Challenging, fast-paced and often stressful, but a satisfying job with great students and colleagues

Exeter College can be a tough place to work at times, with low pay, overwork and lack of resources sometimes being an issue. However, colleagues are kind and supportive, the students are interesting to work with and the jobs here are generally satisfying if you enjoy working with young people. There is usually a lot of paperwork to manage, so a high level of organisation and dedication to the role is required.

Nice bunch of people but poor communication.

I feel like at the time I moved to Exeter college they were not ready to train me so I was left without minimum work to complete and no communication.

Pros

Flexible lunches and nice atmosphere

Cons

boring

Management are bullies and the whole ethos is uncaring towards staff.

Management are bullies. There is very little chance of progression. You are promised the chance for additional training to enhance your career but it never happens. When I accessed my own training, in my own time, I was told I couldn't use an unused room during my unpaid lunch break. You're basically treated like children who can't be trusted. When I had a minor injury as a student, the college nurse suggested calling an ambulance (which I declined as it wasn't an emergency) As an employee having chest pains, the first aider called the college nurse and was told but to call an ambulance but to have my partner collect me and drive me to the hospital. That's what they think of their staff

Pros

Other colleagues

Cons

Limited access to staff rooms, Low pay, Long unpaid lunch breaks, Not appreciated Overtime taken as time off in lieu but not allowed time off.
