Pros: I love going in to the clients and building relationships with them and their families. Most of them are genuinely lovely and it's very rewarding, knowing that you help a variety of people in some way. My personal shift pattern is 4 on - 4 off, working splits, so I have a decent work life balance, with free time every afternoon, even on working days. Cons: The mileage we're covering at the moment is unsustainable. No one wants to be covering 50-70 miles daily and less so if they spend more time driving than actually caring. Also finding myself avoiding calls regularly as I know its going to be a call asking me to work overtime. This happens almost every shift pattern. There appears to have been many changes over the last few years and many of the staff are less than impressed with the results.

Great to work for

Great environment to work in regards to amenities and general vibe . Shift patterns a bit rubbish, unless you are friendly with seniors I did find the home very your face fits or it doesn't.

School cleaners are undervalued

This is not a job I would recommend if you want a easy life. You are treated like a nobody and are not given important information that would make your job easier. You are a skives

Relaxed and friendly environment

Never had a single issue working with Fife council. Management always helpful and very sociable hours that don’t contradict personal life. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to do an apprenticeship.

Ok if you do what you are told regardless if it is right or wrong

I thought this was a great place to work for years. Then when you dare to speak up about bad practice, be aware. They will cover up any wrong doing and you are on your own if you won’t abide to the cover up. Loads of unethical going’s on but no one is willing to speak up when the chips are down. I really don’t know how some people sleep at night.

Good work life balance.

It's a no bad workplace the 4 on 4 off gives me a decent work and home life balance with the option for overtime. The only issue I have is the salary for a refuse driver is pretty poor and you have to be with the company for five years to get full increments and a extra weeks holiday.

Pros

Good work life balance

Cons

Salary is poor

Work as a casual

Difficult at times to get shifts as a casual worker but the organisation is professional. The trading is excellent and new e-learning modules have to be done and most are mandatory.

Typically bureaucratic with cynical following of the letter of good practice without sincerity

Good for those who want to keep their head down and get paid. Not for someone who really wants to help FifersManagement cares more about how they appear than how they perform

A nice place to work at (Catering and Cleaning Assistant)

I started there from high school work experience but they liked me and offered me to start working there. I was working casually (they called me when they needed me) and the overall work was not too hard, it was just tougher for me because I'm foreign and my english wasn't the best + it was my first job. The staff was usually nice and sometimes in quiet times we shared fun stories. In my opinion wage was great, I received £9.07 per hour as a 16 year old. I had induction period where they showed me how to work equipment, the toughest part for me was working with money and working with the till.

Enjoyed working with my colleagues and supporting my service users

My manager blew hot and cold and in my experience she did very little to support me in my role as support worker , I worked with Fife council for over 13 years and seen many changes , staff get very little support from management and expected to deliver excellent service even though working long hours often covering staff off sick , would not recommend my friends or family to work at Fife council

None

Cons

Very long hours

Productive and fun

You are kept busy but not rushed and most of the work is done at your own pace. Mixture of work carrying out small repairs and any janitorial duties. Overtime available. Great little number only down fall is the pay.

Fine

Just fine, lots of work to go round and qork with some good people. Some lack of support when you are finding it really stressful though. Not great not bad.

Overworked and under-appreciated

The work is fast paced. Education, now childcare is more like nursing (not what I'm qualified for or what I signed up for) Loopholes in the contract allow for support staff to be used as teachers. Over worked and underpaid. When joined I was given a salary amount £23k. Once term time was factored in I was earning £16k! Staff lovely and hard working. The management, target driven and more set on delivering results from targets than supporting the needs of the individuals/children. Management constantly changing around staff and upsetting children who require consistency.

Pros

Some lovely staff members who are great with the children, hard working, compassionate and understand child development and needs. Some good benefits and discounts locally.

Cons

Overworked, under paid, staff taken advantage of, poor management, little compassion or empathy from management, high turn over, discrimination of mental health issues, unprofessionalism

If you're not a joiner don't work here

Management and supervisor don't care about you as long as the work gets done. Never met my manager. Supervisor you never see it's all left to the chargehands and if your not a joiner they're not interested

The work place was peoples homes ,

Fife council were okay employers, but didn’t listen when you had concerns about a service user, always said they would look into it, also if you had problems with service user or families very slow to do anything about problem ,managers just seemed to be not interested as long as you done your job

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, pushing more work onto you when your rots was full

Good place to work. Not the greatest job security until full time contract.

Easy enough job, easy to pick up and carry out tasks. Co workers were good and pace of work was fine. Job security was fine until 2 years of service when they have to offer you a full time contract. Was promised a contract until Upper management changed in last week of my contract.

Pros

Good work/life balance

Cons

Just a number
