for the review - it's great to read your comments about the teams you've worked in - they are lovely teams. We know the varying hours are difficult for people and we try our best to minimise the impact of the quiet periods. Thanks!

Fun

Pros - Strong rewards and benefits for all staff. Rewarding for managers and strong incentives in place.Cons - Work is based around admits and can vary week to week. Staffing levels and staff welfare can take a back seat at times. Understaffed for the level of quality needed to be delivered.

Thanks for the review - the level of admissions, especially when there isn't a "big" movie out, can make it challenging. We are constantly working on how we can lessen to impact by broadening the range of content we show. Thanks

Good perks and colleagues, rough hours

The staff tend to be young and friendly so the culture is nice. Big teams gives a variety to the shifts. There tends to be enough to do to keep busy and active. It’s nice to have a hospitality job where you make people really happy on a special day out. However the downside is that hours are sporadic, often cut or extended Without consent or fair notice. Managers can do little about this as it’s usually due to pressure from head office, so at times you feel very small and insignificant in the business. Pay is minimum wage with no tips.

Hi there - thanks for taking the time to leave your review - your positive comments are lovely to read. We know the availability of hours can be tough for our teams and we are constantly working on how we improve this through private hires, events, etc., but the nature of film releases means this is a constant challenge. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at mike.newman@everymangroup.com if you'd like to follow up on your review further. Thanks, Mike (Recruitment Manager)

Fun place to work

I currently work at Everyman and it is a fun place to work at, fitting into the team was very easy and makes us a very tight knit team. Hours are very good and they really work around your schedule!

Pros

Good work life balance, paid break, food on shift, amazing perks

Long Hours

The Benefits (e.g., free films, free shift meals, 50% of discount) were good but extreme hours (wanted to do 25hrs but often did much more!) and very unorganised schedule.

long hours poor pay no progression

minimum wage to start. say they are gonna pay you more in a meeting after 3 months which never comes. tremendously overworked for the wages and long late hours. positive staff and management but horrible hours and work for the pay

Pros

paid breaks

Cons

long unsocial hours

No investment in employees

The company does not care about its employees resulting in high staff turnover. Unrealistic budgets, understaffed, overworked employees, no appreciation of hard work. Real shame.

Takes over your life

Started at Everyman as a part timer due to being a full time student yet there is always pressure to do more hours as our site is often understaffed. Late nights, often denied holidays on weekends despite booking weeks in advance, not appreciated by managers and underpaid (less than London living wage). Feel like the company does not care about its employees during this cost of living crisis despite making a profit. However it is a very social environment and I have great co workers. Only benefits are the free films and 50% food and drinks.

Pros

Free films and 50% food and drink

Cons

Low Pay, Late Nights, Understaffing

Pay was awful and the only thing good was staff

My colleagues were amazing managers were awful would cut shifts if you didn’t do what you were told created a hierarchy and never promoted anyone the pay was 8.25 an hour Long hours no free food

Pros

Fellow colleagues not managers

Cons

Long hours

Good all round

Nice friendly people, flexible hours, work doesn’t get too intense though busy screens will keep you on your toes but once the screen has gon in there’ll often be down periods where everyone can recoup and get ready for the next

Sometimes fun mostly stressful

Managers get too stressed easily and will argue with you a lot.We have a thing called blue shifts where you have to wait until they message you on the day to see if your needed (sometimes 20 minutes before your shift). Most team members and team leaders are really fun to get along with.Definitely more of a student style job but stressful as.

Pros

Staff food, 50% off everything when you're not working, free unlimited film tickets.

Cons

Blue shifts. Managers. Shift consistency.

Don't work here

I was a part of the opening team for the Edinburgh site. The interview process went well, and was well planned and thought out. As was the initial training. That's all the good I can say about it apart from decent perks such as free films and discounted food and drink. However when I was brought on I was promised full time hours and yet was on the same 10 hour minimum contract as the rest. Red flag, I know. I stuck it out and it worked out all right for the first few weeks. And then with no discussion or explanation my hours dropped drastically, to where I was working roughly one shift a week. I brought up the issue and my concerns with the managers but was told to hold on as hours would increase during the year as we were in the quiet season. I then reached the point where it had been two weeks with no shifts. I talked to another employee who had worked at a previous site and they informed me that in the fine print of the contract, the minimum hours can be accrued over the year, not necessarily each week. None of this was explained to us and I know many other staff were affected similarly. I once again tried to talk to one of the managers but nothing came of it, and when I handed in my notice I was not met with any surprise and my two weeks notice went by with no more shifts. At this point I didn't even expect them. The work itself was alright though at times you could be hard pressed to find a manager when needed, especially near the end of the night. There was no further training or check ins and it felt rather like we had just been left to do it on our own without feedback. -

Pros

Staff discount

Cons

Everything about the job except the discounts

Poor management

Management are terrible here they are inconsiderate and have no respect for the staff who work so hard to keep the place running smooth the management are lazy and make the staff do all the work whilst they sit and chat or there on the phone, I have been working for this company for a short while and it hasn’t improved.

Fun place to work

People are amazing, hours can be abit up and down but beside that, it’s a good company. The kitchen is really good, fresh ingredients and clean.
