It’s alright

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It can be slow paced and relaxed sometime, but it can turn all stressful within a blink. This is the nature of the job and nothing to do with management.Leaving this aside, management seems to be uninterested at the needs of the individual(employees)

Hull Trains - good company to work for

I really enjoyed my time at Hull Trains. I found all staff to be really friendly and approachable, even the executives, which you just do not find in most companies. A real family feel to the office.

On the buses

It's what you make it.Mostly decent people using the bus.Great mix of driver's from all backgrounds.Plenty's of routes to keep boredom away.Fair pay when I was there.

Great management and colleagues, pay not great

Great management and colleagues. Free bus travel for immediate family and shop discounts were good but long hours, poor work life balance, average pay and dealing with the general public ruined the job.

Pros

Great management and colleagues. Free bus travel for immediate family and shop discounts

Cons

Long hours and average pay

No home/work Balance

Variety of shifts. However, doing 4 days of early duties then having a late at the end isn’t good. Management don’t seem to care about this either unfortunately.

Pros

Free Bus Travel

Cons

Not paid enough, no home/work balance

Ok

Bus driving is very boring and the other road users are terrible. A very stress full job for not a lot of money! Work home life balance is non existent.

Great job if you could work part-time or flexible the management are poor and can be demanding work life balance is poor if full time as shifts long and change from day to day

Pros

Cons

Long hour driver is always wrong attitude from management

It pays well thats about it

If you have kids or a family it's no good you'll hardly see them with the hours management don't know how to talk to drivers and the shift turn around times are ridiculous

Not best place to work

Nice people but unsocial hour's, working weekends and public holidays is not the best option. Salary not reflect the responsibility and stress get it. Personally I won't recommend this job.

Bus driver

Not good pay no work life balance Poor management with very little or no support. Typical day was stressful with threats and abuse from customers. Drivers where always in the wrong and this resulted in very high staff turnover

Pros

Stable job

Cons

Pay work life balance management

poor pay for the amount of responsibility/Badly managed

drive a bus and get abused, get a mediocre wage while you're at it, the company is managed very poorly in my opinion, no chance of job progression unless your face fits...constantly short-staffed due to low pay for the job need to be paying at least £15ph

Pros

free bus travel / when they turn up

Cons

Long Hours / 8:30hrs between shifts. no paid travel time

Transpenine express conductor

I’ve worked for Tpe for a while now, the job itself is okay. It can be very stressful at times. Line management could be improved greatly. A lot of pressure from management to sell tickets, and overall lack of support from management and the company

Ok place to work.

Ok place to work. Shifts can be long but are manageable. Supervisory team are very good but very busy all the time. Weymouth is a tourist area and does have its fair share of traffic issues.

Poor rotas, loads of overtime if you want it. No work life balance.

The job is a marmite job you love it or hate it. If you don't mind having no social life the job is great. As long as you turn up when you should and do what you are supposed to do you won't have any problems.

Long days & very little social life

Most days your out 10-12hrs and only get paid for 8/9 of them. It is a good job if you come in and do your job and go home but once your home, you’re very tired and don’t want to do much. I don’t get a lot of hassle from customers but there is folk that do. I wouldn’t really recommend this job for a young family person. Pay isn’t very good for the job you do.

Pros

Colleagues

Cons

Long hours Pay Management not interested

Avoid if you want free time

You do a 5/7 day rota which means you work 7 days without a rest , then two off and back on for 8 shifts without a break The lazy staff get better treat than the hardworkers, the less you do the better the management treat you

Pros

Good wage

Cons

Very very bad work life balance

Mentally and physically exhausting

While working for first you have no targets aside from green road which is easily attainable. The work life balance is non existent, social event are ceased as the likelyhood you are working is very high. Some weeks doing 7 days in a row as part of your rota and then having 4 days off, if you think well 4 days off not that bad think again. Moving from lates to middles to earliest loosing sleep every day then being expected to drive an 11.5 tonne bus loaded with humans and fighting sleep while driving as well as dealing with any problems you have outside of work. If you want long days, no sleep no social life but steady work with minimum targets then go for it, however if you want to see your friends and family, go on holiday when you choose to then don't do it. It's a whirlpool of poor management and lacking empathy. Management not caring about anything except getting you down the road, support non existentent, hours unsociable, pay is lacking at best and equipments aka some buses are unfit for purpose.

Pros

Good driver culture, always able to have a laugh and joke with fellow drivers.

Cons

Long hours, pay does not reflect job, equipment, management, no social life, physically and mentally draining.

Good and nice people, hard work

Very nice people to work with, the board is exceptionaly colaborative, but the rules of the company are strict and rigide, and money poor for the work required.

Pros

Suportive team

Cons

Low wage
