What a mess…

If you have life & family, think about a different place to work as you’ll be dealing with:- long hours (some shifts are 12-13hrs long)- a lot of stress- poor bus maintenance - poor management - shift patterns are horrible and your sleeping pattern will be all over the place so you’ll always feel tired - bus schedules need a lot of improvement The company doesn’t respect you and they put money & business before the people.

Rubbish management company going down hill

New management are rubbish company don't have clue and no work life balance and don't care about employees you have to be in certain clicks to get promotion or move anywhere within company and vehicles are very poorly maintained all have engine light and other fixable problems most heaters don't work at winter time and they expect you to go for ages without toilet breaks as they closed alot down thru lough covid but never reopened the even tho they were ideal for drivers

Progressive and enjoyable place to work

I really enjoyed my time at First Glasgow. I started out as a bus driver and progressed in a reasonable amount time to a management role. If you are willing to learn and progress there is plenty of opportunity to do so. Each job I undertook whilst with the business truly was what you made it from driver, supervisor to manager. I was involved in many interesting projects and roles out with my role where I was fully supported to succeed. I was also provided with comprehensive training over the years to progress professionally and personally.I had 15 great years at First bus and would not hesitate in working with them again.

Pros

Pay, benefits, progression. Development. Holidays. Free travel and discounted train travels

Cons

Some roles can be stressful.

don't bother....seriously

Management are non existent unless they giving you a bollocking. Controllers have no qualms about you running upto 30 min late. No work/home life balance. 30 minute meal break on an 8-10 hrs shift. Company don't care about you, only about filling that drivers seat and having you on the road. Holidays are allocated to you so no chance of having time off when you want it or when kids are off. Morale is always low and staff turnover is high due to the way people are treated. Avoid if you savour your sanity and your joke life.

Pros

colleagues are a good bunch

Cons

everything else

stressful job long hours

not the best to work for your just a bum in a seat working most weekends and late shifts nothing steady shifts change day before or on arrival at depot customer always right most of the management are ex drivers and have forgotten what its like behind the wheel 10 hrs a day

Pros

free travel

Cons

long hours working most weekends and late shifts

Good job but exhausting hours

Great drivers who all go out of their way to help you out, friendly management for the most part and great training. But the hours aren’t great especially if you have a family or other commitments. Lots of abuse from other road users and passengers who are looking for an argument, but also the odd customer who will brighten your day

If you like driving

Long working hours for normal ppl. but it's bearable if you enjoyed driving busNot a very good place to work. Because the support to the drivers are not enough.

Good place to work for a first cat D job

I find this job good, every day is different.you do have some hard day's and you have some good happy days it's just depends on your attitude. If you have any problems out on the road there will always be someone you can call as well which I find really good and at ease when it get difficult out there

Pros

Will get your license

Cons

Work life balance

The Training department were fantastic. Excellent canteen facilities in Aberdeen City centre.

Really enjoyed learning to drive a bus and the training was outstanding. Fantastic training team. Canteen facilities and hot food served, brilliant. First day on the job as a driver, I got to drive the bendy bus from Bridge of Dee to bridge of Don, first time driving a bendy bus. Great experience. The down side was after just passing my test and not used to a lot of driving, I was rotad on to do 11 days in a row of 12 hour shifts with a 3 hour unpaid break each day, so I slept in my car for the 3 hours as so tired each afternoon on break. I got a complaint that was clearly not a complaint about me as it stated the male driver didn't stop to pick me up. I'm female, long hair and a chest, no way could I be described as a male driver! Management didn't review the cctv nor actually look into this complaint to ensure it was the right driver they addressed about the complaint. They just gave the complaint to me. Management were very unprofessional and unsupportive of their drivers and ridiculous rotas so I left and got a job with another company which were a million times better to their drivers.

Pros

Excellent driver training team and canteen facilities serving hot food.

Cons

Customer complaints not validated nor sufficient rest days per week.

Okay

Job itself is brilliant, you meet great people etc bus as a company they only care about customers and profit. They do not care about drivers at all, you are just a number

If you're single this is the place for you.

Not as bad as many make out, I enjoyed my time there until they started tinkering with the shifts and removed the early late cycles which helped with a work life balance in favor of 12 hour shifts with little flexibility, pay is not bad, buses are mostly new. Management don't listen and don't care about your family life.

A job

It's a job eh what more can i say?Paid 13.50 per hr after recent pay rise. Sometimes the driving is ok but split shifts are a killer but it is what it is..

Pros

None

Cons

plenty

Very Stressful

Constantly under pressure to please management, hardly and solo driving and they expect you to know routes without being given the chance to kearn them, constantly giving you 4 routes with different buses in the same day and punish you for kerb clipping in tight corners on large buses and rank you out of 5 before booting you out of their company, if your faace doesn't fit they don't want you, they are bullies

Awful

Awful management No good for a social lifeLong duties but not paid at overtime rate after 8 hoursYour just a number to the company Don’t not work for this company

Not productive and a very favouritism kind of environment.

A place which favours favouritism and where management offer no support, unless you're a buddy of theirs, and offer little to no support. There is no incentive to work for this company, besides a free bus pass, you get 75% travel on most railway firms and bus companies, but nobody seem to stay long enough to pass probation.

Pros

Free bus pass

Cons

Boring job, poor management

The best among coach and bus industries.

I recommend any one who want to drive bus, go and work with First. They are professional, always supporting drivers, they provide good quality uniform and top up every year.

Pros

Respect and support

Cons

Passengers

Drivers lovely but management just don't care and they cause the toxic environment.

Always lots to do, two days are never the same. Managers keep away from staff as if there's a glass wall between them and it's a blame culture. The Director will not associate with staff unless it's management.

Pros

None

Cons

No support and managers never take responsibility.
