- Ability to meet personal goals
Areas for improvement
- Fair pay for job
- Time and location flexibility
- Sense of belonging
Avoid if you can!
anonymous (Former Employee) - anonymous - 12 September 2023
Never felt a sense of belonging within the company from the moment I started there, hugely unorganised and unhelpful! Good probably for students but if you’re looking for long term i’d look elsewhere. unfortunately, not a place I would recommend unless you enjoy feeling stupid and being spoken down to constantly by the management team and even rest of the team. Also unless you’re a boy or man i’d also say avoid- teams are predominantly headed by them, uncomfortable setting for girls.
Pros
Discount and good pay for age
Cons
Everything else really

Standard retail job
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Birmingham, West Midlands - 11 September 2023
Decent job, wouldn’t recommend if you want long term progression. Not that hard of a job, decent co-workers, discount isn’t that much though and location isn’t bad

Company gone downhill, fast
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - South East London, Greater London - 9 September 2023
When I first started footlocker 8 years ago it was an enjoyable place to work. Competitive sales team made for a great environment, this was mostly due to personal commission earned from sales. However over the last few years the company has completely shifted and made budget cuts that effect all store members. Now 90% of associates are under 18 due to footlocker paying minimum wage, my store lost all our best members when they made this change. Instead of commissions it’s now a monthly bonus dependent on store KPIs and league KPIs. Terrible decision. Easy enough to progress through store roles however always felt like a dead end. No real display of opportunities outside of store level, so if store manager is your dream, go for it! Be careful not to speak against the new changes footlocker implement or you will be blacklisted for promotions. Avoid sticking up for your sales team during management meetings with HR & other bosses as they will also blacklisted you for this. Distract managers we’re always clueless and completely unhelpful, never had an answer to your questions. Lastly the discount has been limited yet again, now new releases can’t be purchased with discount and store members even have to join a league raffle for a chance to purchase, absolutely bonkers. Great company turned terrible in just a few years.
Pros
None
Cons
Minimum wage, more restrictions on discount, poor higher management

They dont care ..
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Birmingham - 14 July 2023
They dont care for their associates, speak to us anyway they want and were supposed to accept it. They only give out hours to their favourites & the district manager is rude and not very approachable.
Pros
The associates
Cons
The managers/district manager

Good job of studying
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Lakeside Shopping Centre, Essex - 25 June 2023
Good job if you’re in your early 20’s and studying, can get tiring at times when you’re expected to work weekends. Otherwise no complains. It’s good for a first job

Over promised and under delivered
Sales Assistant/Manager (Former Employee) - North East - 5 April 2023
The staff and team are fantastic and it's a great group to work in but you are totally under valued by higher ups (store manager and above). You are expected to work as long as required (some days 8am-9pm) and have to repeatedly ask for your time back as they don't offer overtime. The used to have commission which was a great incentive, then changed to a bonus which they took away. Basic pay and not at all acceptable for all the work you're expected to take on. Would only recommend as a job for part time sales who need a weekend job as anything higher is far too stressful (coming from someone with over 16 years in retail)
Pros
Discount is good
Cons
Under appreciated

The most chilled place you’ll ever work at
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Birmingham - 9 March 2023
The best job I’ve ever had literally, you was aloud to add to the store music playlist. So you’d be serving customers, all while listening to bangers haha. On a serious note though, stay faaar away from the Kids Footlocker in the Bullring. Every other store is fine but that was the absolute worst store I’ve ever worked at in my life. I’ve never seen so much unprofessionalism in terms of management. Plus good luck trying to progress in that particular store, even if you’re at the top of the leader board every shift for sales; or you go out of your way for the store and cover shifts. Management do not care whatsoever, you will not feel appreciated. Hence why I decided to leave, that store.
Pros
Great uniform, Store music selection & very flexible in terms of hours
Cons
None really, I loved working for the company; I’d just say stay away from the kids store in bullring

Hard and Stressful
Shift Leader (Current Employee) - Gateshead - 8 March 2023
Stressful retail environment at the best of times. The Christmas period proves the most under appreciated time of the year from both management and the general public.
Pros
Discounts
Cons
Stressful

Ok
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 7 March 2023
Was decent. Good discount. Good staff. To much pressure to hit target to sell. However pay could be alot better not ideal for someone who has a family.

fast paced and sometimes stressful
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Westfield Stratford City, Greater London - 7 February 2023
-Can be very fast paced depending on the time of day or very slow. -Job itself is fairly easy. -Management can be toxic. -Hardest part of the job is dealing with workload when it can get crowded

Rewarding and fun place to work
Store Manager (Former Employee) - Bradford, West Yorkshire - 2 February 2023
Place was what you made it. Depending on your team and your market the work was either gruelling and miserable or enjoyable and fun. Overall a good place to work but pay did not reflect the effort

No encouragement or support
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Westfield white city - 11 January 2023
This is THE worst place i’ve ever worked at. I didn’t receive any training from management, but they got angry when i made a small mistake EVEN THO I DIDNT GET TRAINED?. it is also very cliquey - management seems really snobby and the workers seem enslaved. no one is happy except the managers and shop floor leaders who get happy over controlling sales associates. customers are horrible and there’s is honestly Nothing good about this job. JD sounds better.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
No training or support, minimum wage, bad management

No goals ok for part time.
Sales associate (Former Employee) - Leeds - 9 January 2023
Typical retail job, was fun when first started but got more and more pressure to sell. This is ok for a temporary job but if you're looking to progress it's not your cup of tea.

It’s ok
Visual Merchandiser/ sale associate (Current Employee) - Birmingham - 2 January 2023
Treated as a number, the company literally only care about you getting every possible sale pushing pushing pushing people, gets old real quick, not worth the 30% discount

Great workplace but low pay
Sales Assistant (Part-time) (Former Employee) - Trafford Centre, Greater Manchester - 29 December 2022
The pay is really low for all the work your doing. As big as Footlocker to pay people 16-20 year olds 6.83 p/hr is ridiculous in this economy. Workplace enviroment is fun and bubbly.
Pros
Work Enviroment
Cons
Long hours and low pay

Fun workplace
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Metrocentre - 26 November 2022
Good co workers, have a laugh. can get very busy, some customers talk down to you but managers stick up for you. Upper management wouldn’t let you use tills until you worked there 6 months?

Low wage
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - North West - 9 November 2022
Low wage only making 30-25 pounds a shift if your under 18. Great atmosphere and the staff were lovely all bubbly and a joy to work with. Good if you like shoes but you wouldn’t be able to afford them because of the wage.

Not worth it
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester - 4 November 2022
used to enjoy working here before the pandemic, but after the pandemic, things changed drastically, they removed commission which made the job not worth it. They expected us to work harder without commission. Some management were very nice, some were just plain corrupt.
