EY Newcastle upon Tyne employee reviews

Smart Futures Intern in Newcastle upon Tyne
on 2 July 2022
Internship / Work Experience
Ernst and Young is an established, known accounting firm making it into the Big 4. Offers students a 1 week programme where they can gain insight into the services EY provide such as: audits, taxes, legal services etc. They pay you too and provide you the chance to gain a qualification in CMI at level 2. Great for those that have an interest within those fields.
Senior Full Stack Developer in Newcastle upon Tyne
on 4 November 2022
Trudging through the treacle of process and incompetant workers
It's been a very gruelling and unrewarding experience working in EY - managers only care about process and distributing blame and the myriad contractors I have to work with are highly unskilled and have terrible communication skills. This means if a contractor has a question, I'd provide a response to them, and if they don't understand the response, instead of saying so, they'd just ask the question again later on. It also means despit being a developer I often have much greater skill (and apparently experience) in these contractors' roles, be it UI/UX, QA or DevOps. We've had circumstances like a BA not knowing how to create User Stories and at one point we brought on a purported senior developer who didn't know what Git was!We have interminable meetings with huge numbers of people, all of whom with cameras off and muted. This makes it very difficult to remember you are on the call with humans, and means you're spending a lot of time making next to no progress. The software process is Wagile (read Waterfall) with sprints being static and designed to suit Scrum Masters and management rather than for the people they were created to assist: developers.Salary raises are effectively non-negotiable.

Personal Tax Assistant in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
on 11 September 2019
Nice colleagues but horrible managers
As a Personal Tax Assistant work effectively and manage my allocated portfolio of clients, helping to prepare their tax returns and ensuring that all tax processing is compliant with current Tax laws. I make sure build and manage relationships with my clients and colleagues, and providing support to other team members when necessary. I also deal with the HM Revenue offices and other third parties on behalf of my clients. I am expected to work collaboratively with people within my team and also in other EY offices, which can be in the U.K. or overseas.
